They’re not ideal really, probably handy when you’re stuck I suppose! Thanks Sue!

Hi Barry. Some of those tomato plants are doing well. I’m very surprised at the expensive grow bag, I’d be extremely disappointed at that price indeed. Very surprised at the cheaper ones, I’d definitely be checking them out. Have a great week. Mark

Cheers Mark! Yeah it’s not great, I’ve sent them an email so hopefully they’ll get in touch!

I don’t see the point of a grow bag unless you don’t have a pot 😂 because it’s basically a bag of compost you cut a hole in 🤷‍♀️. But always like a good experiment. Have a great week Barry, Ali 🥵🌞🇨🇦

They’re big business here I don’t know if it’s something to do with how small gardens are! Cheers Ali you too!

I have used Westland Growsure multi purpose compost for my tomato plants this year and all of them have to have been stunted and had to cut the growing tips off as all curly at the top and new leaves have grown curly also. When looking at pictures online it would appear to have been affected by a weed killer, which I don’t use in my Garden.

That’s really interesting, it seems like weed killer might be what’s going on with them! I’ve emailed Westland this morning so hopefully they’ll come back with some information!

The Westland growbag could be contaminated with weed killer or compost accelerator, etc. A lot of municipal waste includes grass, which may have been treated with lawn weed killer. Also, compost accelerator could be used in the composting process. I had a similar the last two years with Levington growbags. Never using growbags again.

That’s a very good suggestion actually, it does have similar appearance to when weeds have had a diluted hit of roundup, which would explain the inhibited growth. You’ll be right on the source too, I’m overrun with horsetail now thanks to contaminated compost. Definitely will have to look into this!

Just recently watched this and still pretty shocked by the visible poor performance and quality of growing material in the most expensive grow bag.
Price is no indicator these days and I have found in last couple of years wildly different quality and consistencies in peat free compost bags I have bought.

It definitely seems like they don’t have as much control over what material goes into it now that they have to rely on green waste. Assuming they use a quick process for it to leave the sticks/cotton/chemicals intact.

Been impressed with Westland No Peat John Innes no 2 compost. Nice consistency. Too many others are really poor. Could make better myself. Perhaps I should!

I’m sure those sea weed enriched bags are not a good idea. Got two this year from Aldi. Both were useless. Won’t buy seaweed again….

I haven’t tried those ones, the quality has dropped considerably since going peat free. I think the majority could do with an extra year of rotting before using them. The ones I used last year went in a tub and it’s proper black compost this year.

@@GrowIt interesting thought. Maybe I’ll get a few now ready for next year
