Great video! Can’t believe I’ve never discovered this channel before! Also nice job keeping it so engaging as a solo presenter!

Another great interaction I saw with Chalk Outline is with the blue merfolk Forensic Researcher.
I was playing an aggressive deck, as you'd expect, and my opponent's 5C Outline deck ground me out by tapping my threats, leaving up tokens for trades, and drawing cards with clues. The nail in the coffin was a copy of Quintorius, Field Historian from the list as a redundant payoff for exiling cards from the yard and making 3/2 spirits on top of the 2/2 detectives from stalling stuff with their icy manipulator with legs.
That single match proved me that buildarounds can be good this time around, or at least better than they've been in a while.

I think my first 5 drafts tried to overcommit to two color decks. The archetype synergy is usually wanting a three color setup. (Esper Detectives/Mardu power-2) I also have found being lower is better with tricks than the removal/bomb strat for consistency. Also, I love that the card draw is so present in most colors (sorry green) and not just blue. Still a thumbs up draft set for me.

Just watched your Niv draft on Twitch. My 3-color decks (2 plus splash, usually) with equal or maybe slightly less fixing get color-screwed all the time. Don't know how you get away with playing 5.

Super valuable information. This podcast inspired me to try to draft 5c in every set and this is one where I haven't quite figured out how to go about it yet.
I think one reason is I didn't prioritize things that go in the bin easily for evidence collection.
I'm going to keep trying until I figure it out.

Yay Sam Black posted a new vid! Now I can absorb all his masterful knowledge and [hopefully] stop sucking!
Really enjoying the themes of the set but struggling a bit on the gameplay I guess.

Same. Only done one draft and it didn't go well, but the mechanics look sweet.

My advice is combat tricks. They remove the ward two concerns and keep your board presence before the bombs take over. Very valuable in this set. Especially the ones that investigate.

      @@danielwilson8495 Yep, makes sense

@@danielwilson8495They synergize with the ward on your own creatures as well, making it easier to find spots where you can play your tricks and not get blown out by a removal spell.
