I think this was really cute because they were siblings as opposed to a romantic couple. With the whole romance thing beaten to death in the films, I really appreciate this song that makes me feel a different kind of bond that siblings have.
To be fair, if they didn't act so pompous and didn't use underhanded means, people would probably have sided with them. In fact, Troy and Gabby probably wouldn't have minded if they just lost properly. It's their attitude that made them the bad guys, not the situation. What would the message be? "Because you know you're the best you can treat other people as if they're below you?" That's what they've been doing throughout the whole movie. That's not really a good message for the target audience at the time (children/teens). Sharpay and Ryan's characters stood out beautifully as the "antagonists." I hated Sharpay when I was a kid, but I loved Maddie in the Suite Life. Ashley Tisdale delivered great acting to make me hate Sharpay and that was her intention. She even suggested Gabriella and Troy to audition as some background roles which is seen as bitchy but it was reasonable - they had no experience whatsoever. So making Sharpay and Ryan the bad guys when all they were were dedicated, driven and hard working is just weird.
Tbh i think Sharpay and Ryan deserved every role, mainly because they see this as an "art" and they kinda live for it. They love what they do and want to get better and better. Meanwhile, Troy and Gabriella are just good singers, nothing more. I don't think that either's group songs are better or anything. Troy's and Gabriella's songs seem more with a meaning and they sing it from their heart (also their voices sound a lit more natural) , while Sharpay's and Ryan's are just funny and dynamic (i think the idea was to sounds let's say technically, but i do enjoy them more). But in the end, I would have liked to see them being the stars while Troy and Gabriella just to discover themselves through music and that's all.

They just want to know the real song is like on piano instead of Sharpay and Ryan's "Pop Version." After singing the song for fun, Ms. Darbus came after she heard them singing. That's when Ms. Darbus started the "Call Back!". I know Ryan and Sharpay are professionally trained actors, but Kelsi wanted to stick the original slow version of the song instead of pop. because Kelsi wrote the song. I agree with Kelsi, most songwriters would want to stick with the original instead of changing it. To me, Kelsi is the real star about the musical because she wrote everything. I felt so bad for Kelsi because she's always tormented by the Sharpay.

It just occurred to me that I wouldn't want to cast Sharpay and Ryan because they changed the song and its definitely not their job as actors to give direction, suggestion or commentary. They would be fired for that and Sharpay would definitely be fired for that attitude. It's actually Kelsey's job to give direction/suggestion/commentary because she wrote the songs and the job of the Director. On the other hand, Troy and Gabriela seem to barely prepare and not put much effort in so I wouldn't want to cast them either. Wow, studying acting has seriously ruined my ability to watch films.

It just occurred to me that I wouldn't want to cast Sharpay and Ryan because they changed the song and its definitely not their job as actors to give direction, suggestion or commentary. They would be fired for that and Sharpay would definitely be fired for that attitude. It's actually Kelsey's job to give direction/suggestion/commentary because she wrote the songs and the job of the Director. On the other hand, Troy and Gabriela seem to barely prepare and not put much effort in so I wouldn't want to cast them either. Wow, studying acting has seriously ruined my ability to watch films.
Unless it's specified that they have to use the original, that would be counted as their interpretation as actors, which is definitely a good thing :)... Sometimes that's ok, sometimes it's not
