Lol...ck (and rufus) were awesome and extremely talented. She pretty was a lot of younger man's dreams growing up in the 70s. Wish they would've played more
Flawless beauty that excudes from the inside out, and her voice.. her natural hair, the way she feels the music with her dance.. This is the real music.
She absolutely mesmerizing on that stage. Almost hypnotic. And her voice is like that of an angel. It can be powerful and commanding and then it can be soft and gentle.
Chaka Khan can "SANG". She reached those octave ranges like no other. I have always said that Chaka Khan was/is probably the best singer from the ol' school. And trust me, we had some baadd Black female singers. (i.e.) Aretha, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Natalie Cole, and later Whitney Houston; to name a few. Plus Chaka Khan was sexy and the men used to go crazy over her.
Chaka Khan was then and is still one of the best singers of our time - like it or not! Some one commented on whether or not she was lip syncing - she was and the reason for not seeing background singers live or taped, is because Chaka did her own background singing, thats why she was then and is now one of the best singers of our time, everybody cannot sing both the lead & background believe me, I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!
This song was on the charts when I was 13. I'm 49 now; where has the time gone? I can remember going to Maui and standing on the lava rocks, watching the water crash on those rocks, through my toes, and hearing this song in my head. I looked at the island of Molokai across the water. What memories! Thank you, Chaka Khan.
I'm 66 in 2023. Grooved to soul since 1969. The bands I was in wanted to play such things as "Smoke on the Water", "Sister Golden Hair", "Frankenstein", and Jerry Lewis tunes. Later jazz with a funk twist even with tunes going back to the 1930's. I want to dance if I'm not playing. Chaka A+++.
Dem dudes from Rufus were sick with the musical arrangements & the writing!! We all know Chaka is one of the greatest that ever did it!! These artists of today don't know how to sing with passion & delivery!!
There have been so many great female singers who sang the heck out of a slow jam. The Late Great Aretha Pattie Gladys Natalie Denice Williams Mary J Stephanie Mills The Late Great Whitney Houston The Boss Beyoncé and the list goes on with greatness. I think after all these years Chaka still got the crown for Sweet Thing
Agreed. I think it's because this is what we used to call a "bump and grind" song. Not too many female singers had those that were big hits. Maybe Betty Wright with "Tonight Is the Night" or Jocelyn Edwards of Mothers Finest with "Changes", Teena Marie's "Portuguese Love" come to mind and one or two others. Of course, none of the others had a killer Funk unit like Rufus. I suspect that last part is the key.
I met her once, at the funeral of a mutual friend. Shes truly like 4 feet tall!! Amazing how that big wonderful voice can come from such a tiny package!
@Dame Taylor Tyler Yeah, you're right about wiki..They get it twisted. I'll stop believing 'em. Also, I'll thumbs up your comment since you did 😄 be blessed!
No homo but chaka body is banging plus her voice. This is the true definition of a singer, you can tell there was no struggle in her voice she's a natural born singer.
🔥 *EVERYone* who contributed to this song performed on an incomparable level! 👏🏽 That’s what makes this a bona fide classic. The _entire_ band made magic. • Chaka Khan - lead vocals 🎤✍🏽 • Tony Maiden, who wrote the song with Khan - guitar & backing vocals 🎸🎤✍🏽 • Bobby Watson - bass & backing vocals 🎸🎤 • Kevin Murphy - keyboards 🎹 • André Fischer - drums 🥁
I sooo miss the music of yesterday. Damn, Can we get it back? When real music was talking about something. So, glad I grew up on this music. I remember cleaning up the house on a Saturday and bumping Rufus and Chaka. Good Ol Days! LOL
On this day in 1975 {December 12th} Rufus, featuring Chaka Khan, performed "Sweet Thing" on the late night weekly NBC-TV musical variety program, 'The Midnight Special"... A little over two weeks later on December 28th "Sweet Thing" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #82, thirteen weeks later it would peak at #5 {for 1 week} and it spent twenty one weeks on the Top 100... And on February 15th, 1976 it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... Between 1973 and 1984 the group had twenty-five records on the Hot R&B Singles chart, twelve made the Top 10 with five reaching #1, besides "Sweet Thing", their four other #1 records were "You Got Love" for 1 week in 1974, "At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up)" for 2 weeks in 1977, "Do You Love What You Feel" for 3 weeks in 1979, and "Ain't Nobody" for 1 week in 1983... In addition, they had two records peak at #3, "Tell Me Something Good" {1974} and "Hollywood" {1977}... May Don Cornelius {1936 - 2012} R.I.P.
Takes be back to my childhood, lower ninth ward of new orleans. My dad would block the street off and we would have a block party. Dancing and having a good time to this song and music like it...
It’s just so amazing cause this voice just does not match her body & she sings this song with little to no effort. Love the fact that she’s literally in her element & feeling every note in her bones 🤤
Chaka khan would appear in Jet Magazine on occasions during my boyhood. My Brother and I would fight over who would get to view the photos first. I have literally been listening to this woman's voice for over 40 years.
I blasted this tune at my folks place when I was 10, and still do 50 years later. Miss Khan, the Empess of FUNK kickin it and diggin it. Thanks, eh ✌️🎗️⚓
Trust me when I say some people who were kids when this song came out say the same thing; they would be in their late 30's early 40's now. Personally I like the both of them I was either 8/9 when this came out depending on what month it hit the airwaves.
@@richardcharney1559 I am white and middle aged; when I grew up.I listened to nothing but black R&B, funk and soul. Would not listen to any white people music, LOL. Unfortunately with the advent of rap, there's very few black singers I've been able to enjoy since the early 80s.
O.G. here! Yeah, I saw this on Soulllllllllll Train but Rufus/her busted out with 'Tell Me Something Good' first on radio. We didn't know who she was or what she looked like at first. Verrrrrry pleasantly surprised though, I tell ya!
I bet Chaka had to beat the guys off her. She was gorgeous. Still a mature beautiful woman. Women's beauty changes over the years with wisdom. That girl had some hair too. She and Selena could have sold some bustiers!🤣🤣
Nothing today compare to when it was for love n money was next. Gotta bring luv back ,these boys don't even open open a door for a woman,Chaka set soul uk she .ent every word cuz u felt it,God bless all souls, especially the beatiful
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 crazy crush as a child. Like a lil ass kid. I knew this was not a regular woman. And to this day, l go after women who have her aesthetic features.
While singing Sweet Thing... Chaka Khan comes to the edge of the stage and sits down right in front of me...she points at me, with her finger calling me to her, while she is singing ..puts her arms around me pulls me into her, and then gives me the "Big Wet Kiss" right on my cheek... we were in the 11th grade high school when Chaka Khan appeared at a New Jersey club called the Scene Disco in 1973. We all went down to the Scene Disco in South Jersey... we all had to get the fake IDs to get in...
Shes all natural look at her perfect shape! and her beautiful smile.lips fo dayz

Who ever at Rolling Stone Magazine thinks that Mary J. Blige is a better singer than chaka Khan needs to get fired
Child please, that’s a laugh. 😂
Amen, in capital letters.😂😂😂😂😂
Exactly!
Mary who???😒😒
The objective is to undermine Black/African American culture introducing lower standards hence.
Lol...ck (and rufus) were awesome and extremely talented. She pretty was a lot of younger man's dreams growing up in the 70s. Wish they would've played more
I’m so glad I grew up with this music.

So much fun, just high on the music
Me too. I loved Rufus!! And of course, Chaka. The 70's were so smooth.
Black is still beautiful in 2024✊🏿
I'll never get tired of this song, brings back beautiful memories
Flawless beauty that excudes from the inside out, and her voice.. her natural hair, the way she feels the music with her dance.. This is the real music.
She absolutely mesmerizing on that stage. Almost hypnotic. And her voice is like that of an angel. It can be powerful and commanding and then it can be soft and gentle.
That's why she's the one and only Chaka Khan. 😊
This was a smooth ass groove
Yes and played on a nice Rickenbacker 4001.
One of my fave songs of all time. Still as good as it was decades ago. Classic
Wow she wrote that song.. People are really sleeping on Chaka

Most did that on soul train, that's no big thing
❤ Beautful!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL
I preferred the songs to be the original studio recordings anyways.
Gorgeous voice, gorgeous face, gorgeous body, and I'm a woman and I think she's one of the sexiest singers ever.
I don't know about the gorgeous face. Just keeping it Tesla.😅😅😅😅😅
@@lisakirk2796That’s your opinion and it’s not worth much. Beautiful face and smile. In perfect shape and naturally gorgeous.
As a little boy in the seventies, she and Gladys knight made me fall madly in love with black women.

Sexy-ass song. Even now. These young ones need to know what soul, sexy, love is.
This song is about being a side chick
It’s just so amazing cause this voice just does not match her body & she sings this song with little to no effort. Love the fact that she’s literally in her element & feeling every note in her bones 🤤
I think that it helps that Chaka wrote Sweet Thing alongside her band mate Tony Maiden.
She was perfect as a woman can be here physically and vocally
