I always enjoy listening to people who really know a topic. It almost doesn’t matter what the topic is. And two genuine experts together is even better.
I've been loving your collabs with Weston! You guys both have different niche knowledge about leather and boots and you balance each other out really well!
I use Saphir Oiled Leather Cream on my Chromexcel boots (the one in the expensive little glass jar). I'm not sure if it's different from or any better than their greasy leather cream in the plastic bottle, but it's more expensive, so I bought it, lol. I treat it like skin lotion and go panel by panel and rub it until it soaks in. Then I let it sit for an hour or so before brushing. The result is super nice.
Saphir's greasy leather cream all the way for Chromexcel! I used Venetian Shoe Cream on my first pair of Chromexcel boots -- perhaps too often -- and in the end (~2 years,) found it to contain just too much wax for my taste. Too much shine. The solvent smell was also off-putting. I've since used Saphir's cream on my latest pair of the past 3+ years and love it. It's comparatively expensive per fluid ounce, but one bottle will last for years and years. Plus it smells great! Almost edible, like cherries & vanilla!
Always good videos. The collaborations are great! I really like the variety you've put into the channel...seems to be just about quality heritage goods for men. Very good stuff! Keep it up!
I use Black Rock leather treatment for conditioning, and it works well. I also have been using Tarrago shoe cream but don't know which shoe polish would work best. However, I like Tarrago shoe cream, which appears to do the job, and I have been happy with it.
Did you ever find a solution to the deep scuffs that look darker than the rest of the leather after conditioning? I have the same problem with my chromexcel boots, but it's more severe than the ones in the video.
this was such a fun video. have loved your videos for sometime now, and this was a nice surprise. when i saw the post with you and weston i was pretty hyped. cant wait for the trent and heath one too!
I think the dark scuffs on the inside of the heel comes from the outsole of the other boot rubbing against it. My are covered in it and it’s pretty annoying.
Soak your dauber brush in a solvent ( I use Xylene) soon after using shoe polish, then follow up with a paper towel wiping off. Next, wash the dauber with hot water and dish soap. Works with horsehair buffing brushes as well. Brushes stay in like new condition!
I plan on buying a pair of Alden 403’s Should I condition them right away as soon as I get them or should I wear them for a bit? Ive been doing some research on several types of creams like Venetian balm. Your Chanel has been very helpful in learning more about these boots thanks
Great info & cool to see Weston. Stridewise & Nick are the go to channel for boots and other personal gear and for the life of me can’t understand why the channel doesn’t have a bigger following‼️🤔 Hopefully with having other TH-cam creators the channel will grow and viewers can see what great content is coming from Stridewise💼🥾😷👍
Pls guide me that 1) How to make conditioner for leather shoes? 2) how to make soap like saddle soap for cleaning leather shoes? Because there is no available saddle soap in my city. 3) How to remove polish from leather shoe. Thanks
Great Video. I've been wearing my brown CXL boots for a while and they are soft and comfy but the brown cxl is kind of boring. flat color and no real patina. My non-cxl boots seem to age better over time with more character. Wonder what you think about that?
So this question isn't about Chromexcel but it is about leather care products. What's the difference between leather conditioners and leather creams? I kinda thought I knew but now I'm not so sure.
I think the conditioner just keeps the leather conditioned lol but the cream adds a layer of protection while also conditioning but im not entirely sure
Love that you guys did a video together! Quick question: so I do what you guys did with my Thursday Captains (brown) but the boots end up feeling almost “sticky”ish after I apply Venetian Leather Balm...is that different from Venetian Shoe Cream? Did I mess up?
I have Thursday’s in brown and have used Venetian cream and have gotten that sticky feeling also. What I have done is I rarely condition them (mine don’t even need a lot) after a few brushes they r pretty shiny. But if I want a lot of shine I just use one thin coat of hard wax polish for like dress shoes. I’m also meaning to try mink oil as its very thin and conditions the leather but dries off real quick. The main thing I found is to let whatever polish/condition to really dry, then brush. Sometimes takes days for me.
Great vid as always. Can I use the same technique on Thursday Chrome? Also, it would be great if you could make a video comparison between Venetian leather balm and Venetian Leather cream. Thanks for the great content.
Great stuff! I have heard, and I used to polish my new shoes as soon as I got them home. To add an extra layer of protection, or whatever. However, I just ordered a pair of the Thursday Vanguard Indigo boots, with that gorgeous exclusive Horween Chromexcel Indgo leather. I love that black/blue color. Do you think I should polish them when they arrive? Or should I just wear them?
What about Full grain leather? Is there a different cleaning process and conditioner to use for that? I have a pair of black Oxford Bennet's and have had trouble finding cleaning and conditioning advice that I'm comfortable using.
Looks great. Is there a way to clean and condition the chromexcel leather so that it’s not as shiny after the fact? I prefer a more matte, casual finish to the leather.
I used Saddle Soap on some stubborn stains but it ended up penetrating too deeply and took alot of the darker brown color out of the shoe. Is there anyway to get that color back?
I have No.8 Chromexcel sneaker and find them to be a little too dark. I would really like to get brighten them up and get some luster. Can someone tell me if and how that is possible? Thanks!
I have this fluffy furry thing with a handle on each end I use that blends scratches really well on even my thorogood 4364's, but I have no clue what it's called nor can I find it. My dad gave it to me out of his bootcare kit from his ARMY days, it's about 40 years old at this point and the furry fibers are starting to come off. I use it every single day and I'd like to replace it but I just cannot identify the thing . I have no clue if it was issued to him or if he bought it at the PX
@@CorazonDeCristoCano Turns out it's a Bolero lambs wool shoe buffer, found one NOS on Ebay and scooped it up ASAP. it's like a lambswool buffing pad but it's about 16" long with a handle on each end, you use it back and forth like a buffing rag. I'm guessing it was a unique product to Bolero.
Great video and well timed as I just bought a couple of pairs of Chromexcel Dr Martens for Christmas. I'm struggling to find Venetian shoe cream in the UK though. Anyone got suggestions?
Glad it was helpful Ashley! I'm not sure what conditioners are available in the UK. I think Saphir shouldn't be too hard to find, you can also use Otter Wax Boot Oil, Smith's Leather Balm, Armstrong's All Natural, Bick 4, the list goes on. Maybe cal a local cobbler?
Yes. I have hiking boots in crazy horse, which like ChromExel is an oiled and waxed leather. Personally I use Saphir Creme for Oiled Leather to condition. I finish with a dubbin to protect.
I’d be inclined to use a protector in addition to the conditioner. I suspect Saphir’s Grease would be a good option for ChromExel. You could also use a shoe cream to cover the scuffs more effectively before the protector. Saphir do a handy colour chart that has holes punched through the swatches so you can more closely choose the correct product for your leather.
Yes a protector is an optional third step. This video was already too long, but a polish an be a good step for extra weatherproofing. Silicon sprays etc I'm not such a fan of, but that's just me.
I bought a pair of Chromexel boots off eBay recently. The previous owner said he gave them a coating of Mink Oil before sending them off. Mink Oil - really??!! I hope the mink oil didn’t screw the leather off! Using mink oil on Chromexel is like putting A-1 Steak Sauce on Filet mignon!

Imagine my surprise when I click on a Stridewise vid and see another familiar face, Weston. 😯 2021 is full of surprises.

Nice to see two great channels collaborating instead of blindly competing! Love to see more!

So much love, so much romance!

Great Collaboration two of the best boot reviewers out there, along with C J Cook and Carl Murawaski
Great to see 2 of my favorite channels together!!

I’m very happy with the content from this channel and have made several purchases based on reviews and information garnered from this channel.

Great collab! Two of my favorite TH-camrs! Thanks guys!
Otterwax boot oil worked extremely well on my Higgins mill cxl. Tried it on a small part and it looked awesome
Good to know! A ton of products work perfectly well on CXL, we could have used any of them but decided to go with the classic VSC.
@@Stridewise what about the Horween Cavalier? Saphir or Venetian for conditioning only as its mill dyed.
Try applying petroleum jelly after cleaning the leather with a brush. Works wonders.
