    I have a 2013 Golf 2.5 liter with 102,000 miles and a 2014 Touareg V-6 turbo diesel with 124,000 miles. Both bought new. The reason for the 10k oil changes are because the EU mandated them in an effort to use less oil and reduce the production of oil needing recycling. This forced the car makers to come with oils that last 10k miles. Both of my cars have had the oil changed per factory requirements. The Golf uses about half a quart every 6000 miles. The Touareg goes close to 8000 miles for half a quart. There are exceptions to the 10000 mile rule. Lots of short trips, travel on dirty roads, towing, severe cold or hot weather use. You must use VW approved oil and I’d recommend an OEM filter.

    Sounds about right, both the MK8 GTI and Golf R's are amazing road trip cars in my opinion, especially once you turn off all the nannies lol.

    I drive my 24 r only in city to work, I get around 510kms a full tank until about 50kms left in the tank. I drive sport and race the most, and sometimes special mode, I would say fun driving. Very good gas milage imo. I used to have a 2011 sti, terrible gas milage and slow

    I've had the 2023 golf r for almost a year now and I've never gotten it up to 30 mph more like 25. Admittedly I mostly drive it around town and on the autobahn my go to cruise speed is somewhere around 100 mls/h (I live in Germany) all in all it's a pretty speedy car and really nice to drive. Hangs with most basic 911s but it's too small for me, that's why I'm getting a bigger car this Friday. I'm gonna miss the R though

    screw manuals 6months or 5k max intervals. to many companies say 10k and then those motors are screwed down the road.

      I have a 24 Golf R and did my first oil change myself at 3,000 km during the break-in period. I also installed a RacingLine magnetic oil plug and a gas hood strut. I am very cautious about early wear and it's not expensive to do the early maintenance.

    I miss having the ventilated seats, not in the MX-5 but in the Mazda3. It's the one feature I really wish they had, and it's a little surprising that it hasn't been offered at all considering how they position the vehicle.

    Cruising in 6th well over 3K is crazy! Short gearing in the R hurts, but I’m sure the performance is worth it ripping around. I wonder what the DSG would be like in the R on road trips. I’ve got a MK8 GTI, obviously the gearing is different, but the DSG 7th gear has me around 2250 RPMS going 80-85 on the freeway! Overall, these cars are great split personality cars. Very civil and at the flip of switch…hoon!

    I’m really considering a Golf R. How would you rate the infotainment and general reliability?

    • @Gonin60
      @Gonin60  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Infotainment I love and have zero problems with. People love it or hate it. You need to sit in one and use it.
      Reliability it’s been great in first year and 9,000 miles. Can’t really speak to this. With more time I can fill you in.

    • @Gonin60
      @Gonin60  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The drift mode makes this thing pretty fun. The WRX is more stiff and I like the shifter feel more in it than the R. But the power is quite a bit bigger in the R so yeah I would say the T is more fun

    Hey Austin, love your videos buddy- been following since the supra days. Wanted to ask if you'd like to give me some input on trading Integra type S for a new Golf R. I been back and forth with it but curious to know your thoughts. Thank you for all your work and dedication to the enthusiasts' community!
    Kindest regards,
    Lou dog dude

      Lou! I love hearing comments like these. Makes it all worth it. Thank you for being a loyal subscriber. I’m very grateful!
      I haven’t driven a Type S so take it with a grain of salt. Also, let me know your reasons for switching and I’ll reply back again.
      If I had a type S I would keep it over a golf r. Better shifter feel, more power, more luxury, better sound system, better stock exhaust.
      The infotainment on these cars are just so night and day different.
      I believe your Type S will hold value much better than the R. Still the R isn’t bad by any means but the type r and s always demand a premium. I also believe the market is stronger for enthusiasts buying those cars than the r.
      Now some of your reasons may make sense to switch to an R.

      @loudogguitar2813 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Gonin60 Austin,
      You hit some very good points there! I feel the "luxury esque" vibes of the vehicles are on par with eachother. The main reasons I feel the need to potentially switch over to the Golf R (have test driven): Comfortable suspension , Seats, AWD, and sun/moon roof, offers decent manual experience.
      The golf is noticeably softer in ride quality than the integra, seats soft and ventilated- a shame the integra type S seats are not specific and they have a firm bottom/back... although maybe better holding with the Alcantara at least they are heated lol. Integra only FWD and no optional moon/sun roof.
      no rev matching in the Golf however felt it's pretty easy to get down- a few mins into the test drive I was nailing 3-2 down shifts and smooth takeoffs. The integra has the best manual I have driven- honda has always had the lead in this as we know.
      Overall, I feel the integra type S is a phenomenal vehicle that is enjoyable everytime you jump in. The integra has a huge trunk it's a bigger vehicle but with the golf you get the hatch and put the seats down it's fine... type S- It's not perfect- it's definitely got more creature comforts than the Honda civic type R but I think the Golf ticks ALL the boxes! I didn't mind the touch controls in the Golf at all and never once hit the heated steering wheel button. Yea yea the harmon kardon system doesn't hold a candle to the ELS audio in the integra again we both know we don't purchase these vehicles for the audio system...

    • @loudogguitar2813
      @loudogguitar2813 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Gonin60 also quick on the exhaust the integra type S 3-modes are great! Nice comfy quiet, open valve, then pops and burbles. I felt the exhaust sounds pretty good on the Golf R but I only heard it change once you are in the race modes.. are there only 2-modes for exhaust note in the golf R?

    • @Gonin60
      @Gonin60  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@loudogguitar2813 based on what I’m hearing comfort, luxury, and amenities like sun roof it is hard to best. The golf r is very comfortable even in the more aggressive drive modes. Seats are great! I have zero problems on infotainment stuff that everyone complains about.
      That’s a bummer on the Integras seats.
      The exhaust has sport and then the race modes have different levels of aggression but you just don’t hear it. Can be fixed though via aftermarket.
      If you sell cars frequently I wouldn’t jump to a golf r as it will lose value faster than the Integra.

    • @loudogguitar2813
      @loudogguitar2813 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Gonin60 hmm value is definitely something to consider here. I'll definitely be test driving again before coming to a final decision- looking like it's gonna come down to how good of a trade value and overall deal I can get for a new Golf R. If it doesn't work out with the Golf the integra ain't so bad LOL
