Whats this human mania with ranking things? Can't we just enjoy what these remarkable artists have to offer? I'm 52 now, and have been listening to Dylan & Young since I was in my teens. My life would have been diminished with the absence of either one. Peace out.
Well said, mate. Art and feelings aren't a competition. To be honest, neither should life be. We should just be grateful that there are many great artists who have created the most incredible beauty for us all to enjoy. Who's the greatest artist of them all? Who cares?
Neil Young has epilepsy and has said he is fortunate to never have had an attack while on stage and performing. The fact that he openly talks about his epilepsy has given others with that disease room to be more open about their own epilepsy. That's a gift that comes from living your life in public.
It does not surprise me has not had a sz on stage though, such a unique problem to each person or brain and even then is subject to change over time and at any time, have thought it would be interesting to know his sz. history? because a common shared problem with szs is how sensitive to sound "we" can be, almost funny if I am postictal the sound of his voice singing would be obnoxious to me ,at least for that day :) but the next if I were reading some of his lyrics I might also cry:) am sure him or someone with a sz. disorder would understand that and find it funny:) "Peace Takes Practice" Keep Rockin . I think Neil probably really hated Bob Dylan tbh.. I Mean, Dylan was really a very cocky, arrogant and egotistical person ... However, NO ONE could deny Bob Dylan's writing ability.. and his unique voice.. he wasn't the greatest singer and his guitar skills were pretty average.. bnut his song writing skills were.. like no otheR!!!!
Dylan is a fraud,even more so than Young.He is no guitarist, has the voice of a sick man who smokes way too much,that is for sure.He bought most of the lyrics from down and out beat poets in the early 60's in lower Manhattan,where he went after getting out of Minnesota.He was smart,I'll give him that.BUT,They were all dead by 1988,and the well ran dry around the time 'No use jivin,no use jokin,everything is broken' came out.Thats pretty obvious too.
Dylan's acoustic guitar work on his early albums had a really nice jazzy sort of looseness to its shifty rhythm changes from line to line that worked really well with the flavors of material he was doing then. Stones had that great line in their homage to Angela Davis on Exile On Main Street -- "the judge he gonna judge her / for all that he's worth". Comments in this set of replies to +dictater2 (like many comments) say more about the worth of the judges' judgments than they do abt Bob or Neil. What a wonderful honor to us to hear a gifted Neil Young talk with articulate reserve about the genius in a Bob Dylan song. “it passes thru you. You do not own it.” Bruce Piasecki says-“thanks for the sweet comment neil! And your beat goes on”
Notice Neil doesn't give the standard "I wouldn't compare myself to ____" response. He says instead that you can't claim credit for your creativity, you don't own it, which to me is the honest answer of a true artist.
One of the best moments in my life was when Me, my dad and my uncle went for a countryside-joy-ride on my uncle's ride. We started very early in the morning we went over hills & a mountain there were incredible views and we saw the sun set while listening to Niel & Bob songs. I never really heard neither but that moment really brought me into a different world, it made me forget all my problems. and everytime I hear HEART OF GOLD by neil It makes me relaxed and makes me remember that nice time.
Their lyric poetry is different, their individual approach to guitar and even harmonica is different. Nothing really to compare except for them being fantastic artists.
Ya, it's complicated. This "thing" grabs you for a moment and hopefully you have the skill to get it all down on paper. Because it's pretty damn hard to revisit. Lightening does strike with some people plenty of times. These people are our hero's
It's different for everyone I suppose. Harvest was my introduction to Neil. As a 14 year old kid, he gave me emotional sustenance from the first notes of Out On The Weekend to last fade out of Words. In a world that felt flat and empty, full of meanness and unnecessary cruelty, his music moved me and made me feel real and understood. I love Bob Dylan's music. Probably listened to more Bob albums (so damn many) than Neil. So much power, but he never touches the emotional depth that Neil Young does. God bless them both! I'm grateful!
Neil Young's impact on music isn't close to comparable to Bob Dylan. Dylan also has made triple the albums and original Music than Young. Dylan's albums were widely more popular and sent concise messages in each song. Dylan is still winning awards. Has never started a beef with Lyrnyrd Skynrd and then proceeded to not defend his opinion. Neil Young, to me, was Dylan rip off who never really tried to be anything more than that.

Music is subjective. Not better or worse. Just different. I do think that there are certain artists at particular, critical times in history, who change the game and have incredible cultural impact. Dylan is a poet. Blowin' in the Wind is as relevant today as it was almost 60 years ago. I think Neil, to a lesser degree, has that quality and impact. Southern Man is as relevant today as it was in 1970.
NOT ! go see "Bob Dylan:Odds and Ends" currently on NETFLIX. @ the 12 minute mark Dylan's 1st manager reveals, as I have known for 30+ years, that Dylan did not write most or just about all of the songs that made him so famous in the 1960's.Ditto for NY, frauds/BS Artists , the both of 'em.

Im learning seven curses right now and thinking, dylan must of had a ghost guitarist write the guitar part for him, this is hard, and i never seen him play it live.

Great great interview. I appreciate how we can find our own talents through our own hearts. Neil's way of showing this is in pure form. A great great composer and singer.
Dylan said it was magic and Neil says it comes into you and goes and Joni said it was the Muse...all three said it doesn't come from you; you can't strive for it on your own; and all you can do is be ready when if and when it does come...There is modesty there, and perhaps wisdom, as well.
So when I hear him play, it pours me right into a happy mood slot and makes me feel life is so good, it's a real shot to listen to both Neil & Bob two giants !!

I could be wrong- and I'm a fan of both Neil and Bob- but I think he made that story up, or at least exaggerated it. Just seemed like he was looking to say that Bob's music is timeless (and it is) and needed an example, so he made one up. Doesn't matter I guess.

IMO the most influential songwriters of the 1960's in chronological order are Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Lennon/McCartney, and the Bronx genius Laura Nyro. If you don't know who Nyro is, see the youtube Nyro raves by Todd Rundgren, Elton John/Elvis Costello, Alice Cooper, Sara Bareilles. When the Bobster met Nyro at a Columbia party, the first thing he said to her was "I love what you do'. Nyro was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012. She is considered an artists artist, and her industry fans cross all genres from Leonard Bernstein to Miles Davis, Stephen Sondheim, to the many rap artists that have sampled her, even Kanye West.
There are several interesting and noteworthy correlations between Dylan and Young: First, they are both masterful lyric writers, presenting powerful prose in the context of a song that touches the hearts and souls of a diverse audience. They both also reached out and expanded their musical genres beyond their labels attached to them by fans and critics alike.
Neil and Bob are equally amazing!! There are so many artists out there that are very talented. So it's really hard to compare them to each other! I loved so many songs from the 1950's through the end of the 1990's! So many awesome, talented bands/singers. I couldn't begin to compare them or even name them all. After 2000, it seems the music took a turn for the worst! With the exception of a couple songs here and there. But the best music came from 1953 or so, through about 2000. My opinion, of course!
Bob is Bob, Neil is Neil. They are both great in their own craft. No comparison is needed. Thanks to both of them for expressing the human condition so well! Oh and Leonard Cohen too, without a doubt!

@@SteelStringThing I would tend to agree. But Bob Dylan knows the art of captivating people's minds. Joni Mitchell is a loner. You are either a great fan of hers or don't know her. Bob's audience base is huge. But that doesn't take away anything from Joni Mitchell. Neil Young is more of a popular folk type and, despite being a great musician in his own right, does not come even close to Dylan or Mitchell. Among other great lyricists, I can name Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens, Lennon-McCartney, Sixto Rodriguez, Gordon Lightfoot, etc.
"Like a Rolling Stone" and Kerouac's "On the Road" inspired me to travel most of my life. Wandering hitchhiker as a young man, travelling salesman for many years. Looking for that beautiful view over the next hill.
Let's not forget Phil Ochs, a contemporary of Dylan's. At his 2013 Bridge Concert Dylan sang a song by Phil Ochs called ,Changes. He spoke about Phil Ochs and called him one the greatest poets and songwriters EVER. Phil is just so overlooked. It was good to hear Neil say that because I love and truly respect Neil and for him to recognize one of the most overlooked artists of our time just made my day.

You're expecting him to mention Joni Mitchell, but then if he names her and NOT Paul Simon, Ray Daviess, Pete Townshend, etc. then he potentially gets in trouble for not doing so. As a side note, Charlie Rose is not very good at interviewing musicians....that's my experience.

Have always favored singers/songwriters - besides Bob and Neil, I admire Leon Russell (Song for You/Magic Mirror), Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen-all so very talented, they have brought enjoyment for decades!
As an amateur musician, i know what is talking about. I dont know where songs come from, but they come to me in strangest times and in a row. I was walking in the park yesterday, when i suddenly got this melody in my head that sounded perfect to me. Then, i went home and recorded it. It was very quick. It was like being possessed and making art of any kind is trying to communicate with God (you can call it whatever you want). I believe in that powerful energy and it is kind of magical. I believe the greatest works of art have some kind of spiritual or metaphysical appeal to it.
Teresa Gomes ...yes teresa! absolutly! in thought, we birth action. talent is a supreme gift of god, and something each and every single one of us possess! that we need to get that out there- a powerful urge to create, so much so, it over takes us until we finish it, is that of god- placing something on the bare table of our soul. he then gently will nudge us, remind us, inform us , direct us to its intireity. without art, imagination and escapism, us humans would go nuts for sure!
Who I would put up there with Bob Dylan and Neil Young is Van Morrison. He has written and performed such great music for many, many years. If you've never heard "When the leaves come falling down", "Sweet Thing", "A Sense of Wonder", Contemplation Rose" and many more then you are missing out on fantastic music.
Dylan's early work was incredible. His concert perfomances vary from amazing to very lackluster. That said; we owe Bob the homage of being among the finest of his generation and he know doubt influenced countless other renowned musicians. I would give anything to see Neil Young do a solo acoustic tour with Jackson Browne in a four hour concert setting!!!😃

for some reason when neil asks "Who else would I put up there?" hes seems like such a regular guy that i come in contact so often and it makes me feel like im there interviewing him and thinking "Wow i cant believe Neil Young is asking me something!!!!!"

the absolute lack of understanding of what neil is saying by the interviewer is intriguing. unlike most "stoners or rockers" ( the label ill use) neil isnt speaking in tounges or absolute nonsense, rather with a sense of unknowing profundity. for bob no longer knows the man who wrote those songs. so much can be pulled out , espcially from the ethos of that particular statement.

its an admission the he paid someone to write song(s), or he bought a poem/song from someone.Comedians have joke-writers, Film-Studio's have script writers, Musicians have song-writers, all of whom never get any credit for their work. The credit is in the single paychek they get. Gene Simmons is famous for this, sez Gene "I have an audience that will pay for this, you DON'T !", and so $300 for a song is not unheard of. IN FACT, its so common you might be shocked to learn that some of these guys did not write anything.

Yeah I agree.. I love Neil Young.. started playing his songs when I first picked up the guitar in the 80's but every country has their version of Bob Dylan (You won't hear anyone calling Bob Dylan "America's Neil Young".. Dylan leads the pack.

On the other hand, Neil's songs are ageless, maybe because his lyrics are written in such a personal way. I still found many of songs deeply connected to me. "Thrashers" is currently my favorite.
I'm always struck by how almost every artist/pop-star has ready answers to all of those "who?" questions; they don't even have to think - the names come flying out. It's rare to hear one say, in essence, "I don't know", as Neil does here ("I'm absent"). Similarly, I heard Leonard Cohen say once in an interview, "I try not to have opinions".
Neil is the Canadian branch of my mother's family! (Although they don't know it)Just like Neil they all played numerous instruments. When my mother saw Neil's photos in his 60's she gasped and said oh my god it's my brother! She is in her 90's now and plays accordion, piano and autoharp while still writing songs at her age. She never learned how to write music but it just came natural.I saw the same likeness and I'm happy for Neil and I like his girl friend,LOL! I always liked his lyrics and music since the early 60's.Maybe it's the north country that makes Neil and Bobby see things similarly. I will miss both of them and myself soon I guess..LOL........What a long beautiful strange trip it's been.........

Neil always says refreshing things that come from "outside the box" in interviews. He makes a bland interviewer's questions sound good because of his answers. Some people on here think he's odd, but his statements make perfect sense to me, so I guess I'm odd too.
Well, he is primarily creative. So he doesn’t use prepared statements and he trusts the answers that come to him in process. I love that about him. He’s not odd to me at all!

Great to hear him talk..I was a Neil Young fan at 16..30 something years ago . I couldn't post on the "Like a hurricane" song sight but I love the **** out of that song. Chances are, as time has revealed that if someone is from Canada I seem to gravitate to them...it's not on purpose..it's just what it is. Canadian music is special to me..Kate USA
Its refreshing to hear him not overthinking songwriting. You say things and feel things at one age and then things are different as you get older, obviously 😁 no need to get deep about it. It doesn't mean the words are any less resonant or true.
At the top of his form NO ONE can touch Dylan. Not even close. For example, can you imagine Neil or Joni or ANYONE else writing "Changing Of The Guard?"
Ritchie C, I could say I agree but in fact, almost any song from "harvest" can compete the bests of Dylan. and some other artists like mark Knopfler (telegraph road, brothers in arms)

McCartney/Lennon and Brian WIlson top him easy. Dylan's great, his a master in his own right, but he's no amazing songwriter. He has his style, but he stays always close to it, he never gets out of his comfort zone when writing. When compared to the likes of McCartney and Wilson who don't even really have a comfort zone because they can write pretty much anything and make it sound effortless, he doesn't make the stand. Keep in mind I love Dylan's work, he's one of my favourite artists of all time
two of my favorites remember the supper club neil, bob and bruce who. bruce came out with bob and neil and the croud crushed me. what a night, the best, Bob was smileing, I though he must love neil too.

You are not to be compared , because your music and technique come from within what you are, your experiences, your exposure to music that preceded you, and the unique contribution that you can make, and perhaps do make. when you are gone, no other will be you. Just listen, be in this very moment , and enjoy the contribution that others have made, and that is perhaps your gift or passion to build upon - you are as unique as your face.

Neil says "he was in a different place when he wrote those songs" referring to Bob Dylan writing his great stuff of the 60s then more currently saying "it was like magic, writing those songs, not Siegfried & Roy magic but a different kind" and "I couldn't do that anymore". Neil says he understands that situation/process. These guys are such geniuses but they acknowledge that their creations are "other-worldly", not really from themselves. Neil say "you can't own it, it's not really yours, it just comes through you". If you don't believe in G*D then you need to find another explanation for this.

Neil Young has epilepsy and has said he is fortunate to never have had an attack while on stage and performing. The fact that he openly talks about his epilepsy has given others with that disease room to be more open about their own epilepsy. That's a gift that comes from living your life in public.

It does not surprise me has not had a sz on stage though, such a unique problem to each person or brain and even then is subject to change over time and at any time, have thought it would be interesting to know his sz. history? because a common shared problem with szs is how sensitive to sound "we" can be, almost funny if I am postictal the sound of his voice singing would be obnoxious to me ,at least for that day :) but the next if I were reading some of his lyrics I might also cry:) am sure him or someone with a sz. disorder would understand that and find it funny:) "Peace Takes Practice" Keep Rockin . Dylan is a fraud,even more so than Young.He is no guitarist, has the voice of a sick man who smokes way too much,that is for sure.He bought most of the lyrics from down and out beat poets in the early 60's in lower Manhattan,where he went after getting out of Minnesota.He was smart,I'll give him that.BUT,They were all dead by 1988,and the well ran dry around the time 'No use jivin,no use jokin,everything is broken' came out.Thats pretty obvious too.
Dylan's acoustic guitar work on his early albums had a really nice jazzy sort of looseness to its shifty rhythm changes from line to line that worked really well with the flavors of material he was doing then.
Stones had that great line in their homage to Angela Davis on Exile On Main Street -- "the judge he gonna judge her / for all that he's worth". Comments in this set of replies to +dictater2 (like many comments) say more about the worth of the judges' judgments than they do abt Bob or Neil. Notice Neil doesn't give the standard "I wouldn't compare myself to ____" response. He says instead that you can't claim credit for your creativity, you don't own it, which to me is the honest answer of a true artist.

I love listening to Bob and Neil because it makes me realise i aint crazy!

One of the best moments in my life was when Me, my dad and my uncle went for a countryside-joy-ride on my uncle's ride. We started very early in the morning we went over hills & a mountain there were incredible views and we saw the sun set while listening to Niel & Bob songs. I never really heard neither but that moment really brought me into a different world, it made me forget all my problems. and everytime I hear HEART OF GOLD by neil It makes me relaxed and makes me remember that nice time.

It's different for everyone I suppose. Harvest was my introduction to Neil. As a 14 year old kid, he gave me emotional sustenance from the first notes of Out On The Weekend to last fade out of Words. In a world that felt flat and empty, full of meanness and unnecessary cruelty, his music moved me and made me feel real and understood. I love Bob Dylan's music. Probably listened to more Bob albums (so damn many) than Neil. So much power, but he never touches the emotional depth that Neil Young does. God bless them both! I'm grateful!

Neil Young's impact on music isn't close to comparable to Bob Dylan. Dylan also has made triple the albums and original Music than Young. Dylan's albums were widely more popular and sent concise messages in each song. Dylan is still winning awards. Has never started a beef with Lyrnyrd Skynrd and then proceeded to not defend his opinion. Neil Young, to me, was Dylan rip off who never really tried to be anything more than that.

Too many people treat music like a competition and by declaring someone their god they elevate themselves to the priesthood.
Music is subjective. Not better or worse. Just different. I do think that there are certain artists at particular, critical times in history, who change the game and have incredible cultural impact. Dylan is a poet. Blowin' in the Wind is as relevant today as it was almost 60 years ago. I think Neil, to a lesser degree, has that quality and impact. Southern Man is as relevant today as it was in 1970.
They were both amazing writers. I'm still amazed at "Old Man" every time I play it or even just hear it.

Neil Young and Bob Dylan are up there on my favorites. Countless timeless classics from their minds, hearts, and diaphragms.
Dylan said it was magic and Neil says it comes into you and goes and Joni said it was the Muse...all three said it doesn't come from you; you can't strive for it on your own; and all you can do is be ready when if and when it does come...There is modesty there, and perhaps wisdom, as well.

IMO the most influential songwriters of the 1960's in chronological order are Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Lennon/McCartney, and the Bronx genius Laura Nyro. If you don't know who Nyro is, see the youtube Nyro raves by Todd Rundgren, Elton John/Elvis Costello, Alice Cooper, Sara Bareilles. When the Bobster met Nyro at a Columbia party, the first thing he said to her was "I love what you do'. Nyro was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012. She is considered an artists artist, and her industry fans cross all genres from Leonard Bernstein to Miles Davis, Stephen Sondheim, to the many rap artists that have sampled her, even Kanye West.
Van Morrison wrote some damn good tunes. Example ... Into the Mystic

Neil and Bob are equally amazing!! There are so many artists out there that are very talented. So it's really hard to compare them to each other! I loved so many songs from the 1950's through the end of the 1990's! So many awesome, talented bands/singers. I couldn't begin to compare them or even name them all. After 2000, it seems the music took a turn for the worst! With the exception of a couple songs here and there. But the best music came from 1953 or so, through about 2000. My opinion, of course!

Let's not forget Phil Ochs, a contemporary of Dylan's. At his 2013 Bridge Concert Dylan sang a song by Phil Ochs called ,Changes. He spoke about Phil Ochs and called him one the greatest poets and songwriters EVER. Phil is just so overlooked. It was good to hear Neil say that because I love and truly respect Neil and for him to recognize one of the most overlooked artists of our time just made my day.
PBS did an American Masters one-hour documentary about Phil Ochs--check it out--he's not forgotten.

As an amateur musician, i know what is talking about. I dont know where songs come from, but they come to me in strangest times and in a row. I was walking in the park yesterday, when i suddenly got this melody in my head that sounded perfect to me. Then, i went home and recorded it. It was very quick. It was like being possessed and making art of any kind is trying to communicate with God (you can call it whatever you want). I believe in that powerful energy and it is kind of magical.
I believe the greatest works of art have some kind of spiritual or metaphysical appeal to it.

Who I would put up there with Bob Dylan and Neil Young is Van Morrison. He has written and performed such great music for many, many years. If you've never heard "When the leaves come falling down", "Sweet Thing", "A Sense of Wonder", Contemplation Rose" and many more then you are missing out on fantastic music.

Dylan's early work was incredible. His concert perfomances vary from amazing to very lackluster. That said; we owe Bob the homage of being among the finest of his generation and he know doubt influenced countless other renowned musicians. I would give anything to see Neil Young do a solo acoustic tour with Jackson Browne in a four hour concert setting!!!😃

the absolute lack of understanding of what neil is saying by the interviewer is intriguing. unlike most "stoners or rockers" ( the label ill use) neil isnt speaking in tounges or absolute nonsense, rather with a sense of unknowing profundity. for bob no longer knows the man who wrote those songs. so much can be pulled out , espcially from the ethos of that particular statement.
unknowing profundity? I believe he knew exactly what he was talking about, there was nothing unknown about it. It is up to us, the listener to understand what he is saying and most of us do not have the brains to get what he is saying.
its an admission the he paid someone to write song(s), or he bought a poem/song from someone.Comedians have joke-writers, Film-Studio's have script writers, Musicians have song-writers, all of whom never get any credit for their work. The credit is in the single paychek they get. Gene Simmons is famous for this, sez Gene "I have an audience that will pay for this, you DON'T !", and so $300 for a song is not unheard of. IN FACT, its so common you might be shocked to learn that some of these guys did not write anything.

On the other hand, Neil's songs are ageless, maybe because his lyrics are written in such a personal way. I still found many of songs deeply connected to me. "Thrashers" is currently my favorite.
Neil is a GENIUS SONGWRITER … and a GREAT & down to earth PERSON
I'm always struck by how almost every artist/pop-star has ready answers to all of those "who?" questions; they don't even have to think - the names come flying out. It's rare to hear one say, in essence, "I don't know", as Neil does here ("I'm absent"). Similarly, I heard Leonard Cohen say once in an interview, "I try not to have opinions".

Neil is the Canadian branch of my mother's family! (Although they don't know it)Just like Neil they all played numerous instruments. When my mother saw Neil's photos in his 60's she gasped and said oh my god it's my brother! She is in her 90's now and plays accordion, piano and autoharp while still writing songs at her age. She never learned how to write music but it just came natural.I saw the same likeness and I'm happy for Neil and I like his girl friend,LOL! I always liked his lyrics and music since the early 60's.Maybe it's the north country that makes Neil and Bobby see things similarly. I will miss both of them and myself soon I guess..LOL........What a long beautiful strange trip it's been.........

Neil always says refreshing things that come from "outside the box" in interviews. He makes a bland interviewer's questions sound good because of his answers.
Some people on here think he's odd, but his statements make perfect sense to me, so I guess I'm odd too.
Well, he is primarily creative. So he doesn’t use prepared statements and he trusts the answers that come to him in process. I love that about him. He’s not odd to me at all!

I think don mclean is definately up there with Neil and bob. He's written some of the most amazing lyrics I've ever heard.

Great to hear him talk..I was a Neil Young fan at 16..30 something years ago . I couldn't post on the "Like a hurricane" song sight but I love the **** out of that song. Chances are, as time has revealed that if someone is from Canada I seem to gravitate to them...it's not on purpose..it's just what it is. Canadian music is special to me..Kate USA

Its refreshing to hear him not overthinking songwriting. You say things and feel things at one age and then things are different as you get older, obviously 😁 no need to get deep about it. It doesn't mean the words are any less resonant or true.

Ritchie C, I could say I agree but in fact, almost any song from "harvest" can compete the bests of Dylan. and some other artists like mark Knopfler (telegraph road, brothers in arms)

McCartney/Lennon and Brian WIlson top him easy. Dylan's great, his a master in his own right, but he's no amazing songwriter. He has his style, but he stays always close to it, he never gets out of his comfort zone when writing.
When compared to the likes of McCartney and Wilson who don't even really have a comfort zone because they can write pretty much anything and make it sound effortless, he doesn't make the stand.
Keep in mind I love Dylan's work, he's one of my favourite artists of all time
Indeed. ALL musicians have their influences. Woody Guthrie played guitar and harmonica and you can hear the influence in Dylan's work.
two of my favorites remember the supper club neil, bob and bruce who. bruce came out with bob and neil and the croud crushed me. what a night, the best, Bob was smileing, I though he must love neil too.

Just listen, be in this very moment , and enjoy the contribution that others have made, and that is perhaps your gift or passion to build upon - you are as unique as your face.

Neil says "he was in a different place when he wrote those songs" referring to Bob Dylan writing his great stuff of the 60s then more currently saying "it was like magic, writing those songs, not Siegfried & Roy magic but a different kind" and "I couldn't do that anymore". Neil says he understands that situation/process. These guys are such geniuses but they acknowledge that their creations are "other-worldly", not really from themselves. Neil say "you can't own it, it's not really yours, it just comes through you".
If you don't believe in G*D then you need to find another explanation for this.

and i'm not religious, just aware. aleister crowley was a major influence on the 60's counterculture, drugs use, a do what thou wilt attitude, and rock and roll in general. there's a way to sell out/prostitute yourself out to demonic energies to get money, fame, recognition, ability to pour out songs. i'm not saying dylan isn't a genius, but he sure wasn't making deals with god. he even said himself that he was tired of people discussing the meaning of his lyrics, his political views, and philosophies. he didn't even feel what he wrote.

B. Smiley Yes I saw that interview 10 years ago. To a true Christian the "commander-in-chief" is God. Plain and simple. You think promising something to God is evil? By your vulgarity it is quite clear you are not of Christ or you would be expressing the fruit of the Spirit, not calling out those who love the Lord with brutal lowlife expressions. All I can tell you is repent, and love Jesus even half as much as Mr. Dylan obviously does and you can still turn your life around.
