Exactly. All four bands were so great in their own way, there really is no way to pin point in one being better than the other. And this was the grunge era, it's easy to take 4 of the top 10 bands and showcase hit riffs from a handful of songs that made them millions. There were so many other groups not nearly as popular who could shred just as good. The early 90's was like baseball, only a few made it to the show, but the farm system was loaded with talent, just no room on the roster for them

Charlotte, What Black Sabbath song sounds like the day I tried to live? What Led Zeppelin song sounds like Superunknown or ty Cobb? There’s no doubt that soindgarden was influenced by zep and sabbath but to say that they don’t have a unique sound is just not true. As someone steeped in early blues I have a hard time seeing sabbath and zep as having an original sound. Don’t get me wrong, the wizard is definitely in my top five favorite songs of all time and both bands show up on any play list I make but neither of them are as musically original as soundgaden. Chris Cornell is an underrated member of this movement and there are several reasons for this, among them: He was the pathfinder of Grunge SOUNDGARDEN was the first band to have a signature and to sort of authenticate this term grunge that didn't even exist before. He formed TEMPLE OF THE DOG which was a tribute to Andy (another underrated grunge band due to his early death) and with Eddie Vedder, which after this band, allowed the formation of Pearl Jam. And perhaps the most underrated reason of all is that Nirvana put grunge on the rise from SEATLLE but there were bands with better and much richer content than them.
Cornell was more poetic than the Beatles, heavier than Black Sabbah and with a vocal timbre compared to Freddie Mercury. He was a musician with a combination of excellent vocal, melodic and artistic quality.

No one wins this..... They're impossible to compare. All had great riffs, all had different styles, despite the unfair grunge moniker. If you prefer a more classic rock sound it's obviously Pearl jam, if you prefer a more sludgy and progressive metal mix it's gonna be Soundgarden, if you prefer a more simplistic punk style approach with all the catchiness of fly paper, it's gonna be Nirvana, if you prefer a more traditional metal approach, crossed with a little blues, classic rock, and sludge it's going to be chains

The artwork on the CD is really nice though and the album is the only cardboard CD case I have in my current collection. But with the music itself. Pretty must about 3/4 of the album has song type changes. Blew and Floyd the Barber are sluge rock tracks, About A Girl is a Beatles type love balled. And after that we explore thrash, slow dissonance, earworm riffs and a sort of middle eastern thing in Love Buzz that kinda sounds out of place but is still good nonetheless. But yeah other than like the last 3 tracks its a weak 8 strong 9 out of 10, with them its like a medium 8 medium 9 thing. 8.5/10 I guess you could say.

Jerry found a way to create riffs that were musically interesting, dark and heavy, but also CATCHY as hell. And the diversity in his playing style is incredible. Yea. He plays guitar for it during Alice in chains unplugged in new York (fun fact: some of the guys in metallica went to see the show... It was around the time in the 90s when metallica got their hair cuts short, so Mike , Alice in chains bassist wrote "friends don't let friends get haircuts" on his bass). You can tell Layne is not really a guitar player because of the way he holds the guitar pick with his wrist so stiff lol. Always made me smile. But I love his voice. One of my favorites. Rip

    • @vancedstone

@@peaceiszen1466 Chris Cornell is a more skillful singer but Layne has a extremely unique voice that sounds like anger and pain and I could see why someone would say it sounds lazy but I believe its on purpose. When he sing in his songs like love, hate his voice sounds like its hanging by its feet. It is so uneasy and disturbing. I could understand why people would think his style is weak but its really made to sound broken, chocked and dying because that's what his music is about. Dying and pain. Love and hate. I do stand by the argument that Cornell was a more skilled and exiting voice but that's not what Layne sang for. Saying that Layne still was pretty skilled with his rare vocal range.

Finn Ravnas oh Layne totally had great range, I just get kinda bored listening to him sing. I understand that it’s a stylistic thing. AIC as a whole has a very doom/stoner vibe to it, but it doesn’t intrigue me in my opinion, but I can still appreciate that he’s a great vocalist. Thanks for not just immediately bashing and instead making a legitimate point without shooting down my opinion.

@@TheStepmonkey How is Alice in Chains more "iconic" than Nirvana? You can like Alice in Chains more, that's just a matter of taste. But objectively speaking, Nirvana is the most iconic rock band of the 90s, without question.
Fans of the era would have recognized any of the first songs played. But only one song didn't need a title and most people today would still know the name. If we're honest with ourselves, we all know what song I'm talking about.

I think its coming but now it the way we all want it to be tbh. I gonna happen through hip-hop. it's going through a phase I would say is close to punk and glam metal in the rock world. it's not far behind before we see a grunge influenced movement in that genre.
lyrics will become darker. realistic and honest. beats will somewhat revert to how it was in the 80s and 90s. Alot of experimental elements.
But, it can come like this too if we are lucky. Grunge is becoming popular again through Gen-Z, we can see it in the fashion and how we think. If a rock band breaks through with heavy grunge Influence I can see it happening that way too.
