The first time I heard about this case was when I watched Bailey Sarian's video a while ago. I thought it was really horrible and he deserves life in prison. But listening to it again it's a difficult one, because Armin said he didn't want to kill anybody and when he said he wanted to leave he let him go, it's not like he kept him prisoner or anything and he actually waited for him to die before he finally killed him. I don't know...... I think he really just wanted to eat somebody but to do that the person has to be dead right?!

Armin should not have spent a single day in jail. They should not sentence a man because the video of the act was so gory and gruesome to watch. It should be about the consenus throughout the act.
The sentencing is more perverse than the actual interaction between these two men.

Side fact, this case was also the basis for a fantastic song by the German band Rammstein called Mein Teil (meaning my tail or my part, also a slang for men's genitalia.) I had no idea until I moved to Germany because I loved the music growing up but didn’t speak German yet.

@@BRATTERSTEIN I had read a book called Cannibal Killers by Peter Haining (really interesting if you like reading about true crime) which detailed Meiwes's case and it was always interesting to me, but it wasn’t until I started learning German that I realized the song was about him and was shocked lol.

Hello from Germany.  I´ve been watching your videos for a few weeks now and I was really surprised that you talked about a case from Germany. I like how you try to get all the facts about the cases and that you don’t just comment on them but also say how you think that things were. You can contact me if you need help to translate something from German to English in another case. (don’t get me wrong the cases are frightening and often disgusting)
To the new law in Germany: not everybody is allowed to “ ask for suicide”, only the sick ones without change of healing or the ones who don’t want to suffer long until they die can “ask for it”. You can´t ask someone to kill you, you can only ask somebody to be by your side but he or she is not allowed to kill you or give the deadly ”medicine”. The person who wants to die to have to take the deadly medicine by him/herself. Also, the person by your side has to do it altruistic (I hope you understand what I mean). So criminals will not be affected by this new law.
If someone wants to die and you do it for him he will be arrested for up to 5 years(+ individual judgement about the “motivation” behind it so that it will maybe be a longer time in prison).
Here is the official information from the news:
“Sterbehilfe - was ist erlaubt, was ist strafbar?

Thank you so sorry much for the information! I wasn’t totally clear on the law and it’s a little tough with the translation since I don’t speak any German.. well, I can say “I love you” but that’s it lol
And thank you for the offer of translations! I do want todo more cases from others places! Do you have any specific case from Germany you think I should do a video on?

@@BRATTERSTEIN Thank you :)! You're welcome. German law isn't easy to understand even when you speak german lol. I would love to help you with a translation :). Yes, there a few cases from Germany that may be interesting. Most of these cases are really “big cases” so you may find some information in English. Let me know if I can help you :). I´ve added a few cases that may be interesting from other countries to the list which I´ve found while researching the names of the German cases.
      - the case of Fritz Haarmann (Hannover) one of the most famous cases in Germany (his super scary story still told at least near Hannover) there was even a super disgusting/ creepy song about him
      - Fritz Honka the serialkiller of St. Pauli (Hamburg)
      - Hilal Ercan (1999 Hamburg, they haven’t found her, it´s one of the biggest unsolved cases and there were new hints in 2019)
      - case of Rebecca Reusch (happened 2019; still not solved)
      - Marianne Bachmeier case (a mother killing the murderer of her child)
      - Joachim Kroll (Duisburg)
      - Rudolf Pfeil (serialkiller)
      - Moshammer case (he was a famous designer)
      - Andrei Romanowitsch Tschikatilo (a czech serialkiller)
      - Anna Ecklund (a paranormal case from Iowa)
      - Ted Bundy (USA)

I gotta say, y'all may think that I'M crazy, too..... lol.... but, at least he wasn't going around attacking people, torturing or killing people left and right. He fought all of the urges he had inside of him for so long - which, yeah, a good person is supposed to do. You'll probably put this in the video - but, he let numerous people go, completely unharmed, after they had shown up to be his "willing victim" and, then, had changed their minds. Both him and the victim in this case were clearly insane.... but, I'm not sure I would call it murder, I would call it, like, illegally assisted suicide? I dunno. Lol. I don't think he deserved that the sentencing that he got. But, that might just be my opinion.... that he's a polite cannibal. Lol

I disagree with murder convictions and sentencing when people who intend to die, enlist the help of others to euthanize them. This is a very atypical case, to put it mildly, though!! I usually think of Ramón Sampedro when I think of countries with outlawed assisted suicide/euthanasia, as he was born in the very religious, Christian country, Spain. And with the official religion heavily connected to the government, and said religion of Catholicism being one that outright denounces all suicides, unsurprisingly the concept of euthanasia with assistance, is heavily frowned upon, taboo even. Ramón Sampedro fought for the right to commit suicide with help - he battled the Spanish courts for 25 years, and ultimately, he lost. He still killed himself, with help. He couldn’t kill himself on his own and maintained no variation in his expression of wanting to die with dignity, throughout the 25 years between his accident and his death. His painful death that took some twenty minutes by cyanide - vomiting, shivering, convulsing….in a lot, LOT of pain. And he filmed his death, too, primarily so no one would be prosecuted for murder. He got a large group of more than a dozen people to each conduct a small part of the plan to get the cyanide and dissolve it in a beverage and get a straw in the cup and move the cup to where he could take the straw into his mouth and drink the concoction, the poison that would finally grant Ramón the release he sought, the freedom from the body that he’d come to loathe for a quarter century. He felt like a burden even though his family opposed his suicide plan. And I believe that his court case was hurt by his family’s insistence that he wasn’t a problem, or a chore, or a burden at all; to the contrary. They didn’t mind at all! Not a single person! But as a man paralyzed from the upper neck, down, he felt like a corpse attached to a living head. He had to have help to do literally everything - and he had zero independence and zero mobility. He could only move his mouth, his eyes, and his facial muscles. He relearned how to write by placing a pen or paintbrush in his mouth and painstakingly toiling over creating strokes that would result in legible letters and words. He wrote a full memoir, with just his mouth! But he wanted to be freed from his beyond frustrating corpse-like vessel. His biggest regret was, after the fact he did dive into that shallow bay, that his friend when seeing that he was floating motionless and face down, turned him over and dragged him to the shore. The sea had been taking him - and the drowning hadn’t hurt! It had been a comforting and peaceful sensation of blackness setting in, of him just drifting off, sailing away into oblivion. But he was ripped out of his dreamlike near-death, near-slumber. And he immediately regretted that fact, resenting it! I gave a lot of thought to the plight of Ramón. I think he should have won his lawsuit; he should have been able to just drift off like he once had begun to, with the aid of a more peaceful euthanasia poison than cyanide, which is known to be a terribly painful and slow agent of death. It’s one of the things I hate the most about Christianity, the assumption Christians take that it’s their moral obligation and duty to protect or save the savage heathens from eternal damnation through actions born of their own supposed ignorance. What a beyond arrogant notion! How callous and disrespectful, how downright insulting! If you think Ramón’s story is intriguing, you should check out the 2003 Academy Awards winning film for Best Foreign Language Film starring Javier Bardém as the protagonist. The movie is based on the words of the famous man. It is called Mar Adentro, The Sea Inside. A great, very moving movie…but make sure to have a half dozen boxes of tissues by your side, cause you’ll need them!

I know this is an older video but just in case anyone is curious: the federal court decided that it was not in accordance with the law to sentence Meiwes to only manslaughter - it had to be a murder charge because while Brandes agreed to being murdered, he was likely not in a mental state of mind to make such a decision. That's why the initial sentence was revised and he was tried a second time. Apparently it's unlikely Meiwes will get out early, as he is still a danger to the public who would likely murder again, and he hasn't shown any remorse.

After his dad left his mom had a friend named Ulla who got him into Satanism which later on he then joined the army due to his secret desires and unable to communicate with others about it he turned to heavy drinking which was the reason for his relief of duty. Here in the US under Double Jeopardy, you can't be CONVICTED of the same crime twice. But, say there is a hung jury, you can be re tried and in some cases (Scott Peterson for example) a new trial will actually be sought out. However, I do not believe the prosecution can appeal anything here either. This case is most definitely unique. I have to hand it to him that he didn't want to attack a random stranger, but there are definitely some moral lines that were crossed and he deserves to be in prison.

    • @BRATTERSTEIN
      @BRATTERSTEIN  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Right? I can definitely see both sides because.. did he like.. get permission and do it as I guess "correct" and respectful as possible.. yes. But where is the line? If he was out who's to say he wouldn't target mentally ill individuals who would agree to something without really being able to consent? IDK. It's ass bananas.
