No Kelsi wasn't being full of herself at all, Ryan and Sharpay were. Do u hear the lyrics of that song? It's basically saying, "Yeah we're the best, no one's better than us. We're gonna beat all of you and leave u in the dust". Kelsi was clearly annoyed with them, and rightly so especially after the way Sharpay reprimanded her for petty reasons
+Kobe Busia which is why I love them. Idk every character pretty much annoyed me except those two. That whole victim thing everyone had going on. That's why I respect Gabriella (even though I didn't care for her either) because she actually did something about it instead of whine and moan like the other characters. Also Sharpay and Ryan's songs are catchy af

Of course it's more genuine, those two actually rehearsed and practiced their songs to be perfect. Troy and Gabriella's were not perfect because theirs was mostly improvised, the exact opposite of what you want for a play.

There's no way that Troy and Gabriella would have been able to carry a performance like "Bop to the Top". They didn't have enough stage presence.
This wasn't a competition though, also it was a call back audition so it wasn't even a show. LOL.
Beth Green Well being a callback audition, technically it was a competition. They were competing against Troy and Gabriella to get the roles in the play

They do have more stage presence but it seemed like the pairs were auditioning for the main couple who are assumed to be in love. Yes the Evans' have wayyyy more stage presence but Troy and Gabi showed more raw emotion and their own kind of energy. Plus, Darbus was probably happy to get some fresh talent and a main couple that aren't siblings.

At 0:45 when the students in the audience look bored, I always get really annoyed, because I wish people would put this much effort into the drama/music program at my school.

I just realized that Kelsey and others were pretty annoyed by Ryan and Sharpay's performances, but I think they were just trying to step things up and change it a little. I know the originals in musicals and plays can be good, but it's usually nice to change things up a bit too and add a bit of fun in it! Sharpay has always been my favorite character in HSM and Ryan is so precious X3

And yes, it was pretty rude to just suddenly decide they wanted to be in the school musical when Sharpay and Ryan worked so hard, but in our school we do tend to have different people playing lead roles... isn't that fair? I know Sharpay is supposed to the alpha-bitch mean girl, but I freakin LOVED this song. These two are actually perfect. Everything people don't like about Sharpay can be traced back to her confidence in herself, her brother, and her skill, which is by no means a bad thing. She and Ryan have beautiful chemistry on and offstage, and both have great voices and natural rhythm. They are die-hard theater kids, and aren't afraid to want to be the best, which they often are. I love these two. Yes, they have flaws, but that doesn't make them "the villain." If every character with flaws was a villain, then it would be Kelsey vs. literally everyone else. They are not bad people, and anyone who says they are probably just has a Troyella song stuck in their head.
A crime they committed in this movie was continuously interrupting Sharpay and Ryan's performance.

I think throughout the movie Sharpay doesn't care to acknowledge her brother for anything more than his performances (As seen in a spotlight in the 2nd movie) but like (all of this is me reading too much into things idk if there's a interview on this or whatever but if ur gonna say "you're reading too far into things" below, I know, and that's why it's fun.)
In the performance Sharpay is either 1 solo line ahead of Ryan, and the only time he catches up she just pushes him back
This is one of the only times in the movie he's viewed in the same perspective as her, almost always being pushed to the side of the frame. This is different when she's not around, ofc
And during that last part, the most obvious bit, that bop she gives him on the head pushes him further down the ladder
ALSO it's much less noticable but in the album version, his voice is slightly quiter than Sharpay's whenever they sing together.

Best version of this song: Suite Life of Zach and Cody when they did the play. Ashley Tisdale ended up being part of it too. Much funnier there. I actually first saw that episode after an airing of High School Musical.
