The Association performing their soon to be #1 single at the Monterey Pop festival. Sadly, there is no video footage of them performing it so I did the next best thing.
Yep. It was part of the Monterey outtakes disc in the box set that came out around the 30th anniversary of the festival. In fact, that was the only video of the band's performance.
@@donaldfewell8908 She wrote Windy about a fellow musician who was hitting on her and she did not care for him. She said she was the character Windy in the song and externalized herself into Windy if that makes sense.
The interesting thing is that even though they were great musicians, as evidenced by this performance, they were never allowed to play on their records. Their producer Bones Howe always relied on the Wrecking Crew to record the instrumentation while the group did the singing.
@@TC-tl8ie yep. In fact, when the Byrds ercorded "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn, Turn, Turn" the only members of the band that were in the studio were McGuinn, Clark and Crosby.
@@harveycan5820 I don't think so. All that's available is the 3 songs The Machine, Along Comes Mary and Windy. It is acknowledged that this is incomplete and that they actually played more songs. But I would love to be proved wrong!
Its pretty amazing - they were incredible musicians that could sing and play - clear in this clip i mean shit they were probably tripping balls too since it was Monterey Pop haha
Props to a band like a seemingly straight band like the Association playing Monterey, but it's unnecessary and shallow to dismiss Janis, who brought the house down.,
I'm not a huge Janis Joplin fan however her performance with big brother and the holding company performing ball and chain was the most intense energy of a live performance I've ever seen!
That guitarist playin the chords is jammin the fuck out. I love The Association. Sunshine punk almost haha so ahead of their time.
sunshine punk! 😂😂😎😎
Sunshine progressive! These guys had so much going on, that’s what made them infectious
They can play and sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw in an interview that they considered themselves a 12 piece band because they all sang and played instruments! 😅😅😎😎
They always sound great.Timeless.
Electric performance of their great hit. Wish we had the video. I did see the other one from the Monterey Pop filming.
There is a clip of the Association performing "Along Comes Mary" at Monterey. It's posted on You Tube.

I Love It, The first Performance At Monterey Pop Festival
Thank You
+Uziel Creed Thanks. Just too bad they don't have the actual footage of them on here so I decided to do the next best thing.
That punchy bass tone though
Thank you for this
You are quite welcome.
Brian Cole on bass.

Pre Woodstock. Refined this in the studio & it went to #1. Great remake. Ruthann Friedman wrote it & did the original on A&M records.
Why don't we hear a lot more about Ruthann?

They played on the Renaissance album
And people gave the Monkees hell for it, when everyone else did it.

Thanks for this upload. wondered how they pulled off the harmonies.
Any chance someone has a link for the recorder part? Trying to learn on tin whistle...
Nice
Where can you see their full set?
Unfortunately, I don't know if they filmed or recorded the full set. They only had two songs on the box set I got this from.
There is a complete Monterey Pop Box set that has their whole set.

How did they pull it off without the Wrecking Crew..? Whom played on all their studio cuts.

Great players and singers. They were dismissed as a pop act while all the idiots crowned Joplin as the real talent.
You gotta admit that janis performance was pretty extraordinary!
