    Oh man, my favorite part of leather is color variation. I LOVE how the vamp is slightly different in color than the rest of the boot!

    The leather color change at the toe break doesn't bother me. I like it. I've got lots of formal-ish boots so I need a pair of very casual boots. When I'm not in business casual I tend to spend my life in beat up faded black levis. This waxy pull-up leather is what I'm looking for. I'm just brave enough to do brown with "black" levis. BUT, I need them to make these in 6" (why the heck are they 5"?). BTW - thank you for these videos! VERY HELPFUL!

    Depending on the leather, you can just take a lighter to those loose threads. That’ll also help the stitch stay tighter for longer.
    If an open flame will mark the leather you can buy an inexpensive thread zap that has a heated fine metal tip.

    The heel counter was perfect for my feet, zero irritation there (not common for me). And the matte black option is very versatile for casual and formal wear. It's low maintenance besides occasional conditioning, but easy to brush up, and a shine cloth makes them look great. Used them when I was in a wedding. Great buy!!

    I have the exact pair of boots and I like them alot. They’re the best boot to wear with jeans by far IMO. The only thing I don’t like is that it takes a while to break in the upper back portion near the Achilles heal.

    These actually look like really nice boots. The Ochre Tan Rocco boots look like what Timberlands should be if they actually gave a crap about making real boots. Im definitely keeping these on my list. I like they are 360 welted too.

    I would prefer different soles on them. They are not bad, but I prefer the soles basically be completely flat looking from the side. The heel on these is a little too much. These are not actual work boots that people are going to be using on a construction site or when going out into the woods or something, these are definitely casual boots, so I would say that they do not need that much grip in the heel. Good price for what you are getting and the style is great, I think I would choose a different leather though.

I own the Uptown and today was the first full day of wearing them and I was quite surprised at the lack of brake in and comfort right out of the box. Always enjoy your boot reviews! Did MA mentioned why they decided to switch leathers? From Seidel to Tasmin. For the thicker leather? Also, there seems to be a trend towards switching from cork to foam for the foot bed. Truman has moved in that direction as well. Truman said it was easier to work with, though I wonder if cost was also a factor.

      Yes, synthetic insoles are easier and cheaper to work with, but they do not provide the durability of a leather insole with cork midsole.

      @@Stridewise Interesting. Good to know. I was about to pull the trigger on a pair of Oakstreet limited editions. Oakstreets fit me well and this pair has features that I am looking for...captoe, storm welt, commando sole, speed hooks...only two things are giving me pause. The first is that the boots have un-gusseted tongues. Unless it's a strictly casual boot for social wearing, I prefer the tongues to be at least partially gusseted. And second, it is constructed with Seidel, a leather that I am not familiar with. From the photos and description, the finish, Rowdy Tobacco, looks darn good and suitable for rugged wear. But for this type of wear, I also prefer a thicker leather...something along the lines of my truman's...

      A ton of companies do this. Almost all made-to-order and crowd funded boot companies have a similar model. Essentially, all of the companies are saying “direct to consumer removes all of the markup from distributors, retail sales, etc.”

    • @60zeller
      @60zeller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ian Turnbow yes I have seen it with others, still playing on the “hey it’s on sale” incentive. I guess it works.
      I respect that Thursday Boots does not take this path

    • @ianturnbow7011
      @ianturnbow7011 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      60zeller
      Absolutely. The process is too common. Sadly, a lot of people fall for the marketing ploy. But, the same could be said about spending more money for a name brand boot rather than a higher quality boot for less money (e.g. buying a $700 off the rack service boot instead of a $500 bespoke service boot).

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    would you recommend these for working behind a bar? I'm in the market for a good work boot for bartending, one that can resist syrups and grime as well as have decent traction on slippery floors. Been looking a lot at thursday's captain, but feel like they might be too slippery.

      Check out the Irish Setter Ashby soft toe. The Trout Brook leather is really nice and the wedge sole is very comfortable on hard surfaces like a bar floor. They are a work boot and run about $145 so you wont worry too much if you get them banged up. You can get the custom insoles for them as well and you can stand for hours in comfort. I have the mushroom rough out, let’s just say they are toooo tough😂 10oz leather in the vamp, it’s two layers of 5oz leather but thankfully around the ankle its just one layer, great boots, looks like they grew out of the dirt, it’s for sure a brown color with tiny hints of green. As for the insole you mentioned a few times it does last quite some time and they still have yet to really mold to my feet. But I do have flat feet so I have no arch support in them, do you know of any insoles with really high arches?

      Custom orthotics can be found for under $60. I suggest looking into the King foam Game Changers. There are insoles you can bake in the oven then wear for 20 minutes or other orthotics which break in and fit you foot after a small handful of uses.

      Also, Remind makes insoles with great arch support but they are NOT custom orthotics.
