13:48 Thank you so much! It was especially helpful to me when you pointed out that my increase should always be in the second and then the first double crochet of the “V’s”, and then I’ll know I’m still on the right track. That prevented a lot of errors as I learned. 😊😊😊
I’m so glad that helped! I know chevron patterns can be tricky, so I really wanted to point this out, so others can see exactly where to put their stitches 🧶
Thanks for this tutorial. It took me several tries to get it right, but I finally did. After completing 20 rows I can now identify if I've made a mistake each time I start a peak or valley. This keeps me from tearing out an entire row by addressing the issue sooner.
Your instructions and calming voice are very easy to follow. Just made my first ripple baby blanket in pink, linen, pink/brown variegated, off white, and green gremlin. It reminds me of succulents. Now I just need to find someone to give it to! Thanks !
😊😊😊thank you so much for your time. I'm hoping to get my blanket done before my daughter has her baby . Your instructions are the best iv found and I enjoy listening to ur voice as its very calming . 😊
I bought this pattern in your Etsy shop. Working with the pattern & tutorial I was able to recognize certain stitches to fix problems earlier & earlier. It is by far the easiest pattern I’ve tried for a Chevron afghan. The other patterns went into a box. Thank you for the easy to understand pattern and the tutorial to go along!!
I am so happy to hear that this chevron pattern was easy for you to understand. I tried to go slow and make it easy to follow along as I know chevrons can be tricky. I just made another chevron blanket (Fall Throw Blanket) that I think you will enjoy as well. That's an even easier ripple blanket! Enjoy and thanks for your support :) :)
Just finished this as my first blanket project! (Typically I do amigurumi) I’ve attempted blankets before but never finished them. I got this one finished in about 3 weeks and made it a 40x40ish square. I did 7 thicker sections with 6 rows and did a thinner section between each thick sections with 3 rows. And added 13 chains in the beginning. It’s lovely and I can’t wait to gift it at a baby shower in February with a matching amigurumi dinosaur!
I have started this pattern in a mauve. I am doing 99 chain. I have done the 1st Row and now ready to start the 2nd Row. Thank You so much for Your Tutorial. I really appreciate it. ❤❤❤
I just bought 4 skeins of that exact yarn!! ILTY glacier!!! I had no idea what I’m going to do with it, and then I stumbled on your video! I’ll be going to get the gray mist and white and do this pattern! Thank you so so much for this inspiration!!!! 🩵🤍🩶
I started this afghan tonight with Premier Puzzle in Tangram with a size K hook, and increased the size just a little. So far I am loving it. Super easy and think it will whip up quickly. I am planning to donate to Project Linus via Creative Grandma's channel.
Thank you so much for this I really love the colours you have chosen for your blanket (glacier, white and grey mist) they look amazing together. I am going to make so many of these blankets in my favourite colours, thank you again 🥰🙂🙂
Thanks so much for this tutorial. Your descriptions and Instructions are simple to follow which is great for a beginner like me! I now have a completed baby blanket in blue, cream and grey and it’s perfect!!!! I’m so proud of it and my new baby grandson is due in March 2022!! Ty again xxx
You're very welcome! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy my tutorials and that my instructions are clear for beginners. Congrats on your new grandson!!
Thank you for your tutorial, I love this pattern. I've started a blanket using, 3 different shades of yellow and a white. I'm really pleased with how it's looking 👌
Great tutorial! I completed several ombre scarves which look great with the wave-y pattern, and just finished a multicolor striped pastel baby blanket.
Very beautiful blanket. Love your pattern, the ones i was originally going to do had holes in the 'valleys' so I'm glad to find your pattern which will make the transitions look clean and seamless.
Thank you so much for pattern …have to share I ripped out and started over 4 times Kept skipping and/or adding stitches in “wrong” places…. 4 th go around I used those little stitch markers …made a huge difference,…found errors right away… love this pattern Special blanket for our first great grand son…..thanks again
You’re very welcome! Having stitch markers definitely helps as the chevron stitch can be a little tricky for beginner crocheters. Like you said, stitch markers helps you find mistakes quickly. Glad you enjoyed making this blanket for your first grandchild 😊
I really appreciate you for taking the time to reply to all the comments! I love your tutorial btw! ❤️ I’m starting this today and hoping I can make it (in a slightly bigger size) for my mom when it’s her bday in September 😊🤓Summer is the perfect time to start crocheting to prepare for winter haha
Aw thank you so much! I think it’s important to try and respond to everyone I can. Your mom will love the blanket you’re making for her! And I agree, you have to start your winter projects early, especially if you’re making a lot of different items for gift giving 😊
Very good tutorial. This is the first time I'm doing a ripple. I do Irish knitting and crochet but this simple pattern was stumping me on the decreases. You made it easy to understand. I'm using brick red and gold and making a Winnie the Pooh color car seat cover.
Thank you so much for this easy to follow video. Your blanket looks beautiful. I plan on making a blanket using the colors gray, cream, and blue for my baby boy due in August.
I have frogged my yarn for similar patterns three times, but seeing your tutorial made it all clear! Thank you! I’m making a blanket for my new great nephew.
My advice. I used markers at every 12 stitches. I used the same color markers. On the last section, I use a different color marker. So I know where I am when I am working along. I also used a different color for the marker on the last plus 3. So i where to start the rows. I know it seems like alot to do. But it doesn't take long. And if there is a mis-count, I can count the sections. Instead of hundreds of stitches.
@@AmandaCrochets I am doing crochet a few years. I have marked my stitches after I kept loosing stitches. But with this pattern the count is so important! I do the same for my corner to corner too. I'm glad this tip will help others.
This is so beautiful. I am making this blanket. It’s my first blanket. All cream. After many rows I went back and watch the tutorial again and I hadn’t been putting the two double crochets at the end of the row so my was wavy so I removed some rows. Is that why it was wider and wavy ? I’m an advanced beginner.
Thank you! Yes, chevrons can be tricky at first. It’s super important to make sure your stitches are in the proper places, otherwise your blanket will come out wavy. It’s possible you were adding extra stitches or maybe your tension was lose in some spots and tighter in others. This will even out over time. Keep at it! 😊
To finish the blanket, you will weave in your ends with a tapestry needle. I usually go back and forth a few times to really secure it. Then I cut off the the yarn and you’re good to go.
I’ve been watching your videos for awhile now not realizing I was not subscribed, so I’m now a new subbie, your explanation is so clear, I’ve tried this chevron/ripple and always missed a stitch, now I got it and I’m doing a blanket in shades of brown, can’t wait to finish this one.
hi Amanda! Thank you for a very easy tutorial!! I just finished my blanket, but want to square it off for a border, do you have a tutorial for how to do that? The will be my go to pattern for all my baby blankets!
Hello! I'm so glad you enjoyed this pattern. It's one of my favs and go-to patterns as well. Yes I do have a tutorial for that. You can check out that video here: th-cam.com/video/grJLV6xueg8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3gMuU8u8LcjAO0ab
Hi Amanda I am re learning how to crochet. I love your videos. I am wondering how many repeats of the pattern did you get to the end of the row? So that I can understand the pattern better as I am trying to write the pattern out to help me understand the process better. Thank you for your help. Joanne Bachynski
I love your stuff, thanks girl!! I didn't answer, I love your color picks, but pink is my favorite I greatly appreciate your recommendations on yarn, the rose is pretty. I will get those now, thanks and take care!!
Thank you Amanda for this tutorial. I hope I finally get this pattern right, I've tried it a couple of times before but it didn't work out. Will let you know how it turns out
Such a great tutorial! I’ve finished crocheting my baby blanket (which is my first finished project!). What do you do with the little strands of yarn left on the sides after adding in a new color? I hope this question makes sense. This is all I have left to finish off my project
Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed this tutorial! Congrats on finishing your first project! For the yarn ends, you will want to weave in your ends. I have a tutorial for that here: th-cam.com/video/494pqpOgMt8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z6X_qxHtxXjZQMbp
OMG! I am feeling extremely frustrated ATM! I successfully completed a small throw using this pattern. It turned out BEAUTIFULLY!!! Now decided to make a baby blanket but this time using the back loop for the textured ridges effect. I have encountered some problems in the 15th row. I end up with only 2 stitches at the end of the row. I redid the row 4 times, still ending up with 2 stitches. I redid the 14th and 13th rows without any problems, but the 15th row STILL ended up with just 2 stitches!! Ironically, the 14th and 15th rows stitches aligned together well. The yarn is SO stretched out that I wonder if it is possible to continue. Please help me with this issue! If you have any tips or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you for your time and help!😊
I highly suggest using stitch markers in the very first and very last stitches of each row. That will help keep things straight. I also recommend counting your stitches after each row. You should have 3 stitches in between your peaks and valleys. It seems like you miscounted before your 13-14th rows. Hope that helps!
I really like this pattern but not a fan of the ch3 method , i prefer the alt turning chain to avoid gaps. So instead of ch3, I just do the alt in that first stitch and the 1st DC, so it still works and gives me my no gap edge!
Hi!!! I love your tutorial... working on a blanket now. But i have a question. After you've done the first row... can you not just do double crochet in every sritch after that? Just curious 🤔 👀
I have finished the first six rows and notice the blanket so far does not lay quite flat. It has a slight ripple. Do you think this could be from the starting chain stitches being somewhat tighter than the following rows? Or something else? This is such a good tutorial - thank you!
Yes, it’s possible that your tension is a little tighter. For the starting chain, you can always go up a hook size to make it a little more loose. Hopefully that does the trick 😉
Amanda, I love your tutorials , but have a wish. When I watch all the tutorials on chevron or ripple , i would love for some one to mention how much space the chevrons take. If I measure my chain , I definitely can’t say that’s how wide my blanket will be. Hopefully you understand my meager explanation.
I understand what you’re saying. When making chevrons, your initial chain will look a little smaller as you have to remember the peaks and valleys of the chevron stitch. It’s best to make a chain a little longer than normal to get the width you like. For this particular blanket, each chevron measured from one peak to the next is 4 inches wide. Hope that helps!
Does ut make a difference on the turns if you chain 3 and turn OR turn and then chain 3? I fo bd it hard to see where my last stitch of the row is supposed to be and sometimes end up doing it I the chain 🙁
I don’t think it matters. I’ve seen it done both ways. I like to chain before I turn my work. You can put stitch markers in the very first and very last stitch of each row to help keep your ends straight and know where to insert your hook.
I have finished a blanket and absolutely love it!! But how do I close the ends where I have changed colors? First blanket I do and I don’t know enough to find the solution on my own :).
When you change colors, you want to weave in the ends. To do so, you will get a tapestry needle and go in between the stitches of the same color (white yarn with white, blue with blue, etc.). That way your yarn end doesn't show in your finished item. I usually go back and forth a few times to really secure the ends. I hope that helps!
You’re welcome! I actually have a video showing you how to make the shell stitch as well as a few shell patterns on my channel. You should check it out!
I’m sure this would look beautiful in Caron Simply Soft yarn! You may need 1 additional skein of the two colors to complete this and 1 skein of the white.
Thank you so much, it looks like a great pattern! I’m only on row 4 or so right now, but I have a pretty important question: if we’re increasing each row, won’t it be shaped like a cone in the end? At first, I only had 4 stitches from end to the first 2x dc into one st, but on row 4 I’ve got 8 stitches between the end and the first 2xdc. Help!
It seems like you’re increasing too many stitches. For each row you will be working the two decrease stitches on top of the decreases from the previous row. The same thing with the increases. They should stack on top of one another. You should only have 3 stitches in between your increases and decreases.
I’m glad you loved this pattern! I’m pretty simple when it comes to borders. I usually just make a single crochet border around my projects. I also like the picot border. I have several patterns showing both of these 😊🧶
I love this pattern and very easy to understand...thank you very much... am going to make one with a much thinner yarn will I need to increase the 3 double crochet in each stitch to maybe 6 or 9 before the increase and decrease...or should I just follow yours with 3.
That sounds great! The pattern repeat is 12+3. This means you will multiple any number by 12 to get your width. Once satisfied, you will add 3 chains to the very end to keep things in balance. As long as you follow this, you can use any weight yarn you'd like!
I ended with the 2 decreases on row 1 instead of the 3 double crochet. For the last chain should I still increase? I'm using light 3 yarn and chained 123
It looks like you might have missed a stitch or two along the way. I would start over to make sure you get the count correct. Otherwise your blanket will be out of balance.
Thank You, I've attempted to crochet the blanket following your instructions and it jept turning too big, do i need to make increases in the beginning and the end of each row or did i miss when to stoo increasing, i am so frustrated, please advise. Tgank You in advance
For the beginning of each row you will have a chain 3 and 1 double crochet. For the end, you will have 2 double crochets. It seems like you might be adding too many stitches. Hope that helps!
So I'm using a 4mm hook with Bernat softee baby yarn, what would you suggest I do to make the dimensions the same. I'm a beginner and not sure how this math works
You may need to double the amount of chains to get the same width as my blanket. You can always try it out by making a multiple of 12 (12 times any number) and add 3 chains to the very end. Hope that helps!
I'm glad you love this pattern! I did not make a border for this blanket. However, I do show you how to make an even border in this video if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/grJLV6xueg8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I’m going to have a go🤞🏻 can I ask, if I want to make the foundation chain longer, how can I do this? Because of all of the different stitches and skip a few etc, how would I carry it on? I’m autistic so feel free to explain it like I’m a child🙈😂
You’re welcome! So to change the sizing of the chain, you need to work in multiples of 12, so 12,24,36, etc. Once you have the length you want, add 3 chains to the very end to keep everything in balance. Hope that helps!
How wide is the one with a ch of 90 and how wide is it with 135 that you used on the twoyou did for the demo? I am learning and am so grateful for you taking the time to help us. Thank you. 💕
Hi! I’m following this to make a neutral coloured blanked for my friends baby due at the end of November. I was wondering how you ‘weave in’ the end strands from each row when beginning a new colour? I’ve left a decent length for weaving in but not quite sure on how to do so. Hope you can help! Thanks!
Hello! To weave in your ends, you will take your tapestry needle and work in between the stitches. I usually go back and forth a few times to make sure it’s secure and hidden. Then you will snip off the excess. Hope that helps! 🧶🧶
hi i love this blanket and it's been fun to make! i'm having issues with it looking less wavy towards the top rows. have you experienced this and know what is the issue? i've gone back and made sure i followed the pattern, but not all rows end with the same [1dc in each 3 st].
Hello! I'm sorry to hear about your blanket becoming wavy. I haven't experienced this, but the only thing I can think of is that maybe your tension is a little more loose than it was at the start of your blanket. If it's really noticeable (or bothering you), you can always try going down a hook size to keep your tension the same. If it doesn't bother you, I would keep it as is as maybe washing it will help with the waviness. Hope that helps!
Thank you. It's a great explanation. It would be much easier to watch if the picture was in focus all the time. I found myself straining to figure out what stitch you were going into when the picture was out of focus. Just some constructive feedback :)
Glad it was helpful! My camera doesn't always like to focus for whatever reason, which can be annoying at times. I may have to switch cameras. Thanks for the feedback!
If you want to change up the sizing of this blanket, you will need to work in multiples of 12+3. So 12 times any number and add 3 more chains to the very end.
Yes, you will need 2dc at the beginning (1dc and chain 3 in the same stitch) and 2dc (in the same stitch) at the very end. This is how your work will stay in balance.
Why did the glacier have less chains. Is it thicker? I used the, I Love This Yarn, navy, dk country blue, & white. Was yours supposed to use a J hook. I did mine in the beginning with a J then switched to I, my favorite hook.
I used a J hook for the entire pattern and I Love This Yarn. It’s all the same thickness. I’m not sure what you mean by less chains. Each row will be the same amount of stitches.
@@6996katmom I understand now. I made the one with Red Heart Soft a little bigger because I had more yarn I wanted to use up. Otherwise both Red Heart Soft and I Love This Yarn are the same weight.
At the end of every row should I end with 3 dc in the 3 stitches and then the 2 dc in the last stitch of each row and then turn? If I don't have that I have screwed something up?
At the end of each row, you will have 4 stitches left (after your decrease stitch). You will work 1dc in each of the 3 stitches and work 2dcs in the final stitch. Then you will chain 3 (counts as a dc) and will make 1dc in the very first stitch of the row. Hope that helps!
13:48 Thank you so much! It was especially helpful to me when you pointed out that my increase should always be in the second and then the first double crochet of the “V’s”, and then I’ll know I’m still on the right track. That prevented a lot of errors as I learned. 😊😊😊

I’m so glad to hear 😊🧶
Very cute! I’d like 👍🏼 to make it for the back of my couch. I’m thinking burgundy and white and gray
That sounds pretty!!
I did those exact colors! It looks very nice together!
@@thegrove29 Awesome!
can I make throw blanket instead of baby blanket?
Yes, of course!
Hi Amanda I am re learning how to crochet. I love your videos. I am wondering how many repeats of the pattern did you get to the end of the row? So that I can understand the pattern better as I am trying to write the pattern out to help me understand the process better. Thank you for your help. Joanne Bachynski
Hi Joanne, for my blanket I did 12x8=96 and added 3 more chains for a total of 99.
I love your stuff, thanks girl!!
I didn't answer, I love your color picks, but pink is my favorite
I greatly appreciate your recommendations on yarn, the rose is pretty.
I will get those now, thanks and take care!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed this tutorial and my color choices. Happy crocheting!
Thank you Amanda for this tutorial. I hope I finally get this pattern right, I've tried it a couple of times before but it didn't work out.
Will let you know how it turns out
You’re welcome! Keep at it as chevrons can be a little tricky at first. You got this!
I am following along as best I can but have yet to get it to work out correctly… trying again tomorrow …I can do this by goodness lol
@@AmandaCrochets thank you!!
this is a must do blanket, thank you, hope I remember it all
Thanks!
I really want to try this stich on my next baby blanket. I would love to see a pattern foe a zig zag stich if possible. Ty again
You should! It’s a lot of fun! What do you mean by zig zag stitch?
Loved the colors you used. Did you use all 5 skiens of yarn or you were left with some ? And what is the weight of the yarn you used ?
Thanks! I did have some yarn leftover. The yarn I used is worsted weight #4 yarn.
I’ve never heard of that before, but if it works out better for you, that’s great!
@@AmandaCrochetsit makes such a difference on your edges, eliminates that gap, I use it all the time!
Hi!!! I love your tutorial... working on a blanket now. But i have a question. After you've done the first row... can you not just do double crochet in every sritch after that? Just curious 🤔 👀
Hello! If you do not have the decrease sections and increase sections your pattern will not come out right.
Excellent instructions, thank you for the tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
I love it. My daughter ask me to make on for her baby June in June. Thank you so much. I followed along and made a swatch. Thanks again !!!
You’re welcome! Sounds like perfect timing for this blanket 😊
Loved your tutorial and I’m starting it tomorrow but I have a quick question how do you end the last row to make it look square ??
I have a separate video on how to straighten the edges. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/grJLV6xueg8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for making it so easy. Your wonderful. Could you please explain the shell stitch for me. My rows are always uneven. Thanks
You’re welcome! I actually have a video showing you how to make the shell stitch as well as a few shell patterns on my channel. You should check it out!
Wonder how this would work in Caron Simply Soft yarn, and how many would I need.
I’m sure this would look beautiful in Caron Simply Soft yarn! You may need 1 additional skein of the two colors to complete this and 1 skein of the white.
What a great tutorial. You teach beautifully. I can’t wait to try this pattern for myself. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks so much 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I had used a base 22 for some reason, rather than 24. After I fixed that, everything fell into place. I don’t know where I got 22! Lol
@@tobytriplett9328 oh I’m so glad you figured it out! 😊
I loved making this blanket . I really would like to put a border on it . Could you please do a tutorial to show. Us how. To do a border.
Do you put a border on this blanket or does it look better without a border?
I did not put a border on this blanket, but you’re welcome to if you’d like.
Is it ALWAYS 2 dbl at the end of a row in the chain 3?
The chain 3 counts as your first dbl crochet, so you will only make 1 dbl crochet.
Do you think a variegated yarn would work between the two main colors?
Yes of course!
Thank You for responding, I am redoing it one more time and I think I found a mistake. Thank You again for Your time and attention
@@marinagamus3688 you’re welcome! Good luck!
I am making this for a gift white, I have some blue like you have and pink I think thank you so much
You’re very welcome!
I love this pattern and just finished it, but would love to know how to create the border. ❤️❤️
I'm glad you love this pattern! I did not make a border for this blanket. However, I do show you how to make an even border in this video if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/grJLV6xueg8/w-d-xo.html
I love your videos they are so clear.
Thanks!
Thank you. 💕
For the blanket with 99 chains, this ended up being 32 inches wide. For the 135 chains, it ended up being about 36 inches wide.
Do you have the counts if I want to make a larger blanket
Yes I do! I mention the multiple to change the size near the beginning of the tutorial. 😊
so i don’t really understand the pattern written can you explain. so i do the dc 3 times and then dc together how many times ?
One dc in 3 stitches, 2dctog twice
Will this work with a self-striping yarn?
Yes of course!
hi i love this blanket and it's been fun to make! i'm having issues with it looking less wavy towards the top rows. have you experienced this and know what is the issue? i've gone back and made sure i followed the pattern, but not all rows end with the same [1dc in each 3 st].
That’s my first time making this stitch
And I love it!!! 😊 thank you so much
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoy it just as much as I do :)
What if 78 chains? It will same to do to start in 4th chains? Or 8?
If you want to change up the sizing of this blanket, you will need to work in multiples of 12+3. So 12 times any number and add 3 more chains to the very end.
Do you always start and end with 2 dc?
Yes, you will need 2dc at the beginning (1dc and chain 3 in the same stitch) and 2dc (in the same stitch) at the very end. This is how your work will stay in balance.
Hello! Lovely video. What thickness is your yarn please? Is it DK?
Hi Tina! The yarn I used is a worsted weight #4 yarn.
I loved it and i’m doing it !!! ♥️🥰
Wonderful!
@@AmandaCrochets You said that the glacier one your did 99 chains and the red heart soft you used 123 chains. So I started mine with 123 chains.
@@6996katmom I understand now. I made the one with Red Heart Soft a little bigger because I had more yarn I wanted to use up. Otherwise both Red Heart Soft and I Love This Yarn are the same weight.
@@AmandaCrochets Thanks for helping me understand. Your pattern was the best to understand.
@@6996katmom You're very welcome! :)
@@AmandaCrochets Thank you for the tutorial, I have gotten it figured out! It is working very well, I love the stitch!!!
@@annmariemoore225 oh I'm so happy it's working out for you! Happy crocheting!
Do you have a video showing how to add a border to the straight sides?
No sorry I don’t. I just eyeball the stitches and try and make them as even as possible.
Great work.....thanks once again for an awesome tutorial Amanda! Be safe!
Thank you and thanks for watching! Happy crocheting!
Making a scrap blanket for my dog with this pattern. Thank you so much! For the 99 chain blanket, how many rows did you do?
I made a total of 54 rows for this blanket.
Thank you so much for this great tutorial ✨
I just want to ask you can we use any size of skein ? Even if its thin ?
Hello, yes you can use any weight yarn you’d like!
