    Definitely agree, as a European living in Sydney most people in Europe would drive around 150 on average and in most countries there lane discipline is incredible, yet they are able to maintain clean and very safe roads. We have so much open land and there are many ways to implement safe and efficient highways by raising roads/highways that are flat and capable of going much faster. I think avoiding roadkill such as kangaroos can be seen as avoidable as you may see in Europe with their deers.

      Australia needs to relax some of its speed limits

      When we see lane discipline in Australia (keep left FFS) I'll agree we may have the maturity to work with a higher speed limit. Good point re roadkill

    M1 in NSW used to be 70 mph in cars with drum breaks, crossply tyres and no seat belts. Speeds do need to be higher on main highways, but this needs to be combined with a proper education program. I drive by the three 'C's - Concentration, Conditions and Courtesy.

    It's hard enough to remember to stay under 40 kmh sometimes, especially when you stop at lights and you're first in the line. I often forget I'm in a 40 zone by the time the lights go green. I see others do the same.

    Subaru have a newer engine to replace the FB25 , and have for a couple yrs.. the CB18 , 130kw/300nm, we just don't get here, nor the US. I've had a feeling a smaller capacity or NA version of this may be mated to the future hybrid system, as they're a more compact engine design, and can scale down to small capacities. Anyway I don't think the continued use of the FB25DIT is that unusual, or more disappointing than many other manufactures? , particularly in what they release here.. I mean what engines are in the current non hybrid competition? Outlander, Rav 4.. all the same 2, 2.4 , 2.5 L 4 cyls as previous Gen's

    Couldn't agree more that we need to raise speed limits in sensible areas and increase driver awareness. Too many people are scared behind the wheel and need to either be taught confidence, road etiquette or give up the privilege to make it safer and more efficient for the rest of us.

    Speed limits need to be reduced in residential streets and roads and high pedestrian areas. Traffic intensity has increased enormously and must be slower in critical areas.

    Travelling in the NT on holidays. 130 kph is great. The roads are not that good either. 130 would possibly bring back common sense. Drive to your limits. Most people would probably sit on 120. But all states need to enforce kept left if not overtaking. Especially caravan and side by side trucks taking 10kms to over take each other due to there speed limiters apparently.

    Speed limits should be lower in city areas. It has all to do with safety for pedestrians NOT drivers. And it's to encourage less car dependence. On highways there is more to speed setting than surface, there is geometry, driver behaviour and sight distance etc all which need to be managed. Some highway roads are safely designed for 80kmph, but signposted as 110kmph

    • @hayplain63
      @hayplain63 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CarExpertAus In every vehicle crash where people are killed or seriously injured, despite a number of contributing factors, the speed of the vehicle is the thing that ultimately does all the damage. Even now at 100 kmh a head on with another vehicle or an immovable object with either end your life and others lives or change them forever, no matter how many safety features your vehicle has. It is not necessary to increase this risk. Most Australian roads are not good enough to support limits above 110kmh. Most Australian drivers are not good enough to handle speeds above 110 kmh over prolonged periods. Even on the Hume Highway there are fatal crashes on a regular basis and it is divided. Most of Australia's roads are not divided. If you think the Hume is boring and tiring, pull over and have regular breaks like truck drivers. You WILL get there.
      We have to remember that public roads are for everyone with varying degrees of age, competency and ability, not just young and middle aged men who think they are bulletproof and want to go flat out . Go to a racetrack if you want to drive really fast! Countless drivers just don't want to drive fast and be pressured to drive fast . This view by many who think everyone should drive on or slightly above every limit is seflish and dangerous. Having said that though, there should be a minimum limit on freeways and highways. Driving 30kmh and more below a posted limit is asking for trouble unless you have an escort with flashing lights.
      In my daily life i drive three vehicles on a regular basis- a late model Subaru Forester (plenty powerful enough), a Triton Utility often loaded with gear and heavy trucks...Singles, B Doubles and Road Trains carrying gross weights of up to 85 tonnes. My experience is very solid and i see it all. Having worked with and around machinery all my life , i see little respect for it out on the road. The aggression and arrogance is out of control. Mobile phone use while driving is an epidemic as is tailgating and a dangerous disrespect for solid white lines. The inability of 85 percent of drivers to stop at a stop sign and indicate and merge safely is astounding.
      Car companies now are producing such obscenely powerful cars that we have a real problem. Trucks are speed limited, cars are not. Maybe it should be considered.
      Modern cars are beautiful machines but giving many drivers a false sense of security.....still dead or mangled in a crash at 100 or 110kmh.
      Our road toll is obscenely high, we don't need it to go higher.
