Awwwwwwwe really?!!?!? Does not feel that way when I watch myself but I'm my own worst critic 😂 Thank you so much for the reassurance and for watching!
I have to say as someone who has had a fair few surgeries, anaesthetists are so important and can really make a very stressful and daunting experience so much more bearable. For one of my surgeries, the theatre was delayed due to some hospital issue. I was totally stressed and overwhelmed about the surgery itself, was hungry because I couldn't eat, but was also very incoherent as I'd already been given a sedative...and my anaesthetist was so lovely and supportive. She spent time chatting with me to keep me calm and asked me what I enjoyed doing to distract me whilst I waited....in the hour we were waiting (which felt like 5 minutes for me because I was completely high) I spent most of the time talking about how disappointed I was with how the game of thrones season was going and apparently got very heated. She probably regretted starting that conversation, but it definitely made me feel more at ease lmao. Honestly, a GOAT. SIde note, if you haven't already read it, I highly recommend Emotional Female by Yumiko Kadota- was a really great book and she talked a lot about her experience as a woman in surgery. It was a great read (even though I did have to put it down in frustration at times)
The anaesthetists I saw hands down have the best bedside manner I've ever seen at the hospital. SO awesome to hear that you experience has been nothing but positive and the reassurance you got as a patients was 10/10. You're right it is an incredibly important job. That is SO FUNNY that you got heated about GOT, oh my goodness I could rant about that all day with you. Emotional female is on my list of books! so many of my classmates have read it I'm excited to get stuck into it. I'll message you to chat once i've read it! Once again, thank you so much for watching and I hope you are keeping well
@@AestheticAcademic Honestly it was great, and I totally agree with you regarding bedside manner. Every anaesthetist I've come across has been so thoughtful and considerate, they seem like a great bunch. It was so funny. Luckily for her this was pre season 8...she probably would have had to knock me out earlier if it wasn't 😂 And yes, let me know how you find it! Stay safe 😄
yay she's back!! love it ! and so glad you had time off when you needed and are focusing on taking care of yourself through lockdowns xx and thanks for the amazing and honest insights into med school as always :) we appreciate u!! ❤❤❤
18:30 I went under general anesthesia recently, and right before I went to sleep I started panicking and crying (the anaesthetic nurse comforted me though 🥺). Then, as I was waking up after, I started crying & hyperventilating (panic attack) before I was even conscious. Strange! Interesting! Loved the video btw 😍
I loved this vlog! The conversation on women in surgery made my blood boil. A similar thing happened to me when I went to a research discussion session and a professor started talking to me about how women in medicine need to consider their speciality carefully because they need to make time to raise children. So frustrating! The nerve of some of these people smh BUT great VLOG
Hello beautiful Maddy! Ughhhh so sorry to hear that you experienced this as well! It is very frustrating and we just need to be mindful of not internalising these remarks and stamping this rhetoric out the best we can. Thanks so much for watching and so happy to hear you enjoyed watching
Sucks that we’re in lockdown again! I’m starting my med journey at the moment and it’s great to watch you progress, I really value the insight into anaesthetics because it seems like such an enigma of a career!
Hey lovely! Thanks so much for watching and hope we aren't locked down for too much longer. Are you in first year at the moment? Yes it does seem like an enigma doesn't it! Hope this made it a bit less opaque
I live in Ballarat, in regional vic so we have had our lockdown end now. I hope you're doing as well as you can be with the lockdown extension! Much love! 💜💜
just love, love your content. just curious, but you mentioned on another video that you completely support yourself financially, how do you manage to cope living in Melbourne with full time study? Do you work part-time or have a scholarship? I can imagine med school is expensive... thanks for your videos xx
Hello there lovely! THANK YOU so much. Yes so all through undergrad I was working part time at IKEA (about 20 hours a week) and I also got youth allowance from the government which helped supplement my income and pay rent. At the start of med I quit my job because it wasn't flexible enough and had some money saved up. I still get Ausstudy at the moment and have odd work here and there but it is quite skint to say the least.
HEY!! I have been watching your videos and You are amazing at what you are doing. Keep it up. You made it and I'm really inspired by your hard work. Keep it UP!! And it also gave me hope that I can make it too if I work my best. I do have a question I want to Ask you tho. My Younger Sister Who is a First year Business and IT student came to the realization that she really wants to pursue a career in Medicine. In Australia only 10 Universities allow getting into med via GAMSAT. I just don't know if a business and IT student with a really good GPA and GAMSAT can ever make it into Med? Because in the Course website (for all 10 Uni's including Melbourne) it only says a a Bachelor Degree with a GOOD GPA + GAMSAT + Interview but doesn't Specify what type of Bachelor Degree. I'm worried as she doesn't have a Science Background. Any tips or advice??
omg!! love your video!! are med students allowed to work? i have heard that they arent.. even do they have time in midst of this busy schedule and stuff??
HELLOOOO! yes med students are deffs allowed to work but your uni timetable is ever evolving so you just need to have a work place that is understanding and flexible :) there is enough time though!
15:00 I don't know why people think its true or even ok to say things like that. I would have excused that behavior if it was someone else, but this person is highly educated??? Regardless, we need more women in surgery and facilities/structures to support them when needed, whether people, like that person, agrees to it or not. (Also, LOVE your yt videos :) take care)
Yeah its pretty surprising that this seems like normal day to day conversation. But I'm confident it's on the way out 😍 We just can't let it deter us!! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. Hope you have an awesome day
Omg, ppl have been telling me that I can’t be a surgeon because I am a woman ever since I was at grade school and still can’t convinced me so. (Telling me I’m not physically capable as a man, for god sake I can finish triathlon…..)
number 1 reason you're going to be an amazing surgeon: you are so well spoken!!
Awwwwwwwe really?!!?!? Does not feel that way when I watch myself but I'm my own worst critic 😂 Thank you so much for the reassurance and for watching!
