THIS IS IT! I played this once in an Aladdin's Castle over 20 years ago, but never forgot it, and I've been looking for this damn thing since forever! I finally found you, my elusive memory!
Such a classic. I feel like a kid again. Waking up to my favorite Saturday morning cartoon show with a large bowl a cereal and a half eaten pop tart, just because.
Hot damn! What a hidden gem. The animations are so good and smooth, and the combat is so blunt and lacking in the fancy department (Repeteadly kicking enemies on the ground, punching them on the belly) that it reaches out as hilarious. Also, mandatory *Altered Beast Sequel joke here.*
I think part of the problem is today's technology. Back then, when the technology was limited, video game companies would work harder on their games to make up for the fact that the technology wasn't there to do what they really wanted to do with their games. Now that we have it, I guess developers' attitudes to making video games now is "Whatever."
Oh my gosh! I've been trying to find this game for 20+ years! I played it only once on a train station of a city far from my home. I didn't know the name of it and only recently I thought to try "arcade beat em ups" search on youtube and there it is! Oh. memories :)
Maybe is the cartoony graphics engine they used, but this game always felt like it was attached to a Saturday Morning cartoon that never existed, you can feel it in your bones, like there is this massive franchise that never came but we only got a peek from this game.
Yes! Very much like it. Although I would say more of a combination of 'Final Fight' or 'Streets of rage' (rather than 'Golden Axe') with 'Altered Beast'.
To think how many awesome arcade beat em ups there are that I've never been aware of years ago that I'm only now becoming of aware of. and this is one of them.
Finally after so many years I figured out which game i played in an Hungarian arcade (in Kunfehértó). I was around 12 years old at that time 🙂. This is totally awesome! Thanks for uploading!
The comic book store I used to go to used to have this in their little mini arcade section. I used to play this a lot with my friends. Brings back a lot of memories just watching this video. It was an awesome store, and wish it had never closed down. Also, this is the Konami I choose to remember.
Konami died to me when they changed their classic logo with the red and orange ribbons that formed a plus sign to that more generic red-and-white and white-and-red logo.
I would have loved this game back in the day. Strange thing I noticed, konami recycled a bunch of attack animations from from it's Xmen beat em up. Probably the same engine and hardware to boot.
This game should be recognised as one of the best beat em up classics. It offers something fun and different. The characters are cool, the music is tense and fitting, the boss battles are fun. The levels themselves can be a bit repetitive though. You can see this game was designed to absorb tons of coins at the arcades. A game to play with your mates as you argue over who gets to be the panther. Vendetta, Streets of Rage, Final Fight and Captain Commando probably rate above this one. Not many more.
I played this game for the first time yesterday night at the arcade. Wow, I was incredibly impressed. Reminded me of the 2 screen X-Men game and Altered Beast. It's loud there so I didn't hear any of the awesome soundtrack. Seriously, how did I miss this game when I was younger? I don't think any of the arcades had it.
Jeez, I been searching far and wide for this game. I remember playing it a long ass time ago at a bowling alley with an old friend at his birthday party in the early/mid 90s and I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was called.
Hmm, he's playing the European version since that version lacks the boss rush on Stage 5 like the Japanese version as it seems to be an American exclusive. As tough as the boss rush was, it did have some awesome music to go with it. Also this game is awesome!
It's funny they are referred to as "brave youths" when they are not kids or teens or at least don't look like kids / teens. And the mess up with her face during the "awaken my brave warriors!" scene is disturbing and a bit funny at tbe ame time.
@@edssonantoniodelgadoquenta9970 ah que super, felicidades, yo lo jigaba en las maquinitas con fichas jaja todo el dia lo jugaba los domingos pasando la final muchas veces..🇧🇴
It's possible that this IP was something Konami wanted to continue in a way. A goal among others when the acquired Hudsonsoft who held the publishing rights to Bloody Roar. Did Konami swallow Hudsonsoft to perhaps continue this series with a similar IP, or simply swallow the other publisher to silence their fighting game IP, so Konami's Beat em up IP could reign un challenged? An interesting theory of possibility and conspiracy. The one thing that could be said for sure is that many refuse to buy Konami unless they see Bloody Roar see the light of day yet again.
This looks like a mod of the X-men arcade game. The enemies move/fall/attack just like the enemies from X-men, even the special attack is Nightcrawlers.
This is probably one of the most underrated arcade gems. Absolutely kick ass side scrolling at its best. Thanks to Mame wouldn't of had the pleasure. Oh the soundtrack is amazing as well.
"YOU WILL NOT COME IN THIS CIRCLE!!!!" *proceeds to come in the circle, kick that goats ass and then taunt him,* LMAO, funny and awesome both. Never saw this game but damn it looks amazing! I LOVE watching the wolfman stomp bosses out, LOL.
+geardog24 ooooh thats pretty much alot of companies or developers because I've never seen anyone do an indie side scrolling brawler or with fantasy like Metamorphic Force, Bucky O'Hare, Battletoads, Magic Sword, Golden Axe. But its gotta be difficult to make a new one and appeal to people especially modern day people at least streets of rage holds up and i can make people weep at their destroyed cars in final fight :P.
I wonder why there is nobody mentioning the connection between this game and GuitarFreaks & Drummania series(GFDM)... The composer of this game is Mutsuhiko Izumi, later he become the producer of GFDM. Stage 5 Boss Music "Demoness of the Colosseum" later become the Boss Stage "Model DD7" in GFDM, and Final Boss Music "Bird of Fire" later become the Boss Stage "Model DD6" in GFDM
I remember when I was a kid my mother would let me go to the arcade every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with my friends to play this game for like two hours and I would would stay in the arcade two hours past my given time to be at the arcade.
The game mechanics are similar to those of Konami's earlier arcade hit, X-Men, and runs on the same hardware as their ninja-themed game, Mystic Warriors.
+SmashTom Izumi, the person who composed the music for both the first and second TMNT games for arcades, composed the music for this game alongside another person.
This is literally just a reskin of the X Men arcade cabinate. The special move of wolf boy is pretty much the exact same as Nightcrawler's. Kicking people when they're down. Bosses flashing to show health eventually glowing. A lot of the jerky one-frame hit animations.
I never seen or played this game before but it gives me X-Men the arcade vibes and this white wolf guy does the same teleport as Nightcrawler but this is a few games in 1 like Alteredbeast Golden Axe Street Fighter and Tmnt - 👍.
THIS IS IT! I played this once in an Aladdin's Castle over 20 years ago, but never forgot it, and I've been looking for this damn thing since forever! I finally found you, my elusive memory!
My story exactly :) More than 20 years of searching are now over.
Such a classic.
I feel like a kid again. Waking up to my favorite Saturday morning cartoon show with a large bowl a cereal and a half eaten pop tart, just because.
Good old Days, not to mention the Good old Beat Em Up Arcades from Konami, Capcom and Sega.
It's a shame that the forgotten games like these and the other rest didn't get the fame and recognition that it needed.
It only came out in arcade thats what set it back
A real gem. Everybody praises the X-Men arcade, but this is just as good. Excellent animation, great moves and music.
Hot damn! What a hidden gem. The animations are so good and smooth, and the combat is so blunt and lacking in the fancy department (Repeteadly kicking enemies on the ground, punching them on the belly) that it reaches out as hilarious.

Such incredible animation and art direction. Crisps details and killer music....
Wow!! This was reslly Konami Arcade Classics at its finest!
A hidden gem of old beat'em-ups. A creative game of this kind, what is a rare thing.
I won't let ANYONE step in THIS AREA! That first boss is totally ridiculous.
*REMEMBER WHEN KONAMI WAS ACTUALLY GOOD ???*
sadly yes😢
DONT FORGET CAPCOM
I think part of the problem is today's technology. Loader2K1 you are right since they got technology they also lost passion , the way they make video games ;/
THEN: THANKS KONAMI
NOW: FUCKONAMI
I agree when one person said "This is what Altered Beast SHOULD have been."

original game or remake?
geardog24 Either.
Amen
Feels more like Werewolf: The Apocalypse
"Who are you to wake ME?!"

This looks like Golden Axe + Altered Beast + weirdness
And drawn by furries because holy shit! Those guys are intensely sexy with their ripped bodies and... damn it!
It really is! Haha
Yes! Very much like it. Although I would say more of a combination of 'Final Fight' or 'Streets of rage' (rather than 'Golden Axe') with 'Altered Beast'.
And evolved into Bloody Roar!
This feels like an inferior (but still definitely good) cross of X-Men arcade and Turtles in Time to me.
To think how many awesome arcade beat em ups there are that I've never been aware of years ago that I'm only now becoming of aware of. and this is one of them.

+yusakug I agree--before they decided to pull that recent bullcrap!
Konami died to me when they changed their classic logo with the red and orange ribbons that formed a plus sign to that more generic red-and-white and white-and-red logo.
The "ribbons" are actually "waves". Konami is the Jaoanese word for "wave", so they made that part of their classic logo!
Claude's wolfie boots are ridiculously adorable.
22:21 You don't even let the boss gets 2 words out before curbstomping her

One thing that made the Konami beat em ups cool is that you could beat down fallen enemies.
Merry christmas Word Of Longplays.

This is probably the best furry beat 'em up aside from the Bloody roar series by Hudson.
It's definitely an improvement on Altered Beast, probably about as much as Arkanoid improved on Breakout.
CarozQH bloody Roar is the balls ❤️❤️👌
This is what a sequel to Altered Beast should've been like. Looks like a cross between Altered Beast and X-Men.
+Frank Bautista Yep, best way to describe it.
Frank Bautista
And the Ripping Friends.
No
Great animation
These kinds of games never get old
Soma noma I couldn’t have said it better 👍👍
Totally laffo'd at 8:32 "WHO ARE YOU TO WAKE ME-KRAAWWWK!" ~beatdown intensifies~
Putting the boots to him!
"This game makes Altered Beast looked so tamed."
That transition in the middle of Stage 4 is so fucking awesome.
Needs to be downloadable for the PSN

Talk about a buried treasure from Konami's history!

Como no suspirar al recordar este jueguito, es una parte de mi niñez, hermosos recuerdos, gracias..😉

I played this a lot when I was younger. I don't remember the soundtrack being this METAL.
Poor succubus, she hasn't even finished her opening line 😂
It's metamorphin' time.
One of the best beat'em up furry games aside from Bloody Roar. Good old memories 😊👍🐺
The way you fight the cyclops bros ^-^ so satisfying
This game is so 90s.
Konami actually gave a fuck during the late '80s and early-to-mid-'90s.
Loader2K1 And now the newest release of Casltevaina is a god damn slot machine...
Neo james82 SMGDH. I'm starting to think that the video game industry is intentionally trying to destroy itself.
Loader2K1 That's how I see it as well...real shame :(

this looks a lot like the X-Men beat em up game from the arcades.
Good, I wasn't the only one thinking that
Tets' Toys that's because Konami made them both just like how they made ninja turtles at the time.
Same engine

Happy X-mas and bests longs

same company that made the x-men arade game made this one so they probably reused elements.
And Altered beast because main character can transform into animals
The Japanese version is a lot easier, as it has a health bar instead of the Gauntlet-like health system.
A classic hidden gem in my book.
In the US version your health constantly ticks down even when you are not hit
Ever Played "Gauntlet"?
@@DocWolph I never played Gauntlet but I've seen it. It was a famous game.
Underrated,similar to Violent Storm

konami used to stay robbing people with the countdown health

fantastic animation and music, but damn, looks like it needs a harder mode. TMNT4 had the exact same strengths and problem.
