      I feel like people are under the impression that Konami is making piles of money by making cards good so that players will pay $100 for one copy.
      It's called a Secondary Market. A company will make a product that people want in limited quantities that can be difficult to obtain, and then the secondary market sells those products at a high mark-up.
      It's the players, influencers, and secondary market sellers that benefit from cards being $100, not Konami. Konami is the one selling packs for $10 each. If they wanted to they could just print out whatever card they wanted to sell to whoever wanted the cards for a low price, but if they did that it would kill the secondary market, and probably a huge part of the Yu-Gi-Oh community.

    • @kaibeh
      @kaibeh 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Konami does benefit they rarity bump cards here so there’s less quantities evident with s:p which is like a $2 card in Japan as a rare and here a $110 secret. The secondary market prices increase the sale of product since people try and pull those chase cards in hopes of getting them for cheaper or selling for profit. Now to your second point where you said a huge part of the game will die if Konami printed cards by themselves and sold them, that would be incorrect I know plenty of people who stick to online because of card prices if Konami sold cards individually the game would actually increase in people wanting to play especially competitively if cards are so easy to get. The secondary market is built off people wanting to buy cards to play the game not a stock market

    Pot cards are a great case for conditional bans. If you have a known powerful consistent card/archetype, you cannot have pots or are limited on the amount.

      You are completely right compared to past formats DM and GX/ Goat and Edison Pot of Prosperity is kind of like the modern day and spiritual version of Pot of Greed because Yu-Gi-Oh has evolved to the point where drawing 2 is just not enough to guaranteed game in most cases whereas getting that 1 to 2 card starter is just better

      @dio8156 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pretty much, there was even a common consensus that Graceful is the better draw card. Because while you don't go +1, you get to dig 3 cards deep and set up your GY. Modern Yugioh isn't really about card advantage anymore, but moreso about key pieces to your strategy being accesible at all times

    Card Tutoring > Raw (But Randomized) Card Economy
    Cards like Terraforming, ROTA, Cynet Mining, etc...are generally stronger than any of the pot cards except for Prosperity even if they lead to either a -1 or neutral, if it means landing key combo pieces or opportunities for game. This is a point highlighted by an earlier APS video and I 100% agree.

    I miss Desires being at three for my TCG Maju deck and Prosperity for my Arcana Knights in Master Duel 😖 I enjoy the trade offs and uniqueness of each and how they each find their place in different strategies. But I don't play super competitively so my opinion is neither here nor there, but I still play by the TCG ban list, so it may urk me when my non competitive decks lose a tool they need to run efficiently because a super competitive deck broke a card... still so butthurt my Mist Valleys got nerfed out of even obscurity by all the GOOD wind decks 🤣

  • @skormfuse

    I like pots over certain other generics because of the many flavours it has, where most decks will have a ideal pot that suits them, I personally like to see pots that could act as side deck options the same type of draw effects but fulfilling it's activation condition based on the opponent maybe with some type of interruption built in.
    like if the opponent is playing a deck that mills you has a pot that triggers in hand or graveyard when your deck gets milled, letting you shuffle cards back into your deck then drawing 2.

    Duality is good for stun decks, tribute-focused decks, or decks that special on your opponents turn(which seems to be often overlooked). I am still not sold on desires. 10 unusable maindeck cards is a heavy cost. The number of times that card has screwed me or has been effectively dead in my hand is unreal. If you get ashed you still pay the cost too.

    I think in masterduel I get the hits alot like the way deck building works there from lack of a side deck and it being a BO1 the decks that can use pot cards getting free consistency sucks and should lose some power somewhat.
    In the tcg I feel as prospy is the one that needs to be banned. The decks that run it aren't running a cost (aside from $$$) but being able to bolster your hand into whatever you need off those six is just absurd as theres no risk like desires of ripping another or extrav banish multiples of a card that can come up but also run the same risk as desires but not allow draw engines in the deck

    Pot cards are fine in most tiers of Yugioh, BUT I find them absurd in top level decks. These decks can consistently search and setup to the point where a pot card is just bait for an interaction. Inconsistent consistency cards is more of the problem but Pot cards do exacerbate the idea that consistency is king.

    Pot of Greed
    Normal Spell
    To activate this card, you must draw it for your normal draw in your Draw Phase, reveal it, and keep it revealed until the start of Main Phase 1. At the start of your Main Phase 1 that same turn, draw 2 cards. You can only apply this effect of "Pot of Greed" once per a turn.

    I use to use bottomless decks a lot back in the day. I have used just about every recycle engine that was possible. It was pretty good back then. But nowadays, techs like that just aren't as good due to the flow of the game. Its more important to run cards to stop your opponent rather than keeping you going unless the cards synergize with your strat. Because every card you play needs to do something relevant. Slapping in a bunch of dig cards with recyclers just cant keep up very well with this fast format. M9st decks I see pot in it already seem to struggle a bit and need the draw power to add value to plays. Averice just isnt good enough to do that if you are using it in a bottomless deck as you may just draw more pots or it gets easily negated. I could see at some point all pot cards will be unlimited at the games current progression rate

    Pot of Prosperity gives an incredible level of consistency to decks, and the decks with a higher overall power level, particularly a higher ceiling, benefit more from this. Pot of Prosperity being at 1 is pretty much single handedly why Kashtira has not completely taken over Masterduel as a tier zero format. I think generic consistency tools like this are bad for the game and serve to gatekeep weaker decks more than it actually helps them compete with a consistency boost.

    Of course Pot of Greed is too strong to actually come back to the game though
    I also think Prosperity is too strong. Being able to choose the extra deck cards that are being banished makes it's cost so much less than extravagance and of course the statement about everything only needing a one card starter means the upside is generally better too. Less cost and better upside that extrav which is already a really good card.

    We need to get rid of the notion that card advantage is everything. Its not. You need to be able to use those cards to advance the game state. Very easily those 2 cards you draw could be garnets or something useless like a second bloss in your opening hand which would be a net negative game position in your hand at that time. Having a second copy of a hard OPT does nothing in advancing your turn 1 game state, could be helpful in turn 2 or 3 but thats not helping me build my board.

    Heres my idea for a pot card:
    Pot of Insanity.
    Effect: Activate only during your main phase 1, you have less life points than your opponent and you only have 3 cards in hand and 1 is a monster, 1 is a spell and 1 is a trap. Also pay all your life points until you have 1000 left, then banish 3 to 9 cards of your choice from your extra deck. Then excavate cards from the top of your deck equal to the number of cards banished and only add 1 of them to your hand and banish the rest. You cannot special summon the turn you activate this, your opponent takes no battle or effect damage this turn, you cannot activate any other card effects or draw or add any cards from deck to hand by card effect for the rest of this turn and during your next standby phase after activating this card, discard 2 cards from your hand.
    Is this convoluted enough to get 1 damn card in your hand guys??

    I think Extrav and Prosp are probably the worst of the bunch in terms of overpowered cards. The others feel balanced and work great in certain decks. There are a lot of in-engine searches with almost every archetype so a pot of prosperity just really gives combo decks overkill. When digging 6 cards in a 35 card deck, you have a really high chance of running into the 3 of combo piece you need. That half damage is kind of a small slap on the wrist compared to something like duality where you can't special summon.
    I think a retrain of prosperity should have a hard removal of a certain thing to balance it. Maybe make it so every card sent to your graveyard is banished instead kind of thing.

    To this day my least popular Yu-Gi-Oh opinion is that Pot Of Greed should be limited. People said for years that Monster Reborn was too broken and too much value, but it's been at one for years and is now searchable with Ra support and no top tier tournament level deck that I've seen runs Monster Reborn. Of course everyone would be running Pot of Greed, but I don't think it would warp the format in the way people say it would. I would even argue that if all Pots were put to one it would create a dynamic and healthy format where everybody figured out what works best for them when it comes to draw power. I say at least bring back Pot Of Greed at one for one format, try it out, and if the world really burns they can just ban it again. 💁🏼

    I think Master Duel is so harsh on the Pot cards with limits is because it's a best of one format where some of the decks have more of an advantage because there is no side boarding. And that advantage can be an uphill battle if you don't have an out in deck to deal with one specific thing.
    But, i think that if the game gets busted enough, all Pot cards can probably at least be at one.
    In no banlist formats, Pot of Greed just isn't used because the slot is better used for something like Droll. Which means there is a point where even Pot of Greed is just not good enough. Where that point exactly is, i have no clue, but there is a point we can get to where PoG can be at one and not be everywhere.
    However, we should leave the card banned because it would ruin the *lore,* and for the people who only get out of bed for the *lore,* they'd be *SAD.* Also, funny banned card go brrrrrr.

    • @glitchmakerygo
      @glitchmakerygo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@1stCallipostle Well, they're cracked in those formats on paper but when everyone plays Droll due the incredibly high power of the format they ain't really doing much. Plus, every deck is pretty much guaranteed to see their combo pieces anyways, using PoG is just Ash bait by then. Sure, they draw two, but why Ash that when you can Ash an actual starter? When people actually start figuring out what to actually do instead of "Pot of Greed is banned for a reason" that's when they stop playing it.
      They play it because it was banned, but compared to singular cards that do more than a simple +1 from a draw two, it looks a lot weaker.
      Graceful Charity however, is a completely different beast of a card. Arguably better than PoG in a lot of decks.
      It takes people who lab out formats like that far more than they should and plenty of play testing with an active community to figure out that PoG might not be the best card to throw in every deck just because. When singular cards that can generate way more advantage are in the format, why play other generic staples? Play the best of the best staples possible that can fit. Pot of Greed just doesn't do enough at a certain point.

    Prosperity lame, battle damage restriction just makes it feel even more important to go first and promotes running staples with little counterplay because if you max out on something like thrust, nibiru, or gamma and reveal 1, it's unlikely for opponent to play into it if they can avoid it. I rather play a format with 3 maxx c than 3 prosp

    Extravagance isn't played into any except stun and most stun decks just play prosperity over it
    Drawing cards is bad unless you're Maxx C cuz of it's wide variance.
