They doing the damn thang. Wanda is a ferocious singer. Didn't know that she had this type of pipes until watching this live video in concert. Unmatched talent on steriods. Simply the baddest female group of their time. Point Blank. Full Stop!
@@anthonytaylor7928 I always was fixated on Shelia who did the lead on "Show Me How" and "Don't ask my Neighbor". I always knew "about" Wanda; but with my eyes so glued on Shelia, I never took the time to truly appreciate the phenomenal natural gifts of Wanda. It's kind of like if a parent sees the gift in one favored child, while the other more quiet child grows up to be the next Einstein or some other great genius. Sometimes we miss it while it was right there all the time. (ps) I'm from the very early 60's so trust me I remember quite well when these young women hit the scene in the 70's. In fact, "So I Can Love You" and another one of their early big hits (while they were still with Isaac Hayes and Stax) "The Best Part of a love Affair" both were actually released in the late 60's as hits. Where were you? Oh Never mind; don't show your age..or lack thereof. Just kidding, my friend.
Dem girls could go. To sing this extremely difficult song at this level which requires superb harmony; and to do it at this incredible pace including keeping up with all the rapid choreographical moves while holding high notes blending simultaneously. Try it at home, it's not easy. You better be in good shape, it will wear you out. WOW!
Girl groups in the late 70's and early '80's in high school really mastered the vocal ability and agility technique in order to do this song. You had to be some strong soprano singing voices to master this song. You had to know your voice , how to sing and keep up with the tempo. Most of the girls back then, either came from the church background in choirs or they had vocal lessons from music/ voice teachers.
@@Calvin375 Yes I think singing this song was a task even the Emotions and they recorded it. It’s like your voice also have to be in top shape for this song and it didn’t help back then they had you lip syncing to the records on a lot of shows.
@@adrina911 Well, that's not true. You see, they already had the talent to sing. The Emotions and other famous groups of their time, before and after, took their craft very seriously. So they rehearsed and practiced the art of singing with their father Joseph and they sung in the choirs in church as well as in school. They were ready for any and all challenges. You see, even before you could become a singer, you had to learn the craft of singing. It doesn't happen overnight and you also have to be gifted to sing. So when they finally received that opportunity to record, they were more than ready for any and all tasks. "The Best of My Love" wasn't there only uptempo song. They had several . One being even faster called," Smile", in which, was another Hit for them and " Boogie Wonderland" with Earth, Wind, & Fire. Singing is a gift, but, it doesn't always mean, you are ready for the stage as of yet. It takes hard work in learning how to correctly sing from the diaphragm and not your throat. Learning how to project your voice. Learning how to breathe before one note is produced and learning the different vocal dynamics to sing certain types of songs in ballards, med tempo and up-tempo songs. Most vocal training from those times, was in classical music. It is the standard art of correctly singing. That is what majority of all great singers from the 1950's, '60's, '70's, '80's and early '90's were accustomed to doing. So when they did lip sync, it wasn't because they couldn't sing the song live. To the contrary, it was done for the expedience of time management in doing a television show that only gave you three(3) minutes to perform. Patti Labelle's group LaBelle rarely ever lip synched on any of the shows they were on. They have always performed live and their songs were harder to sing because their songs were faster and had even more of a Gospel sound than any other female groups for the exception the group First Choice , in whom, all their songs were up - tempo, but not as vocally challenging as The Emotions or LaBelle's.
@@Calvin375 This performance of the Emotions it sounds like they’re struggling with the notes and the singing is in their head notes. To me this performance isn’t that great.
@@adrina911 They were actually belting in their chest. Although, Jeanette does more head notes than the other sisters. Wanda definitely belts the middle part in her chest on this song. Sheila who is doing the higher notes might do a mixed voice sound from this performance. But, I have heard her belt notes this high and higher.
Pure feminine soul. Untainted by the exaggerated sexuality of today- this performance could be given in Church or heaven. One of my top 10 favorites of all time.
Just a tad too fast in beat. Can’t understand how these bands can’t remember the original beat when they start the song. Must be down to the drummer. Still an amazing song, even today in 2024!
One of my favorite classics ever ❤️❤️❤️
Dam,, and they all look just alike!!!
hot live performance, ladies ... rhythm section is deep in it ... love it

I was talking to my girlfriend about it, nice comment.
It is hard to play a song like this at original tempo , it has so much energy on it.

fabulosities always. I wrote a fan letter years ago, very rare for me .I actually mailed it. Wanda is the bomb ! ♥️🪇👍🏽
