Metabo power tools are the top of the line / PRO. That set is top shelf for sure. They do have some lower end tools for the bulk of customers that don’t want to pay high prices for tools. I think those lower quality / priced tools also fit well for a contractor who just needs a tool on a rare occasion. Great video. My drill choice would be the DeWalt. Smaller than the Stanley one, all heavy duty features. Durable for outdoor use / building.
As a long-time Costco employee in the U.S., I'd just like to mention that the items online are often a little more expensive than they are in the store because they're including the shipping charge. Not sure it's the same there, but I assume it is.
It is, but we have a little more than the shipping cost added. Generally on an item that may be £120 in store, we can pay as much as £165 online, Costco in the UK like to rip its customers off whenever they can. Our membership is also now extortionately high, Executive membership this year went up to over £70.
@@melvinphillips786 That's interesting on the shipping. I wonder the reason. With regards to the Executive Membership, 70 pounds is equal to roughly 88 dollars here, and our Executive membership has been $120 for many years at this point and rumored to go higher, so it's much more expensive here. I can't speak to how it works in other countries, but just to let you know from someone who has worked there much longer than expected, Costco has always been a solid company where reputation is everything to them, and one thing you can count on is that they are never looking for ways to rip you off. Someone might beat them on a price from time to time, usually because they are selling it below their cost, but Costco has never been known for trying to take advantage of its members, one of the reasons people feel comfortable shopping there. When most companies have an item to sell, they wonder, How much can we sell this for? Costco's philosophy has always been, How can we sell this for less? And trust me I'm not trying to stick up for Costco because I work there. I've been there almost 30 years, and I've always hated working retail. This is not the career path I expected to take in life, but I have to be honest about them at the same time. I know from being in management there long enough that I have sat in countless meetings where they talk about assuring they maintain high standards and to never let that change. They are well aware of many large corporations who seemed to big to fail that ended up falling one day to their death anyways, and they work exceedingly hard to make sure they won't be the next one. Just wanted to give you a brief look inside what goes on behind closed doors.
@@melvinphillips786 $45 upcharge for shipping here is not out of the question. Shipping is expensive here. I bought a $50 Hoodie on sale (not from Costco) which didn't fit and had to pay $20 return shipping and place a new order off sale, that is total B.S. I see people on ebay selling an item with free shipping for $6 but my shipping cost on the same item is $6 minimum!! Last year I tried to sell a Cadillac sedan rear seat bottom, back, and headrests 48in x 24in x 20in, 78lbs and the cheapest discounted rate I could get for 1200 mile delivery was $320. Dividing it into two lighter and slightly smaller packages raised the price substantially.
Costco on your side of the pond has much nicer tools than we get. If you’re ever visiting the US and want a challenge…I’ve got a 35’ RV with way too many tools that I need to organize. I’ve got maybe 6 or so Ridgid storage toolboxes, four of the half size Packout bins, 6 mini Systainers, and a few Makita MakPacs. I’ve got a ferrule crimper, closed pin Deutsch crjmper, Anderson PowerPole crimper, Pex plumbing crimper. Couple 3/8” impacts. Lots of different long reach pliers so I can reach into the RV engine. Perhaps I do have too many tools, but we travel for long distances and work on projects on the road. We end up doing things like switching from 12v to 48v battery during trips. If you do end up visiting the US or Canada, I’m happy to drive to wherever you are.
Oh: we also have crafting supplies like hand sewing, painting, crochet and knitting, and a lot of pens. Fountain pens, bottled ink, notebooks, and a drawer full of various dog things. And about 40 spice jars and packets.
My Costco here in US does not have any power tools, lol. I'd be lucky to find a wrench set or something, crazy how much more you had in your tools section.
#5 that little rolling shop stool was one of the best buys I have recently bought. I got one from Harbor Freight, it was $54 and it works very well when your doing breaks or even cleaning the rims or the whole car.

When you tighten the drillbit up in the drill, once it’s tight, move the chuck back a little bit. It will click and lock so it will stop the Chuck from undo itself when using
Came on here to see if anybody had mentioned this little known pro tip for locking the chucks , looks like I was beaten to it. Not all drills etc do this only the quality ones. As stated once tight turn the chuck back the opposite direction a few degrees you will feel it lock
That Stanley Fatmax Drill looks good for the money, i actually use Worx tools as the batteries are interchangeable with my diy tools, garden tools, and pressure washer would love to see a video making a shadow foam storage box with some Worx items 😀

20v and 18v are indeed the same. Its all about definition. 20v is the batterys voltage when fully charged without a load connected to it. 18v is the voltage measured on the terminals when it has a load connected. This however has led to a great deal of confusion thoughout the years and people have bought into the idea and thought one battery is superior to another. This is one of the reasons bosch rebranded their 10,8v line to 12v. The batteries are the same but people thpught they where inferior to other 12v batteries
Highly underrated comment! Same goes for the higher voltage batteries like 40v and 80v. Ryobi has their 18v batteries listed as such but their 40v is just two 18v together and matches any other 36v tool.

For the Drill... I'd choose DeWalt. The Stanley looks like it's almost interchangeable with the DeWalt, but I'm sure there's a tab on the battery that stops them being swapped. Metabo *used* to be Hitachi power tools - good quality, but my concern is that in 10 years time, will they still have parts available? I know that my DeWalt's generally will.
I've got the Dewalt - the batteries last for ages and fit my Dewalt blower, also It's compact powerful and lightweight but the Fatmax looks great value - I am DIY only!
@@ShadowFoam the DeWalt. We have quite a few Dewalt tools and love the Tstack system. I know we will be ordering some of your foam to improve our system layout
This may seem a bit silly, but would the hot foam finisher also work for heat shrink tubing? I use it a lot for some of my projects so a little tool like that would be really useful (I'd also really like to support you guys more, before I buy the halfords heat shrink torch)
Stanley Fat Max will be great for the Home DIY fixer. The one who changes needs to tight the occasional screw. Looks like it may fall apart to easily for anyone who counts on it for regular work day-to-day
Got to say I love a visit to Costco- some great buys around. Love the stool and shadow foam insert definitely want to look at doing this when my small workshop build is ready for it! 👍
The only thing I can think of to improve your hole saw set up is to print some stickers to put on with the size of the bit so you know exactly what bit you’re picking up
Stanley drill is the one for me. also your heat gun would be great with heat shrink safer then a lighter and a heat shrink kit. was it battery or 240 and also body wrap to get into the smaller parts
I have the exact same heat gun (minus the ShadowFoam logo ;) ) that I bought years ago specifically to keep in my tool box to carry for heat shrink :). AC Mains and only complaint is the lead is a little too short.
He was on about your drill bits coming loose. What you didn't do with the last two chucks the DeWalts and the metabo is lock the chuck. Now if you take the chalk very tight and then click it back as if like it was loosening it but you don't loosen it it will lock it will do a click but it will lock the chuck it will never come loose. Not many people know about this because they don't read the instructions.
Ive got the brushless combi drill and impact gun with 2x4 ah batteries and cannot fault them. Id love to get a load of stanley tools to go into my costco big tool box that i custimised to have lewis hamilton decals on it. Loving the vids
Never used a Metabo combi. But I worked with a guy into up cycling rough stuff from online auctions. He swore by Metabo milling tools and burnishers for his work. Amateur only, but did the job.
Never been costco need find one and try. Must say I've just upgraded my DeWalt drill and driver got drill driver 18v 2 4amp xr batteries and charger plus t stack case for 218 couldn't complain. 🏴👍
You should have a look at some of the warhammer cases for games workshop, my nephew collects them, there will defo me a market for the foam, you could even do a collab with games workshop!
I wonder if any of those drills have a ratcheting chuck, that allow you to lock the chuck by twisting it back one click after it starts to ratchet. Might solve the bits loosening and falling out issue. Most reasonable quality drills support this feature. Anyway just a thought.
Don't remember ever finishing a game of Monopoly in our family, always turned into a massive row and falling out. 😄 My sister in law is obsessed with Costco though, so I'm in for the win of that themed set. Of those three drills it would be the DeWalt, although the Stanley looks ok and I'd have been satisfied with that a few years ago. When I decided my DIY deserved an upgrade, DeWalt was on the shortlist but I found I preferred Makita and am extremely happy with the kit I've built up. Both good makes though, and working with quality tools makes a huge difference.
@@ShadowFoamYes indeed, all my cordless tools and batteries are loosely arranged in a stacked toolbox system, with plenty of gaps for everything to rattle and clatter about. I can't imagine any way to improve on this. 🤔
A lot of sites don't allow you use steps , I was on one site and a guy gave me an instruction on using 5 tread steps apparently you can only go up 3 treads ! By the way I was 60 yrs old at the time how did I ever manage ?
Jona I have the same holesaws and was about to order some inserts for my packout boxes when this video pops up.......must be fate......so I may as well be cheeky and see if you will do me a discount code seeing as I'm a first time customer 😉 merry Christmas 🎄

@@ShadowFoam I must have around 8 sets of Hole Saws, but the only ones I ever use now if possible is the Bosch Quick Change ones. So So much better to use. Oh.. little tip I found for when you have the Saw jammed onto the Arbor on the 'normal' hole saw kits ... Put it onto an Impact Drill and have a go on a piece of scrap wood - that impact vibration loosens it up again! tried this on a set that had the Arbor stuck on for over a year and freed in seconds!
Only thing about Costco is that they have the huge price without the VAT and then the price with the VAT is more or less in the fine print. They should really have it the other way around so you know what you are paying when you get to the tills. Great video though! :D
Great video, just found your channel with lots of great videos I’ve watch 5 of them since last night and will watch the others in time, not sure if you will see this as it’s some time since you posted it but I would off loved to have won the Costco Monopoly as it’s so unique and I would of played it for sure, I hope who ever won it played it and not just put it in a box.. 🤞👍
I would go for the dewalt drill. They had a deal in tool station or screwfix , dewalt drill 796 with 2 4ah batterys for pretty much the same price as the ones in the video
Disappointed the steps didn't go into a Shadow Foam Wall Mount Box!! I would have put hand tools in the draw, and probably a socket set into the tray. There isn't a Costco that close to me, so never been to one.
I absolutely love Costco. I am going to go buy that game because I absolutely love monopoly as well. As does my daughter we own probably 14 monopoly games already. I also love the saddle foam I will be ordering my own so that I can set up my brand new tool cabinet.
Nice of you to go to Costco, but you do know that they have a restricted membership that most people cannot become members so nice of you to show us what we are missing that the ten percent have access too.
@@ShadowFoam we have normal, junior, cheaters edition, Disney, game of thrones, empire, simpsons, elf, secret vault, Christmas edition, Edinburgh and only fools and horses edition.
@@ShadowFoam Unfortunately the Deadpool ones are not as risky as I would prefer. They are the Deadpool logo, an 'okay' hand, a Deadpool bomb, a unicorn, a taco, and a chef’s hat. Ya, pretty sure Hasbro had a hand in control this. SO many other items that could have been used. The most risky is the unicorn... Disappointing. The Iron Maiden one made more sense and has the Guitar Amp Stack, Steve’s Bass, Nicko’s Drum Kit, Albatross, Flying Helmet, and Wasted Years Computer from the video. It was made by a different company so they did a better job.
Nice job Jon I’m a massive fan of Costco and I need a set of those steps. I’ve got a couple of makita boxes that I use for my coloured waxed and sprout stain spray bottles that I need to do shadow foam on I may treat myself after Xmas
@@ShadowFoam no power tools all hand tools. I'm on the screfix TITAN range with some Parkside (Lidl) thrown in for good measure. I've not seen any Stanley ones in my area TBH and the usual outlets are a bit snobbish when stocking ranges. TBH the stuff I have has done me rightly, have built a 12 x 8 shed and set it up as a workshop and all of my TITAN and Parkside stuff never missed a beat. Especially the Parkside impact driver with 4 AH battery, abused the hell out of that. But the fat Stanley looks good and the price for brushless WOW!!! .
When you tighten a keyless chuck you need to tighten it then turn it back anti clockwise until you hear a click. That locks it. Thats why your bits dropped out. Hope this helps in future reviews.
Wrong. And many other people including manufacturers have stated such. Look at the design patents on how a ratcheting chuck works. Clicking it back unlocks the pawls.

Stanley Fat Max will be great for the Home DIY fixer. The one who changes needs to tight the occasional screw. Looks like it may fall apart to easily for anyone who counts on it for regular work day-to-day
Might be worth putting it to a test more intense than my Shadow Foam test 😂
Looks like a half decent tool, been looking for a cheap drill I can leave in the car just in case instead of taking my makita
Got to say I love a visit to Costco- some great buys around. Love the stool and shadow foam insert definitely want to look at doing this when my small workshop build is ready for it! 👍
Keep me in the loop as your workshop progresses! Love seeing a dialled in workshop!
did you lock the chuck on the dewalt drill or have they removed that feature with the newer models?
Our family played Monopoly every Saturday night when I was growing up. Love your videos. Keep it up 👍
Thanks mate, which version of monopoly?
Look at craftsman v20 tools, same battery platform as the Stanley drill and there are a lot of tools
Dewalt drill and shadow foam inserts
The only thing I can think of to improve your hole saw set up is to print some stickers to put on with the size of the bit so you know exactly what bit you’re picking up
Dewalt hands down!!!
What about doing a tackle box for beach fishing using your foam inserts👍👍👍👍
That would be cool, thanks for the suggestion!
I think the inserts look way better when you reverse the lower one like you did
Thanks mate, appreciate that!
29‘36‘‘ I‘ll go with the METABO cause you‘ll get the Drills/Bits and others on Top.
I can't believe your costco carries Bosch!!
Yours doesn't!?
Ive got the brushless combi drill and impact gun with 2x4 ah batteries and cannot fault them. Id love to get a load of stanley tools to go into my costco big tool box that i custimised to have lewis hamilton decals on it. Loving the vids
I think the metabo is quite a good kit for the occasional home-use.
I agree mate, you get a lot for the price! 👍
I’d go for the stanley drill all day 👍👍👍
What makes you say that?
For the price and Stanley I feel are worth the money, plus you said that all the extra bits in kits are just to make up the numbers.
Never used a Metabo combi.
But I worked with a guy into up cycling rough stuff from online auctions.
He swore by Metabo milling tools and burnishers for his work. Amateur only, but did the job.
Not used Metabo miling tools personally, but you’ve peaked my interest now
That Stanley stuff looks dope. It’s an exact replica of dewalts stuff
Near enough yeah which surprised me tbh
Near enough yeah which surprised me tbh
Well probably made in the same factories, it is all just Black & Decker, that designates the labels.@@ShadowFoam
I like the dewalt drill kit because I’m a dewalt fan and also I would like the monopoly game set to play with my sons
Fingers crossed mate!
I would make a shadowfoam for my Monopoly for when uncle Bob plays with us and lands on Boardwalk again and tosses the whole thing. Better protection.
Haha that’s tickled me that!
I do like ide with holesaws . Mine are scattered across 4 different boxes
Thanks mate! Mine were too so I decided to do this and get them organised!
Never been costco need find one and try. Must say I've just upgraded my DeWalt drill and driver got drill driver 18v 2 4amp xr batteries and charger plus t stack case for 218 couldn't complain. 🏴👍
Good deal that! 👌
@@ShadowFoam yea a thought so.
Will the Dewalt batteries and Stanley batteries work with both tools
You should have a look at some of the warhammer cases for games workshop, my nephew collects them, there will defo me a market for the foam, you could even do a collab with games workshop!
Good video. What I would like to know: are Dewalt and Stanley batteries interchangeable?
Yes they are
I wonder if any of those drills have a ratcheting chuck, that allow you to lock the chuck by twisting it back one click after it starts to ratchet. Might solve the bits loosening and falling out issue. Most reasonable quality drills support this feature. Anyway just a thought.
I’ll have to give them a closer look 👀
Don't remember ever finishing a game of Monopoly in our family, always turned into a massive row and falling out. 😄 My sister in law is obsessed with Costco though, so I'm in for the win of that themed set. Of those three drills it would be the DeWalt, although the Stanley looks ok and I'd have been satisfied with that a few years ago. When I decided my DIY deserved an upgrade, DeWalt was on the shortlist but I found I preferred Makita and am extremely happy with the kit I've built up. Both good makes though, and working with quality tools makes a huge difference.
Big question is though, have you organised that kit yet?
@@ShadowFoamYes indeed, all my cordless tools and batteries are loosely arranged in a stacked toolbox system, with plenty of gaps for everything to rattle and clatter about. I can't imagine any way to improve on this. 🤔
The heat gun would be ideal for shrink tube.
Not tried it yet but I see what you mean! 👍
Does the fat max and Dewalt batteries fit each other
A lot of sites don't allow you use steps , I was on one site and a guy gave me an instruction on using 5 tread steps apparently you can only go up 3 treads ! By the way I was 60 yrs old at the time how did I ever manage ?
Sounds scary Ray, are you sure you're alright after going that high up mate?
Jona I have the same holesaws and was about to order some inserts for my packout boxes when this video pops up.......must be fate......so I may as well be cheeky and see if you will do me a discount code seeing as I'm a first time customer 😉 merry Christmas 🎄
Hahaha worth an ask isn’t it Tom? Drop me an email at Jonathan@shadowfoam.com and I’ll give you a discount code 👍
You sir are more awesome than you know ❤
Had a metabo 240v hammer drill best drill I have owned?!, never owned any Stanley power tools but i hear there good, my current tool kit is Milwaukee because I got a good deal on it
What deal did you get?
@@ShadowFoam The 6 peace kit for £789 from Screwfix, it's back up to £899 & just picked up the orbital sander to add to it from Toolstation for £80
who doesnt love costco. especially the tool aisle
Couldnt agree more! You never know what you’ll find!
I have never seen a Cosco Monopoly set before because we don’t have a cosco Store here in Gulfport Mississippi…..
Fingers crossed you are the lucky winner!
I will go for the dewalt drill but I have a different model from the one you presented. Mine you can change the intensity of the light
I like the sound of that! What model drill is it?
@@ShadowFoam it's the DCD791 I bought it in a kit with the impact driver DCF887 (in witch you can choose level of impact)
I’d want pink foam
Stay tuned 👀
I would go for the milwaukee power tools with a 7 yr warranty and 5 yr battery warranty too now.. also..they beat deealt hands down too also now to...
I don’t recall picking them up at Costco
I’ll be trying these hole saws 👍
Let me know how you get on with them! 👍
That is a great deal!
good stuff
Disappointed the steps didn't go into a Shadow Foam Wall Mount Box!! I would have put hand tools in the draw, and probably a socket set into the tray. There isn't a Costco that close to me, so never been to one.
You know me! I was tempted to make a shadow foam insert for the ladder 😂
Stanly owns dewalt do the batteries mix n match, so for bostich
Definitely Dewalt drill for me
I absolutely love Costco. I am going to go buy that game because I absolutely love monopoly as well. As does my daughter we own probably 14 monopoly games already. I also love the saddle foam I will be ordering my own so that I can set up my brand new tool cabinet.
14 sets wow! What’s your favourite set of Monopoly?
Personally I would get stanley fatmax drill
What makes you say that?
Nice of you to go to Costco, but you do know that they have a restricted membership that most people cannot become members so nice of you to show us what we are missing that the ten percent have access too.
We’ve unexpectedly started collecting the monopoly sets, we’re now at 12 sets and the Costco set was one we were not aware of!
What sets do you have?
@@ShadowFoam we have normal, junior, cheaters edition, Disney, game of thrones, empire, simpsons, elf, secret vault, Christmas edition, Edinburgh and only fools and horses edition.
My favorite Monopoly Game Boards are my Dead Pool and Iron Maiden versions.
Dare I ask what the rail stations are for those? 😂
That sounds like a fun project! I’d love to see that, let me know if you get onto it 👍
metabo drill for me lol
As a DIYer, it would have opted for the Stanley.
Do you have any Stanley tools?
I was going to say this actually, as I’ve used these tools for years and know how they work 😂
Is it US or Canada ?
