I just checked SaabWIS and it says fluid capacity total 2.4, fluid capacity refill 2.2L, presumably because 200ml remains in even after draining... I might ask them to split the difference and put in 2.3L, given they'll also be adding about 120ml of Molyslip 2001G.

Thanks for all the videos, they've been of great help especially for double-checking all the quirks in removing trim and other things, and it's funny how you just happen to have the same model, year and color as mine. Half dose of this amzn.to/3Ki1NL9
My Saab has a sloppy shifter and won’t go into any gear but a week ago I had it go in reverse and 5th
Probably the turret bushing on the top of the gearbox. X8R do a turret kit. Easy enough to fit.
Hi. Is the 2.4 litre fill the same on all saab gear boxes. I have a 2008 93 TTDI and considering doing gearbox oil change very soon.
Not ALL boxes. F40 FWD only. 5sp and XWD are different
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for being a pain. But if you don't ask you'll never know. Are gearbox drain and fill plugs the same size? 2008 93 TTDI .
Thanks for the video
No problem!
Thanks for all the videos, they've been of great help especially for double-checking all the quirks in removing trim and other things, and it's funny how you just happen to have the same model, year and color as mine. WIS states that both mine (F17, Z18XE) and your gearbox should have OEM-number 12799117, and the oils that I've found with that number are GL-5 (API GL5). Still, you advise not using GL-5? Edit: Ah, found older comments asking the same question - yes, the one I found (Febi Bilstein 32590) was both GL-4 and GL-5, so then it's all good I take it.
What engine ist? Thanks for your videos
My car? The one in the video? that's a B207R. The F40 box was available with all engines though (optional in some trim levels)
Hi great content as usual 👌 did you use any moly slip this time when you changed the oil and how are you the mannol oil compared to the castrol only asking because I’ve got to do my box soon and there’s a big difference in price and availability. Cheers
The mannol is good. Shifting has remained consistently good. Now I've had a chance to drive it more, I'd say there isn't a big difference between the Mannol and the Castrol. Both are good.
And yes I put some additive in - I added Molyslip to the Castrol and one tube of this amzn.to/3LJA2MR to the Mannol. The Liqui Moly seems to be doing the same job with less product.
@@CycloneCyd do you subtract from the 2.4 the amount of additive you put in?
@@nathanielramirez8997 yes. Well spotted. 👍
@@CycloneCyd noticed you added 1 tube of 20g to your 2.4 liters of transmission fluid, the tube I ordered is 50g which says it will treat 2.5l of fluid, any thoughts as to whether it would be safe to use whole thing? Some reviews said not to use it in synced gear boxes which is why I’m wary.
@@nathanielramirez8997 yes, I only put a half dose in. I have previously used a full dose and it did make a slight improvement. I think the main benefit is mostly gained from putting in new oil. But, yeah, use the full dose if you feel the need.
i got a saab 9-3 2008 1.9TD last week and i was wonder so how is your experience with Mannol 75w-80 in the gearbox ? Any good since mannol is cheaper oil or u recomment still going for the castrol Syntrans?
Hello, how did this oil perform?
My shop told me to only fill 1,9L. Is this too litle?
If it's an XWD, that's correct
Hi , not related but do you know the torque setting for the pinch bolt on the front lower suspension arm / wheel hub ?
Hi, thanks for this video ! it was very useful for my Saab 9.3 1.9 TID of 2006 with 211000 kms. I used Castrol syntrans transaxle 75w-90 oil with 4% Mecarun P18 treatment.
Best regards ,
Patrice from Savoie / France.
T'as un F40 aussi sur une 2006 ? Ou une m32 ?
T'as mis combien d'huile ?

Thanks for these great videos, wonder if you can help with my SAAB93TID (06) Auto. i had the gearbox oil changed about 10 months ago at a knowledgeable Saab garage, recently i have developed an issue where the car stalls in gear/reverse when i am stationary with foot on the brake, sound like some TCC lock up issue from what i have been reading? no engine lights, wonder if changing the oil again might help?. Thanks
Hey i have a Saab 9-3 2003 1.8t 5speed Manual how much oil should i use i noticed that the car is not shifting smooth but i dont notice a bad clutch i tested it. I want to try this can you help me out?
Do u recommend to change it on my car got 285000km b207 engine 20t 2005
Sorry to ask I'm really new to this car and I got confused with my model . I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 aero 6v automatic and I get a gear box malfunction code but I don't understand if it means transmission or a gear box for automatic? And if this works in the same way cuz I am really not sure lol
Hi Cyd, I came across the mannol MTF-4 API-GL 4 75w-80. Specs look the same, but will it do the job properly?
It should, being a GL4. Just don't use a GL5.
Why ?@@CycloneCyd
@@drefhill GL5 dissolve copper
@@CycloneCydand why is that a problem ? The gears are made of copper ?
Spheretech europe only have 1 type of oil for gearboxes 75w90 and it's GL4/GL5 compatible.
@@drefhill are you being deliberately obtuse? Synchromesh is made of brass.
More and more oils these days are GL4/GL5 - ie compatible with both.

Thank you 👍
I've found my 6 speed is a bit sticky into 1st and 2nd, do you reckon a fluid change would help? I know usually people recommend changing the pivot bush.
I changed the linkage as my gear knob was very sticky, especially when not in gear, it would stick left or right depending if I pulled it out of 1st/2nd or 6th/5th and not return to the centre. After renewing the linked with some bits off ebay it was like new! I probably will change the gearbox oil in the summer when I do an oil change too. Car will be over 200k by that time and I have no idea if/when it was done previously.
@@simon1290r My car needs a new clutch, may ask them to have a look at the linkage as well
Hello Cyd, great content. I have a 2010 1.9 TiD Turbo Edition. What oil would you recommend and what quality?
same as in this video. Refill is 2.2l and not 2.4 as mentioned. 2.4l is when gearbox is new (dry).
How much does the F40 hold with XWD? WIS only states 1.6 but I put 2L in just to be safe
Yes, 1.6 litre
@@CycloneCyd I found the GM fluid to be quite noisy. It make a groaning sound in 1st and second now. Gonna try the Castrol with some moly slip like you suggested. Which molyslip did you use? I see there’s lots that call themselves it. Regards

I've done about 300 miles since changing this oil and am VERY pleased with the Mannol. The 'box is a shade quieter, but best of all the change into second is markedly improved.
@@CycloneCyd excellent thanks for that. So your more impressed with the Mannol than the castrol? I might go with that instead
@@Droneguy-be1fy The Castrol was a huge improvement over stock, Torco and Redline. The Mannol is another step up from the Castrol. Second gear selection is much better with the Mannol.
Yes, I prefer the Mannol, but I would happily use the Castrol if I couldn't get it.
The Manol is currently on offer at the ebay link in the description
I love these videos, super helpful and informative!! I am wondering if anyone knows if there are GM compatible clutch kits that will work in a 2009 Saab 93 2.0T 6speed? I’m having a heck of a time trying to find quality parts without spending 800$ + dollars. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I read somewhere that a 2011 Buick regal has the same clutch, but the part numbers are different, does anyone have any experience with this? Thank you!🎉
I've just replaced my clutch. I removed an LUK and replaced it with an LUK. About the best. Change the flywheel too - again I went LUK. Also change the slave cylinder - I went Sachs on that. Was about £430 for parts and £320 at a Saab specialist for labour. aftermarket.schaeffler.com/en/luk-repset
@@CycloneCyd hello , i ve just do the same thing on my 2.0T. LUK dualflywheel , sachs slave cylinder and clutch .... But i still hear rattle noise from Flywheel on idle .... Idea what could cause that?

50Nm (37lbft) for both fill and drain plugs
can anyone tell me how much oil i would need for the 5speed gearbox?.. couldnt find any infos online :/ i read somewhere its 1.9liters in the 5speed but i dont know :D maybe someone can tell me :) thx for any help!
On the mannol packaging it literally says gl4 / gl5 surely you’re going against what you said about not using gl5?!?!
Not at all. It's a GL4 that is GL5 compatible (not all GL4s are).
I'm my Insignia F40 i've pulled 1,85L other people pulled out 1,9L as well and a guy asked Opel and they told him 1,9L so i'll put the full 2L i've got and i should be fine.
I've seen a video of a guy who put 3,5L 😂
Hi Cyd - should I ideally replace both fill and drain plugs, and are they the same part number? I found a UK based eBay seller listing a Vauxhall part no. 11099271 (same as your eSaabParts link) - would that be right? Many thanks.
You should fit new copper crush washers. Replace the plugs if they seem damaged in any way.
There's no need to change the oil in this box. The F40 is bulletproof. Seen many Saab, Alfa Romeo and Insignia diesels over 300.000 miles with the factory oil shifting as new.
I've flushed mine to check how much there was in it and it was very clean at 150 000km.
There was 1,85L.
This guy is nuts to change it so often.
Bought myself a 9-3 last week, found myself scrolling through basically all of your 9-3 videos. Only thing I'm not sure of after this one, for the drain plug - did you replace the washer on there? Anywhere you can find a new one? I'm not having much luck finding any information regarding this on the web
Any 18mm copper crush washer will suffice, but there is a stainless drain plug in the description.
@@CycloneCyd I did not find a washer on the drain plug?
@@koendb5456 is that a question or a statement? There should be a washer on the drain plug. Some plugs you can buy have an integrated rubber seal (similar to the B207 engine sump plug). At the least, use a 18mm copper washer.
@@CycloneCyd actually it's both. I've done 2 gearbox oil changes. 1st time a flush and 2nd a proper refill. Twice I haven't noticed there was a washer. No gearbox oil is leaking though. I've ordered a SS drain plug with rubber seal. Can I reuse the gearbox oil when I change the drain plug?
