I love that they let Austin have the spotlight in this video since the song is such an intimate look into his heart. I also like that as a group they have the confidence to try something outside the box.
You're right that this is a very personal song addressed to a particular person. Austin wrote it (with Andrew Tufano) for his lady Amberly, the third song on the new album for or about her. He's been very candid about being in a pretty sorry state before they fell in love and how she has inspired him to be a better person and have hope for the future. Some people have asked why this wasn't a solo project on Austin's channel. The scale of the project would have made it difficult to do without the greater resources of Home Free. As well as the expense of the video, this is a heavily produced sound and Darren Rust did a fine job, as well as playing the piano which sets the tone for the whole song. Adam Rupp played the (real) synthesizer, doubled on percussion, and a lot of complex harmonies in the background filled out this very rich soundscape. Wasn't the 2-note phrase in the background vocals a throwback to (I think) Mayday? It's certainly very familiar.... I'm glad the guys had the confidence to do something so very different.
The way this video was plotted out, the other guys had the option of filming for this or going home a day early. They decided they didn't add anything by being there and went home to their families, letting Austin shine. A lot of people have made a lot of it, but at the end of the day, they were just missing their wives and kids.
Thank you. Quite a few people have been upset at the lack of the rest of the group visually, and it is nice to have a reason to show. I figured that if they really wanted to be in it, they would be.
@@nightthornkvala94132 Amberly was recruited (without Austin's knowledge) as an extra camera operator and to do BTS. One form of togetherness, I suppose
When I first heard this song, I was surprised by the very adult approach. It speaks a lot about a person who will put their life experience out there. Austin's words are so moving. I love it on the bridge when he finally smiles. And I'm so happy that he found his true love. Thank you so much for your reaction to this video.
Since Austin wrote this, he did the lead. Tim wrote Understand and seems to write for every voice since his range is so broad. Tim was a full time songwriter before Home Free.
Actually, though Tim has a writing credit on Understand, it was written primarily by Jeffrey East and another guy. Tim jokes that he was late to the writing session because he got held up in traffic and by the time he got there the song was basically done. He made a couple of suggestions and, as the saying goes, “Write a word, get a third.” On the other hand, with What’s Left of My Heart, Tim writes a more personal message and sings the entire song. I think it really depends on the the song…it only makes sense for Austin to sing the songs that are about his girlfriend Amberly, such as this one.
Can't wait to see you do a reaction of Stargazer Lily! Another written by Austin! It's freaking amazing!! Love when you do Home Free reactions! Thank you! 😊
Another Amberly inspired love song. Austin is telling the world his devotion in this beautiful song. A very different Home Free song. I understand Darren Rust was on the piano and Adam Rupp on syth.
I really enjoyed the introspective nature of the song. Austin is telling us something personal about who he is and how he sees the world around him ! A refreshing change of pace from Home Free. Different can be a good thing.
great job as always. like everbody i like Austins high voice, but his lower voice is just so smooth.I love the fact they are doing some of their own songs. Side note next week i get to go to their Christmas concert .cant wait.Waiting on your next reaction!!
Loved the reaction! This is Austin's song and to my understanding added to it to make it more full. Great group as u know. Tim has a new Do-Op release out also! THANKS JEN for keeping it real! peace
Christmas songs - Cold Hard Cash, Snow Globe, Angels we have heard on High, Amazing Grace, Auld Lang Syne - and on, and on, and on; they never get tired or boring. Great analysis!
The song was written as such a personal message...very intimate. So to only show one of the guys singing makes sense. You can hear the others in the song but it still feels as if it is just Austin in an intimate moment. I think having all the guys in the video, swapping verses like they normally would do would break that feeling of intimacy. The message would still be there but I think it would have gotten a bit lost.
Austin is such an underappreciated songwriter....just incredible. Jennifer, I too have problems at times with TH-cam notifications. I get them back online so to speak, by unsubbing and then resubbing.
Jennifer! On time today, and for a Home Free video! You are definitely a Home Fry aren't you! 😁 Very interesting song. Something a little different from these guys. Austin keeps disappearing and startling you. 😄 This was almost like a solo by Austin. Certainly had that feel since he's the only member of Home Free that we actually saw (though as you pointed out Tim's bass notes were clearly there). Nice song. And I'm finishing up a stroopwafel as I watch this in a nod to Jennifer's heritage. I was buying German cookies and stollen and saw these caramel stroopwafels and had to have a box. Will be lovely with my hot tea in the morning! Great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer! 😊
Austin wrote this about his girlfriend Amberley. He said she made him want to be a better man…wow! I think it’s beautiful. And it has piano in it and I don’t mind. Such a good reaction Jen. 🥰
When I first heard Home Free I thought they were so talented and yet so under appreciated. They should be way more famous with their talent. Then, I just realized during this video that I think the same of you. You are so so smart and so talented and yet so under appreciated for your talents too. That's why I relate you to Home Free. Like them you're briilliant. You never cease to amaze me. Always, love your reactions.
I'm so glad you picked up on the positive message of this song. So many reactors stop after the first couple of lines and go somewhere really dark when the real message of the song is how someone (in his case, Amberly) makes him want to be better.
The 2 year quarantine gave everyone an opportunity to work on original music. Tim Foust had always written music before Homefree. Austin continued to take lessons for several years and has started publishing some of his original songs.
Your reactions and analysis ...and general demeanor....are wonderful ....always. This was no exception. Great job. First time I watched the official video of this I honestly thought this might be a swing and a miss...which is fine. Then I later listened distracted by doing something else (well....peeling carrots actually) and certain lines registered. I then figured that given a little background repetition like on a car radio this would become a very ingrained song, a sort of part of the sound track of one's life. There are songs from when I was young that at the time I really didn't much care for but the lyrics and mood stuck and stood out later in my life and became more a part of my memories of an era and place than did snappier, better liked tunes. An odd, off the cuff example for me was Year of The Cat ....it was a song by Al Stewart released my senior year in high school. I truthfully despised that song the first several times it played and would quickly try to change stations. Then one day I did not bother and from then on even decades later when I happened to encounter it on the radio it captivated me. Hell I did not really hear or understand all the lyrics for decades but everytime just about it became more meaningful . Of course the meaning I took probably was not one intended by the writer but still.... Anyway, sorry to ramble, but this song seems it could be like that for someone.
Another shining example of Austin's songwriting. I might have missed it if you reacted to it, but Austin did a song he wrote last year called "If I Met You Now". Might have just been the timing or the place I was in at the time, but it is one of my favorites. You should check it out.
Great analysis! Touching song! Versatile vocal range from Austin! Glad you found this one to do an analysis! Anticipating your Christmas songs!! Have a wonderful day (from the USA!) !!
Love how Austin has been trying different styles that still allow him to show his amazing range. Please listen to his Home Free partner in crime Tim Foust sing his new song Since I Don't Have You. It's up there with his version of Stay / Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.
Jen if you're going to do some Home Free Christmas songs, please do Adam Rupps brilliant arrangement of Do You Hear What I Hear. Snowglobe and Winter Song are also beautiful, or you could try Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer - worth it for the costumes alone! 😂😂😂
There are other originals on Austin's channel that I think you might enjoy - especially "If I Met You Now" or - if you want to hear that Georgia accent uncensored "Earn It". Thanks for playing and analyzing this one.
This was written by Austin and Andrew Tufano. I believe that this is another song for Amberly from the new album. Truly enjoy watching your reaction and analysis of this beautiful song.

I've learned more about music listening to your analysis than I did in my music appreciation elective way back in my college days. I love your reaction videos! Keep them coming. If you haven't done a reaction to Austin Brown's "If I Met You Now," you should do so. It's another one of his beautiful love ballads.
I have been avoiding listening to this song beyond that first verse. I was uncomfortable. I thought it was about someone close dying, possibly someone who committed suicide. I knew I could listen to it here (this analysispoppedin my feed today) because of all the breaks Jennifer puts in (thank you, Jennifer!). It's an amazing song.
I thought this was quite interesting, they definitely don’t get caught in a musical groove. I think ( my opinion) Adam Rupp has a lot to do with how they change a lot of songs up! This one may have been all Austin. Interesting take on a love song. Christmas song. Need to listen to do you hear what I here. Older but gooder! Low bass Kenneth
Sorry Jen..came in late, had to work..I always enjoy your reactions and love Home Free..thank you! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your day..really love this song, but then again, nothing I don't like from Home Free.
