This game was ahead of its time. I wasted many a quarter on this game in the late 80's, I'd never see nit played all the way through until now. Thanks for this video!
The backgrounds and lighting effects are magnificent in this game--to say nothing, of course, of the fact that is has one of the all-time best scores for any classic coin-op. Great gameplay by this player, too.
Did other people's Rastan arcade have a subwoofer in it? One of the reasons this game was an old favorite of mine was the great music that came out of an especially powerful sound system that most arcade cabinets didn't have.
A lot of arcade cabinets back in the day were sold separately to the ROM boards. The arcade owners would buy the cabinet and then just swap the ROM boards out as they needed/when the games got old. This meant that the demand for arcade cabinets slightly outweighed the supply and it led to a lot of domestic suppliers creating custom cabinets for arcade owners on demand. After all, technology was a bit simpler back then and most qualified electricians/computer techs with the right parts could do it. It's entirely likely that your Rastan machine was one of these custom jobs with an extra subwoofer.
I remember the Flame sword making a satisfying THOOM THOOM sound when you swung it and shot the fireballs.. it had a distinct bassy tone, I wonder if it was one of these custom jobs?
That's something I remember from arcades back then. Certain games had really great sound from their respective cabinets. This and Gorf are two arcade games that I remember always having great depth of sound and they were always cranked up!

11:22 the leap of faith! This was one of the greatest arcade games. Very challenging but not too hard after you spent lots of time memorizing each level. The most difficult aspect of the game was the platforming. After several play thru attempts you eventually memorize the jump timing and you can get thru the game fairly easily.
