I live in San Antonio, and I remember hearing about this case, but not in so much detail. I whole heartedly agree with you, entities like the church and the army should not be allowed to operate under their own "laws". They should be subject to the same rules and authorities as the rest of us.

I'm 7 months late to this but this sounds a lot like the story on Netflix about the nun who was murdered by the local priest. She had been a popular high school teacher and it took her traumatized students about 45 years to investigate her murder and insist that the priest be brought to justice. It's unbelievable that the Church is still protecting these dirt bags but as someone who worked at a parochial school I can 100% say that this could easily happen again. RIP to Irene 🙏💔

The seal of confession is taken very seriously however the priest can appeal to the Pope to break this seal in cases such as crimes. Regardless whether a monk (which still would have to be a priest in order to hear confessions, just not a diocesan priest) or a priest they can both appeal to the Pope to break the seal in regard to crimes. Also, this would have been pre Vatican II and some priests may have felt they could never break the seal of confession but they could have appealed to the pope even back then. Sad that both of these women (who knows how many others were harassed) were harmed and the one sadly killed… she was such a beautiful soul.

I know this is an older vid of yours howevs, if you happen to see this comment, I was wondering, if you would be interested in doing a video on a case about a small town teacher, when I say small town, I'm talking an island. In the Florida Keys to be exact. Her name was Missy MacIvor. She was in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy when her & her husband Mike were brutally murdered in Tavernier, Florida, by a horrible man named Thomas Overton. I think they believed he may have killed others previously, but I'm not sure! But she was a teacher at the school there in Key Largo. I grew up down there, & this was such a devastating thing to happen to the community. Haven't seen many TH-cam videos on her & her husband's case. I thought you would be able to look into it, & bring some awareness to the story! There's also a kids one in the area of Florida I live in now, in Largo, his name is Jordan Belliveau. I moved from Key Largo to Largo, it's crazy. Sad case, involving bad moves by CPS & with his mother faking a kidnapping & lying to the media. But it has since had laws passed & changed in the state of Florida in his name. I know you said you don't like kid cases, & I don't blame you. Just wanted to make a couple recommendations on cases you never see or hear about! Sending all my xoxo's! -Kristi 🧡💕🧡💕

Priest are not supposed to talk about anything they hear in confession. It's kinda like how lawyers have confidential seals so do priest. Priest can not even confirm or deny if a suspect even came to confession. That's probably why the Priest didn't come foward and report because they are not supposed to. It does become a sticky situation but theologically Priest act "in the person of Christ" during confession. There is alot more theologically speaking and I can't go that deep on a youtube video comment section lol

This story is awful. I have so many opinions. The fact that the Catholic Church has a special place for priests with problems says SO much. There are THAT many priests with serious issues that they have a whole location for them? That’s disturbing. And the fact that there are SO many people who knew what he did is absolutely infuriating. It’s outrageous that there’s any sort of protection with confession. That doesn’t make any sense. Your religion shouldn’t be able to protect you from crimes. I agree that every person who knew about his crimes should have been arrested.

I think monks share the same "Ecclesiastical Privilege" as priests; anything heard in the sanctity of a confessional has the same privacy protections as an attorney-client meeting. They are not expected to report crimes, nor lawfully bound to report crimes, but they are supposed to encourage the guilty party to come forward on their own.

It just disgusts me bc like there was clearly do much evidence and if it would've been anyone else he definitely would've been tried. The fact that they just cover shit up is so disgusting like that goes against "God" in every way.
This reminds me of that family annihilator who got away for years but this is almost worse bc so many people knew.

Jesus Christ said, If ye do this unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Jesus Christ also told us not to harm children.
Jesus Christ also fwd his flock with love, not with assault or violence.

This case makes me so angry! Injustice. One more reason for me to disagree with organized religion.
