The reason why we have big malls is that, most people go there for the AC, enjoyment and family time. It is almost like a theme park for us with free entrance fees.

SM's motto is "We Got It All For You" so it has everything for everybody. Their business model is to capture the most important segment of the country: the family. The malls are integrated, almost self-contained community that could stretch for several blocks of shops that cater to every taste. You can practically spend all day inside just hanging out, that's why they're very popular.

Philippine malls are based on the local culture where in each town have a plaza or a town center where in theres a church, the town hall, basketball court or a covered court, playground, food stalls/carts, other shops or just almost everything a person would need.... now a mall is very popular especially its airconditioned because of the hot weather so people could hang out

Ice rink is open all year. It’s detached from the main cluster where the name of the mall is situated. It’s beside the mall arena, where you saw Disney on ice. These structures are still part of the mall though. Weather in PH is dry and wet season, first 6 mos dry, then wet the half of the year. You guys should visit the country, and although traffic is worst and a knuckle-drag in philippines, my country has more to offer for non-locals

What’s more fascinating with the Mall of Asia is that it has more spaces to expand, re-expand and re-expand….. it’s my Go-to-Mall (though it’s so huge it will take you some time to get from one store to another). I just arrived here in the US (Atlanta) and I find the malls here to be equally huge (Lennox, Perimeter and Mall of GA)…..

  • @rhyanjill

Western mall culture died easily with online shopping due to lack of creativity from the people running them. In the Philippines, malls tried to be the all in one plaza so they're pretty much the best places to hang out and socialize. Basically, like any investment, you win by diversifying your portfolio. It also helps that the Philippines is a tropical country so hopping from one place to another when you're trying to have fun is like hell on earth lol. Hence, malls are more preferred by people who just wanna walk around on foot, but without being roasted under the sun.

The arena you saw in the distance was the Mall of Asia (MOA) arena which seats anywhere from 15,000 to 20,000. It is a venue for indoor sporting events like basketball and concerts. The arena where you saw Disney on Ice is different. That was located INSIDE the mall.
Weather here is generally good with the best time to visit being in the latter part of the year into the early part of the following year. March to May (like right now) can be ungodly hot and June to September or October can get very rainy.

Philippine Climate would be Divided into Wet and Dry Season
    Dry Season
    November - April
November to February would be the coldest and driest season peaking at January to February during the Northern Hemisphere winter. Temparature is cool and bearable. High altitude areas could reach as low as 16C during day and 13C at night
March to April (May) would be the hottest and most humid months as Spring is starting on the Northern Hemisphere, it’s our Pseudo-summer season. Blistering Heat and humidity. Temperatures can soar between 37C to 50C. 50C can cause heatstrokes, so for Westerners, beware and don’t enjoy too much under the sun.
    Wet Season
    May - October
May to June would be mix of heat and rainfall. Days are mostly sunny but nights have high probability of rain
July to September lots of rainfall and lots of tropical depressions and typhoons happen during these months
Sept to October climate starts to transition, temperatures are starting to cool but humidity is high as well.
If you’re going to ask me the best months to visit the Philippines as a westerner. Better visit PH around December to March. Weather is more stable, less chance of typhoons to ruin your holiday and it’s cooler. As much as Westerners love the sun, the summer months here in the Philippines is not so good due to Climate Change.

I would suggest to try our breathtaking sceneries, beaches, cities, provinces, delicious delicacies and affordable local food and culture
