    There's so much food everywhere in japan that you would never have to prepare your food if you didn't want to. And Japanese sandwiches/ sandos are the best thing on earth. Loved the video.

    If you have a chance to come to japan again, I would definitely recommend Hokkaido in summer. The temperature is not as hot as in Tokyo or Kyoto, and above all, food! Especially,

    Dude, I did the same 2016! I know exactly what you did! ^^ And more. My route was pretty similar at first: Tokyo, Chichibu, Chino, Matsumoto, Takayama (you missed that beautiful town!, same climb to Hirayu-onsen though), Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, Mikuni, coastline to Biwa-ko (but I chose Hikone, the eastern side of the lake), Kyoto. After that I moved on to Uji, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, back to Kobe, Back to Osaka, Kii peninsula at the coastline to Ise, Nagoya, Shizuoka, Fuji, Hakone, Kamakura, back to Tokyo. But, and thats the truth, I carried my stuff all the way in a travelbag I modified into a backpack on my back. I used a great carbon road bike Hikaru Utadas father bought me after he crashed my previous bike. ^^ Thats also not a joke! It took me 90 days and I experienced alot of great stuff on the way, too, like festivals, great people and breathtaking landscape and culture! I enjoyed the ride like you did!Great seeing people doing the same stupid things like me. ^^

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BooLee01
      @BooLee01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you find these routes? I lived in Japan for 10 years in the 1990s but have been back in the US for 20 years. I will retire at the end of this year and move back to Japan and I plan on doing a lot of cycling, but I have to be honest. I really suck at directions and if I tried a long trip like this, I'd probably end up in Burkina Faso or something, unless I had it mapped out for me on a GPS.

    @John Brophy, how did you guys store the bike boxes you used for the flight? did you leave them in storage or manage to leave them in a hotel?

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hotel looked after them. Also we left some at blue lug bike shop. We looped back from Kyoto to Tokyo on the train and stayed in the same hotel on our final night so we’re able to get the boxes.

      it was a good 2 hour journey with it from one side of tokyo to the other.. combined with getting off at the wrong stop on the subway and having to double back... made me want to find a lighter solution.. Maybe a new bag... but also maybe a bromtpon XD

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were there sep 17 - Oct 1st. We had three days of torrential rain, but it was still warm. Our stuff got soaked - so waterproof bags are highly recommended. 👍🏻

    Very positive, atmospheric video. I like it so much, even thought i am not cyclist fan. But Japan is a love, not even that Japanese Girls are lovely, not even that Japan has Manga/Anime, not even that Japan has amazing nature and sceneries, but altogether Japan is simply amazing. Hope u guys enjoyed your trip there, looking forward for more!

    Really intrigued by the lightshow/art installation thing from 0:47. Where/what was that?!
    I loved the rest of your trip too. Many years ago I worked in Hamamatsu-shi for a year and travelled a bit around Shizuoka prefecture. I'd go back in a heartbeat to do some bike touring.

    Hello, I'm looking into bike touring Japan for awhile and am unsure whether I should bring my camp cooking equipment or not. I see you guys were cooking your own food. I'm wondering if you think the cost savings were worth the weight. Great vid!

    • @JohnBr0
      @JohnBr0  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I still maintain that the best ramen I’ve ever eaten was the one I cooked myself on a beach in Japan using my little stove and ti pot after we bought all the ingredients at a supermarket! It was definitely nice to be able to fall back on. But the amount of sushi and onigiri you can eat means we didn’t really need it. Not too sure on the cost savings - Japan is very cheap now if you have USD. ❤️ have an amazing trip!!

      I took all the gear with me - It's in the bag and the box in the first and last scene in the movie. Spend? Really can't remember. $2-3-4k with flights and hotels? Something like that. Not too much - it was well worth it.
