Wow! Great to see this video clip, even if it has deteriorated over the years. The show was broadcast in full "living" color but this tape is so washed out, you can only see the color reflected off an electric guitar now. I recall that the Smother Brothers Hour show was a top-rated variety show back in the '60s that frequently had millions of viewers each week-- it was part of the "groovy" scene back then. A kid growing up in the '60s most likely knew who Laurel and Hardy were, but that act is now about 100 years old! How many people under the age of 50 have ever heard of Laurel and Hardy? Not many, I am sure. Anyway, I laughed pretty hard watching this clip, as I now see the adult humor that made the Smother Brothers so funny with their straight guy and funny guy routine. I don't recall that I laughed so much back then as a kid watching this show. Great to see the Association perform one of their many hits-- this one being "Windy." Anyway, this was a treat to see, despite the poor condition of the recording-- at least the sound quality seems pretty good still although it seems mixed in with pre-recorded singing.

@Joe Carlton Yes, it's a shame this one didn't get cleaned up like a couple others did for release on dvd/rebroadcast. For the most part, this performance is definitely a lip-sync to the studio recording... although the lead vocals are mic'd for live. Thanks for commenting!

I could have done some nice restoration to this clip. It was recorded on ampex 2" tape machines. They were the amazement of the industry before the helical scans appeared.

Another one of their great hits. Takes me back to 1967 when I was dating a young lady at that time. Got married in 1968 and still married 55 and a half years later. 😀

Quick story, that no one cares to hear: Every Thursday I'd pick my adolescent daughter up from school to get lunch together. Played this song incessantly, much to her annoyance. She always complained. She's late 20's now--she told me it's her favorite song

This song always reminds me of my Little Sister Gayle. They called her "Windy". She was 6 when this song came out. Sadly she passed in 1984 at only 23 from Complications to Friedrichs Ataxia, a rare muscle disorder. RIP Gayle......

My coming of age 'genesis' song that reached #1 for 4 weeks at the beginning of the magical and mythic summer of 1967! The sweet nectar and promise of youth, life and love playing out endlessly as the greatest collection of popular classics were birthed during that incandescent summer! RIP to the great Terry Kirkman of Association fame who started it all! They debuted as the opening act of the legendary Monterey Pop festival!

From Rock Superstars in the late 60's to a college tour in 2019. Every once in a while I relive my late teens and twenties in never dying music TH-cam tour.

I like the cheezy quick one liner humor, oh and this song, its one I like its uplifting and happy, and kind of relaxing, one memorie I have of hearing this song is comming home from the west noble cross contry invitational in 1999 on the bus it was a nice day and we were all kind of tired experianceing a runners euphoria if you will, I remember hearing this one on the radio, and loved it, another pop song I like from highschool was when the band played dawning of the age of aquerious and let the sun shine in, during the half time show at the football game one year, I liked that one too, of course I grew up listining to oldies radio as that is what my perants had on when we would go anywhere in the car I learned to apreciate it , and like it, even saw the association this year though terry dont sing with them anymore and I was dissapponted by that, they still had three in the band and del ramos larrys brother plays with them as well so it made up for it a little bit, but they were only one of the 6 bands that did not sound like they used to, though mostly due to not having the 6 part harmonie anymore with soo many members gone.
anyway if you like music like this from the sixties go see the happy togather tour when it comes near your town or city, it is well worth it, loved the grass roots, the turtles and the buckinhams, it was nice to see soo many ledgends in concert, oh and mark lindsey from paul revear and the raiders, as well as the association and the cowsills, they were good too, though many of the cowsills are passed away as well, but there are still three left right now, and as for mark lindsey you sware he was only 40 somthing the way he dances and bounces around on the stage, and the turtles well they are still full of comady after soo many years.

the original song, written by a woman, Windy is a dude. On the original recording by the Association, they brought in a piccolo player to play, but Terry uses a recorder here. Everytime I drive thru Salina, Kansas on I-70, I think "hay, Terry Kirkland is from here." just a few notes from a great time with you guys years ago.

60s70sVintageRock I saw the unfortunate news on a Yahoo search & he was only 72. At least I got to see him with The Association during the summer of 1997 at Smith Point State Park in NY. Too bad, he was very talented.

velma Celeste There are plenty of us around! The 60's & 70's were the best and unfortunately the aura of excitement & excellence that era gave off will never be duplicated. We were a lucky group!

In the 50-odd years since this was broadcast, music has got much worse. But thankfully comedy has improved immeasurably.

Danny Fenris no kidding the music was awesome but God that comedy was horrible

beloog99 I don't think that being comedians were the Association's strengths. However, I always found the Smothers Brothers to be funny.

Larry Ramos looked the most comfortable, but he had already done a season on The Andy Williams Show.

I thought that the Smothers Brothers' TV show was broadcast live to the East Coast during it's first season and a half (January, 1967-May, 1968), and seen on the West Coast in a three hour delay, going to tape for it's final season (September, 1968-April, 1969) so that CBS censors could preview episodes and demand cuts.

Lip-syncing this appearance, but they were quite capable of doing justice (and then some) to all of their songs live.

That was a great song, I loved it in the 60s and it's just as good now. The Smothers Bros were also my fave TV show until they were canceled for being too controversial.

Smothers brothers had a great show. No cords to the guitars, live?

What a blast from the past, both the Smother's Brothers and the Association. I wonder if Ruthann Friedman ever thought her song would be that successful?
