I went to school at Harehills Secondary School between 66 and 68, it also had a youth club in the evening Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from there down to Hernadoes cafe after school later drank regularly in the Fford Green, the music room saw the Rolling stones there, the weekend before they hit the charts for the first time, often drank upstairs in a rather elegant bar called the Elizabethan Bar, the licencee was called John I think.
Now in Derbyshire and the pub Fford is now a supermarket.

Harehills Lane and the shops were good back in the 70/80s, shoe shops/butchers/bakers/fishmonger etc etc..... mum bought me my first pair of DM shoes if I'm not mistaken in Cleggs shoe shop on the lane.....my first Star Wars figure from the newsagents and the walls ice cream sign, Drakes/ Malcolms the barbers when I had hair lol....place is a shit hole now....how sad😪 Most of my family lived in Harehills and have some fantastic memories.....good days all gone now unfortunately

You could buy shoes from stylos haberdashery from cloughtons selglors Sold underware stockings and jumper's,and there was various other shop's and you would always bump into someone you knew and have a chat, now it's so called multicultural but seems they are stranger's to each other.

Looking at these "then and now" photos. It goes to show that change isn't always good and some areas of the city are crap holes. I grew up on Compton Crescent in Harehills, Leeds in the early 70s and it was a good place to live, now I wouldn't go back there as its a right dog hole today...

The days of looking out for each other and a real sense of community have long gone, only goes to show how much harehills has gone downhill, it's a sh#thole.

David Burns- it is indeed, I find harehills thoroughly oppressive, filthy & depressing. it is sadly a representation of everything that is wrong with the concept of mass immigration into Britain.
harehills is a massive abject failure!

This school is included in some of my other Harehills videos. I never attended this school but knew many who did although I did attend the army cadets they ran there back in the 70s.

5:24 Harehills Secondary School, my first year here I was in class 1B, teacher was Geoffrey Hill, simply the best teacher in the school, gave nicknames to most in class, some I remember, Dervish, Knocker, Curly, Bushbaby, apologies to those I fail to remember.

Harehills was a lovely area in the 60s and 70s when I was growing up. It is basically a no go area now full of Eastern Europeans lounging around the street in gangs all day. A uk Casablanca. Dreadfully sad how an area has been decline like this. Multiculturalism my arse.
