How to program replacement keyfob key fob for 2011 to 2015 Camaro if you do not have a working one

- Many have asked . How do I program my keyfob if I have lost or damaged my original? Did some checking with my local dealers. Most of course would say, you have to bring it in so "we" can do it. Of course that involves and expensive tow truck plus the dealership charge. Finally found one service tech that would tell me. The following video has that info. Hope it helps. Will be on the search for more was and will compile them into one video.

This worked great for me. I told the dealer I had the key fob and not the key part. They said no problem I ordered the key paid for it went to pick it up they tell me I need to tow my car there to get programmed. Watched this video 30 minutes later I was back on business.

You good sir are amazing!!!! I went to Chevy to get my key replaced specifically explaining that I could not bring the car to them...I only had the money for a key and asked is it possible for me to program the key if I don’t have the master? Sure they said! It won’t be a problem for you at all to do it yourself....then after I paid for the freaking key told me “oh you’ll actually have to have the car towed up here and we’ll have to do it for about $150 plus towing fee” so they basically told me straight up that they robbed me...didn’t give a damn about my circumstances they just wanted their money at any cost...you helped me out a ton! Fuck Chevy mechanics!!!!! I’ll still buy their cars but I’d rather take a rusty disease riddled fork to the ass then go through their auto shop ever again!

Amazing! Here's an update. After the third 10 minute wait, I turned off the ignition and removed the key. After reinserting the key back in the ignition and turning it on, nothing happened. So I turned off, removed the key and reinserted it and then wah lah. It worked!

You are a freaking lifesaver! It worked on my 2013 Malibu. The only thing that I didn't know is after the third 10 minutes the light never turns off. So after that third 10 minutes I turned the key off pulled it out put it back in, turned the key all the way and the car started! So appreciate you doing this video!

I can't remember the site, it's an OEM key though Ford Lincoln Mercury. It's very close to the original but the RFID placement and the circuit board are slightly different. Probably due to trademarks

What year is yours? ANd what make. If it is a Camaro most of the time you can pop the cover off where the key goes and pull the emergency key out of the fob and start it that way. What if every time I insert the key, the alarm comes on? I can use the key fob to turn the alarm off, but will this method still work if I do that?

I did this 5 days ago on a '17 Silverado ... I had one working key with no fob ... Bought and had a new key cut ... I used this procedure (which is in the owners manual), starting with the NEW un-programed key ...This erases all key codes from the vehicle and sets the NEW key active ... This only works with a NEW un-programmed key, so you have to start with the NEW key ... I immediately took the NEW key out and inserted the OLD key (which is now NOT recognized) and turned it ... I now have two keys that work - I think I could have inserted a 3rd through 10th un-recognized key and programmed it ... However, I used the two-working-key method to program a 3rd key several days later ... This procedure was also in the owners manual ... BTW - Besides the shape of the cutout trough, I believe these keys have laser etching in the cutout trough that makes each key unique ... My guess is that the trough works, like keys have always worked, for doors and other non-starting uses ...
Yes, this means that with a mechanically duplicated key, someone can steal your vehicle in 30+ minutes ... AND deactivate YOUR keys in the process ... My next step is to get a fob and get it programmed

My 2010 was getting key stuck in ignition. Found out if I let car slightly roll forward or back to fully lock into Park, key comes right out.
Thanks for the videos. I just purchased a used 2011 Camaro and it only came with one set of keys. The blade had already been removed out of the fob and the key is detached post recall. I purchased a new key and fob from Amazon. I made sure the FCC id matched as you mentioned. I had my new key cut at the dealer and it programmed just like it did in your video by using the existing key first. Since the replacement fob blade is not cut, how can I program the fob to work with the car?

Hello. Thank you for checking out my video. Per the owner's manual and as long as you get the right key fob for your vehicle, yes. It should work. There are several different methods depending on year of car. Easiest of course is to have a working key and use that method. But per the manual and dealership, it should indeed work. Do you not have a working key?

I'd like to share my expierence with everyone.
My sister lost her main key fob and only had a key without fab that was still programmed from the ORIGINAL set of keys (she has lost her keys multiple times).
To program this single key, I followed the steps in this video. However, the third time I put the key in(without cranking), after ten minutes, the dash light went off with a message, but then almost immediately turned back on (dont know what the message said). After waiting 11-12min to see if the light would go back off, I decided to take the key out, put it back in and try to crank it. Nothing happened. I turned the car off, DID NOT REMOVE THE KEY, tried cranking it again, fired right up.
Hey brother, I have a question? I am not sure if you can help. I have the 2010 Camaro. I have 2 new keys and 2 old and the car said 5 keys programmed. I took a brand new flip key from Chevy...... did the 3 ..... 10 mins each and then the car said 1 key programmed. I started the car and let it run for a min or two. I turned the car off and now the fob doesn’t work at all. Then proceeded to take the next new key and try and see if it would work. It programmed the 2nd key but same thing ......key works but not the fob. Then I added a old dangle key and old fob. Same thing. Now the car says 3 keys programmed but only the 3 keys work. Not one fob works at all ??????????? What step would you do next? Just trying to get some ideas ? Wondering if I should just star over?? Please any help would be appreciated. Thank you
I only have one key fob. I ordered a new one and received it in the mail. i changed the blade of the old one and added it to the new key fob. I went out as you described. But the difference it that I inserted the new key fob with the old key black and I see the lock. I did that three times and the alarm comes on and the car with the lock keeps on showing up.

Yes and that did not work. But I figure out a easy fix for it though!
I took the working blade that I had on the new key fob off so that I could easily add it to each fob. I put if back on the old fob, but I did not add the little piece back in tot secure the key blade to the fob. I started the car with the old blade and the old fob and it started. I then removed the key and added it to the new fob and it programmed the fob. I then secured the blade in the key fob and everything works fine. The dealership service manager that I talked to today should have told me that but he wanted me to purchase their services and he said the only thing I could to is tow my car to the dealership and they would program it. $200 for the tow and $150 to program it. I also called a mobile locksmith that wanted to charge me $150-$200 to program the new key fob. This fix was easy and it you do not have a primary working blade key and key fob, this is an alternative of how you can get a new working key fob programed with your old key blade.

I also have 2 new key fobs with blank keys on them but have 2 new hanging keys to go with the fobs. So if I do the 30 min thing and reprogram say key one ,how do I had the other 3 new keys and fob? Condition
Some customers may comment on the appearance of the transmitter after the integrated blade has been removed.
Cause
2010-2014 CamaroThis will occur after Recall #14294 has been performed.
2015 CamaroProduced with a separate key and transmitter.
Correction
Install a new insert in place of the integrated blade and install a new battery cover following the steps below:Remove the original battery cover and discard.
Locate the slot in the chrome part of the transmitter and install the new insert in place of the integrated blade as shown, making sure it is fully seated.
Note: If the slot is not showing, press the release button to “flip” the chrome part over.
(1)Locking Tab
Press and hold the button to “flip” the insert into the closed position and then release the button. Important: Excessive force on the insert may crack the tab portion that is inserted into the slot.
Install the battery and new battery cover. Be sure the retention tab on the insert engages with the underside of the battery cover.
Important: Verify the positive “+” side of the battery is facing up.

As for the keys. Do the 30 minute deal for one key. Once it is up and working use it as the main key. Insert main key, crank car , run for 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key. Immediately insert new key and start car. Let run for 5 seconds. That key should now be programmed. And just continue.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, I have no link to them in Amazon because there are soo many different ones and prices. Did you make sure the numbers on the side of the fob are correct for your car. I know you can not check against the old one because you do not have it. but the chevy dealership can give you that info. if it is not the right one it will not work

Hello. You can get it cut at almost any hardware store like true value or ace. Also some walmarts do it...….when you order online make certain the numbers on the side match your current one
So do you know if this will also remove all other programmed Key Fobs from working with the card as well? Asking because we have lost fob and I don't want the chance of someone finding it and be able to gain access to my car.
Honestly I doubt so. Most of the time that has to be done with a scan tool. A local mechanic should be able to wipe them right out. but before doing so, look up Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in Charlotte NC...….As for the parts counter. And ask them how to do it. The old key is an integrated circuit that draws power for the transponder from the key fob cr3032 battery, while the new key has a stand alone transponder that is powered from the receiver ring. Should I place the old key near the reviewer ring and try it again that way? I'm at a loss here and it's looking like a trip to Ford for a replacement key and $32 useless key thats only good for unlocking the doors and popping the trunk lol

I just bought a 2013 camaro 2LT but it don’t have a fob of either kind just 2 keys. So I ordered a switch blade key fob off eBay and I plan to have a key for it made. Will this work to program it beings it’s a 2013?
There are 3 ways I know of to program it. Actually you don't even need to have one made. Just heat one of the two you have (hold with pliers) and pull of the plastic part. There is actually a notch in the key . Just take the blank out of the fob and swap with the key.......Did you order the correct one? Did you get the number from GM? Thanks for watching

Hi, The buttons on my FOB crumbled. I have a Fob that is programmed for a different vehicle & switched the key blades. Will this reprogram the Fob to my vehicle? Just order key fobs from Amazon, have a locksmith duplicate the key and I can program it with this 3 x 10 minute method ?
Problem is, the FCC numbers and such on the fob would have to match to the new one off Amazon. Since you do not have one, there is no way to know. So you will have to take the vin number to the dealership and purchase a fob through them......Should only be like $40-$60...And then do the 3-10 relearn. Thanks for watching
Your videos are awesome! I am the proud owner of a 2014 Camaro but I absolutely DESPISE the fob being separate from the key with this dumb recall. When I purchased the car the dealership had already performed the recall for both keys. And I've been stuck with it ever since. I don't plan on getting rid of my baby any time soon. Any suggestions on how I may combine the blade back into the fob without purchasing a whole new fob and getting the blade cut and programmed?
Why thank you so very much. You can but it is a bit of a pain. It requires you to cut or melt off all the plastic on the key. Then some have the hole to reinsert and some do not. if not you will have to drill the hole. Thanks for watching

My mom has a 2014 Camaro right now and the key is on a key chain like in the video 1:39 but she used to have a 2012 Camaro with a push button key and she wants to use that key instead for her 2014 , will this method work?

Does this method works for a 2014 Chevy impala my anti theft deterrent light is on, I replaced the battery because it was no good and tried something similar to this method but I didn't take the key out the ignition during each cycle. Or could it be that I just need another key fob
Hi. It is possible that you need a new fob. But it will not hurt to try this one. I was told you have to remove the key each time that way the computer recognizes that it is repeating the cycle. If you do not take it out, it thinks you are trying to do something else and not program the key. Thanks for watching

And you have done the , switch on let set, switch off, repeat? If so , try this. I have had reports it works. I sure hope so. Take the old key I assume is one of the dangle fobs and start the car. Then switch It off, quickly swap the fobs and then re-start and let run for about 30 seconds. Try that and let me know. We'll try to work it out

Well dang. It should not make a difference. As long as you have the working one. You should be able to just stick it in and switch on the car {not start} , switch it off, switch fobs and switch back on. What year car is it?

It didn’t work for me. The lock disappeared. I tried to start it and nothing happened. Took the key out and tried to start it again and the lock reappeared

Camaro Time it came with the car. Bought it used. It wasn’t working from the purchase. Thought it was the battery. I’m using the the regular key for now.
Does it unlock the doors and pop the trunk>
Camaro Time yes the key fob does. It also starts the car when I first start it with the regular key
Hi just saw ur video I have a 2015 Chevy equinox. What if my old key works but the lock button is gone and non functional. When I get my key fob in the mail would I be able to just program it for the purpose of the lock button function?
Hi there. It will not program unless it is actually on a key unless the Equinox is different from the Camaros

Hello, I have a 2015 Chevy Camaro. The dealership only gave me the original key and the fob. They did not give me a spare key. Just the one master key. Does that method work if I purchase the new remote fob? The buttons on my old fob does not work. So I'm left with the key link to the chain.

Ok....how about this. I have my key (the dangler) but I just wanted a new fob. They gave me a new key AND fob but I just want to program the fob. Can I program the new fob without using the new key?
There have been some that take the fob and hang it off the old key and do the new key reprogram. Like if all keys were lost. And had success....There are others that have said it does not work. Only way to know is give it a try. Thanks for watching

When buy my switch bleed key from my Chevy dealership they told me how to reprogram it for free.

I did the 3 ten minutes thing and ...... now the 2 new keys work but both new fobs don’t work. My old key works again but the old key fob does not. So now can start my car but none of my fobs work ? Would you happen to have any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated 👍

No and I called Chevy on that. They said there is 3 different keys and and they sold me the 2 that don’t work. They are saying I am suppose to get a key kit part number 23366895. Have you heard about that at all?
What if you have keyless entry? I have no place to stick a key to start my car.
What year is yours? ANd what make. If it is a Camaro most of the time you can pop the cover off where the key goes and pull the emergency key out of the fob and start it that way. You will need to dangle the fob on the key during programming. Then take off if you like. Thanks for watching

The 2 new fobs just have blank blades on them they aren't key cut
You should be able to just hang the fob off of the working key. Switch car on, wait 10 seconds and remove. Do that 3 times and you should be good to go. Just so the fobs are for that vehicle. Do the numbers on the side of the fobs match?
They have updated numbers on them that replaced previous numbers is what the site said

I just recently bought my car and the guy said the fob stopped working. I changed the battery and the fob still doesn’t work. I’ve been trying to figure out how to reprogram the fob to see if it will still work but I haven’t found any info on how to do the reprogramming without the switchblade key due to me only having the regular key for the door that’s separate from the fob itself

I only have one key and saving up to get me a spare that's going to cost me $300 or so but after watching this video and reading the comments please help correct me if I'm wrong not understanding that if I can get a blank spare key $15 key and be able to program the new spare key to my original key only having one with the dangling remote programming the spare key to my key file being able to use both key file ? I only have one key file with the dangler remote I need a spare just in case I lose it but don't have the money can I just go buy a key file programming it to the key file with separate remote would I be able to use both
LOL. Now I am confused. Sorry. You have one key with the dangler.....If it were me, I would buy another one off of Amazon (make CERTAIN the numbers on the side match), get it cut to match the original. Insert the original and crank car and let run 5 seconds. Pull out the original and insert the new one. Crank car and let run for 5 seconds. You will then have two keys both with working fobs. Total about $30-$35....Thanks for watching
@@CamaroTime thank you for your help. What number on the key? I have no numbers on my key. I have one key alarm push start key separate I think it's the dangler that used to have a key on there but I'm guessing it broke from the original owner
If you look on the side of the fob, where the key would fold up into it. There is a cutout for the key. Look really good and you will see a bunch of numbers including the FCC number

P-and-A Photos I finally had the time to get the fob and every dealership I went to said that they would have to program it. So I needed up getting the key fob for about 45$ from one of them and programmed it no problem myself with the original method. So overall I believe if you have a key that starts the car you can program the fob. Thanks!!!

Do you know how to program the new keyless remote fob? I don’t have the old key fob with the key in the fob. I have the new key fob with the key separate.
Did you not take the car in when you got the new replacement setup? They would have done it then for you. Either way, put the new key with the fob dangling from it. Switch it on until the dash lights come on. Leave it like that for 10 minutes. Then switch it off and remove the key. Then immediately put the key in and switch it on until the lights come on and stop. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Repeat that process one more time. After the third time (30 minutes later) the locked icon on the dash should go away. then the car should start as normal and all functions of the fob should work perfectly...…….Did you get this key from the dealer?
Thank you! I ordered the new recalled key from the dealer but I didn’t take my car in to have them service it. So, my new key and fob are separate but the key itself is not cut. I assume watching both your videos they would have to cut the new key so that I can insert it into the ignition and program the fob? I still have my old key (just the key itself without the key inserted that flips in the fob) before the recall. I lost the spare key fob with the flip key.

Camaro Time Yes. I have (1) old key for my 2014 Chevy Camaro LS that I use. I have to put the key in the door to unlock it, the alarm comes goes off when I open the door, then I have to stick the key in the ignition to deactivate the alarm (since I have no fob) and start the car. I ordered a new key from the dealer that came with the new recalled key and fob (both are separate from each other). The new key itself is uncut and the new fob is not programmed. I’m trying to program the new fob with my old key. Can I do that?
I do not think it will work but you can try. Take the new key off of the fob and try the 30 minute procedure. If that does not work, take it to any Ace Hardware And I think even Walmart now does it and get the key cut …..Then put the new key back on the new fob and do it again.
