Layne’s voice is a huge part of their sound. It was real. He was such a talented guy, and the dope took him down. His voice and lyrics reflected where he was at the time.

Your Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland and Layne Staley are spot on.
I also like your attention to engineering. The AIC version is much heavier on reverb, giving it this darker dungeon sound, but this drier sound sound much more like Soundgarden Super unknown era. I think it might have also been the time/era. A lot of the grunge artists records from 1992/1993 and before have lots of reverb sound to them. I guess that was more the style back then coming out of the 80s whether it was Michael Jackson or arena rock production had that washy sound, where as later records from those grunge groups started to drop it in favor of warmer sounds and production. So I actually appreciate the playing, engineering changes too to really make it a different version.

Same thing I was going to say man, he really nailed changing the melody to something like what Chris would have done. This is going far beyond just doing of cover of a song with just a different singing style, this is a *full* treatment on the song and I don't think a lot of people will fully appreciate the level of musicianship here.

OMG Chris Cornell is my fave singer to come out of the Seattle sound era and i was so sad when he passed RIP...I think you are so incredible, and i know you get a lot of messages but if you see this i wanted to know if it is super difficult to sing these songs and sings them so differently than they were originally done? Like this was a huge song and i just wonder how hard it was to go against the grain so to speak with constantly having to change the melody with a song that is so well known like you have to constantly tell your brain NO NO NO don't sing it like AIC sing it like Chris would have. Super talented, love your videos!!

I expected this to suck. It doesn’t. Now obviously soundgarden would have done it a lot better, but they aren’t soundgarden and don’t claim to be. Their version of the soundgarden style is really close. Very respectable.

I gotta great one for Layne and Chris. Try Layne doing my favorite Chris Cornell song ❤Steel Rain❤ ☺✌ Please keep the whole song even in sound and quality. This one was great but then it changed to goo low in volume and very distorted and then back up again. Maybe TH-cam did it or when you did a guitar performance. It's best to just do the one recording so your hard work stays in full high quality. 🙂👍

I did not see that coming. You just made one of my favorite songs of all time, better. I usually hate covers of this song because people always mess up the last 30 seconds, which is the best part of the song. I'm truly blown away by how accurate that was and somehow on par with the original. You may have actually made the versus less boring, and the chord progression you use on the chorus is better than the original. Excellent work friend.

    OMG!
"if Dirt was performed by 12 bands", when I heard the performance in the Soundgarden style at the end, I thought - Steve drew a clear parallel! I explain you - the song "Would" is an ode to Chris Cornell's friend Andrew Wood (one of the best grunge vocalists). And then Steve releases the full version of "Would" performed by Soundgarden. I was shocked. I got a complete picture - as if Chris in an alternate universe wrote this song in honor of Andrew, because he could not get away from this tragedy!
Thank you for this unique cover. Everything was done exactly.
