  • Hey guys and thanks for tuning in this week.
The 2023 Kia Niro EV goes through my rugged (ok, not so rugged) storage test and I wheel out the holiday luggage and water bottle to test this car to the max.

Wow. 3 full size luggages, 2 carry ons.. and an additional bag would fit. I'm impressed.

Useful info, though personally I found the visuals a bit dizzying

It would interesting to see if a full-sized adult bicycle would fit in the boot with front wheel on and off.

Why not put that comment on a Honda Accord video then.

Hi Stuart, I have the new Niro EV 4. Have you had any issues the car refusing to go into gear? If I turn the car off and walk away then try again it starts.

I have the new Niro and yes, I have that problem. If I’ve used the app to preheat the car, it gets stuck in N and won’t move to D or R. The word Ready will not appear on the dash info. The only solution is to leave the car for 5-10 minutes and allow it to reset itself. Then it starts no problem. Kia say they are aware of the issue and are trying to resolve it. They advise not to use the Kia Connect App to preheat until it’s sorted out. Waiting over 2 months now. They say this is also a problem on the EV6 and on some models of Hyundai.

I did have that problem during testing and it was very frustrating as you just want to jump in and go. The only way I could rectify was to turn off the car and back on wait 20 seconds and try again and it worked. Sometimes that happens in the Tesla Model 3 and MG4, it just can’t keep up and you need to give it some time to ‘wake up’ in its own time.

If you would consider it, look at the Kona, same under pinnings and I think the software is better and a much bigger boot too
