This game was a decade ahead of its time in the bgm department. Seriously impressive with the equipment and just think how hard it was to find talent like this in this field.
"Quartet Theme" will always be one of my favorite opening-level BGMs in gaming, and a perfect example of why it's key to lead off with a strong musical piece or song to begin a game's journey. What makes _Quartet_ really shine, aside from its lovely graphics and good gameplay, is that _all_ of the music in it is good. I particularly like the upbeat, uplifting tune "Sky," as well!
sega was for the culture. they support and did rap before it was really big and mainstream. rap was hated back in 1986 but folks outside the culture. so much respect for them to taking a chance on the soundtrack.

The OKI Rap stage was just fantastic in the arcade game. There were little robot drones that would hop up and clap to the beat at certain points in the song. I thought that was so amazing when I was a kid. ^_^ Man, what an underrated classic.
Such an underrated game, sadly the only true console port was a very stripped down version on the Sega Master System. If only this would have been released on the Genesis with the 4 player tap it would have been an instant classic. Thanks for the upload!
Maybe it could have been a side-scrolling run’n’gun like Contra. That would make it the VERY FIRST 4-player game of its kind! Sunset Riders could suck it ;)
A very catchy & memorable compilation of themes from this SEGA arcade classic, Quartet. A shame this wasn't included in any of SEGA's Classic compilations for next-gen systems. Also, we will never know the creative minds behind the tunes as they remain uncredited.
Well the song was remade with lyrics in Project DIVA Arcade and sung by Miku, along with other songs like AFTER BURNER and LIKE THE WIND coming from old SEGA games, but sung by Vocaloids.
Ok i just googles it and it says Quartet was composed by Katsuhiro_Hayashi who also did the music to Galaxy Force and a few Master System games. I think this sounds so much like Fantasy zone and Outrun cause they all used the same sound driver.
Never heard the last two tracks before. Could not help but notice that one of the digital soundbytes used in said tune is "F--- you!" Pretty amusing. Never gets heard during actual gameplay of course, but this means it's tucked away on rom regardless.
The last track kinda sounds like a precursor to “Techno Syndrome”. Also I like the clever use of vocal samples to add lyrics, this had to have been the first game to have a soundtrack with (basic) lyrics in it, predating Skate or Die II on NES by about 4 years.
I think the music was inspired by Fantasy zone and I think a Little bit by notes of Namco Kinda because when I herd phozon by Bandai Izuki wantaneyama was arranging the song I think no offense but it was still very underrated 3 decades later I told my music partners Elijah and Matthew they got sooooo inspired by Oki raps end they had to get there friend who had a great experience with them and whent and got there parents to go sega, get the system 16 and put it on genisis it sounded great to thanks for uploading
I mean, Sega does occasionally make callbacks to their more obscure games, albeit not as much as Nintendo. Still, “Toot toot sonic warrior” is based on music from Sonic 2 on the Master System, Alex Kidd and Flicky have made numerous cameos, and I’m pretty sure that Sega Superstars Tennis has a reference to Space Harrier in it somewhere.

I remember playing this as kid. The soundtrack, fun gameplay and the vibrant graphics gave an incredible rush. This is why Sega was great.
This game was legend in the arcades, but on the master system port, it blew chunks…
Quartet Theme

Fun Fact: FM Funk and Oki Rap were reworked and reused in Spider-Man: The Video Game for the arcades.
Hearing this music at the arcade back in the 80s blew me away. I would just hang out by the cabinet listening to demo mode just to hear the tunes.

It was also used in the Spider-Man arcade game, just without the vocals.
Felixstowe, uk sometime around 1985. Took the day off school and spent the majority of it playing this. A true classic Sega hit.

I'm probably wrong but my guess would be Hiroshi Kawaguchi, it certainly has his funky samba style.
based on the first track I would tag it on whoever also did outrun
Hiroshi Kawaguchi composed Outrun, Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier. This soundtrack defiantly fits his style.
Ok i just googles it and it says Quartet was composed by Katsuhiro_Hayashi who also did the music to Galaxy Force and a few Master System games. I think this sounds so much like Fantasy zone and Outrun cause they all used the same sound driver.

OKI RAP was also used in Spiderman the Video Game by Sega.

The melody of the chorus in the original theme song may have been inspired by "FM Piano Test" from the video game Quartet.
