Hey Alex I love your content, I recently got a 2021 Subaru forester and the windows in the back won’t go down all the way. Is there a setting I can change that?

I have the 2023 Forester in top trim. I definitely prefer the air conditioning adjustment knobs over the new digital touch screen. This is simply because you can adjust them while driving. Great video Alex. Keep them coming.
Thanks for this! I just got my 2025 Forester Touring on Saturday. I am LOVING it. I am still going through all the settings so will be referring to your videos for sure. I invoked your name at the dealership. 🙂
This weekend I had a camping buddy's son lock her fob in her 2017 Forester. More people need to watch your videos. She called some lock service. At the campfire I was all like, did you ever hear about the tap code button on the back gate? I THINK from your videos it's new enough model to have that feature, but she had no idea that was possible to set up.
If you deactivate auto stop start when you first get into the car, eventually it will become habitual and you won't even think about it anymore. That's what has happened in my case.
In my opinion they made this look any other SUV on the market now. The Forester always stood out with its own style. Looks more like a Ford Explorer now.
Hi Alex, I have a 2025 Subaru Forester Premium. It does not have the RIB option and the buzzer to prevent me from hitting while backing up . My question is, can I install these options in a way that is compatible with the car and does not cause problems with the computer system and also wiring harness? Does Subaru do this? Can you recommend a place to get this done? I am in Dallas.
I wish the auto stop/start could be permanently disabled in settings and not disabled every time the car is started. Subaru please do it in a software update. That is one feature I hate in my 2023 Outback. One feature I would want is a surround view camera. Blind spot camera rocks as a separate light not just in the mirror as others do it.
It can be eliminated….i just installed an autostop eliminator for my 2022 Outback. It took 10 minutes to install…. I love it….no more annoying stop start. Company has website you can check out.
@@ArBo308 Seconding this. I bought one from the same website for my 2023 Forrester. It cost $99 and I would’ve paid $1000 for it. Super easy to install. I’m not gonna buy another car for another couple of years but if you can’t permanently shut off the auto start stop I’m not gonna buy it. Subaru or not.
upside down cup holders would be a good place for optional trunk lighting as the one in the hatch is totally useless ...lights on the side wall where the rope tie downs are would be an ideal location as the one in the tail gate is blocked by your body when you are loading or unloading
Interesting idea! I checked the accessory list to see if they have an optional light setup. Nothing yet but that could be offered in the future. Or perhaps you could use an aftermarket setup

You have “utility hook” accessories that screw into the upside down cupholders on the rear gate. These same accessory “ utility hooks” I believe also screw into the sides of the cargo area to hold up the newly available cargo shelf. 😎
I’m having trouble with home link on my 2025 Forester. They redesigned the mirror and buttons and I have looked and watched and nobody mentions how it works. Even the owners manual shows the old style mirrors. I have a touring model so know the garage door opener button and compass should be on the mirror, but it’s not there.
I went from '16 Legacy, to '20 Outback, to '22 ford escape (don't ask, long story) but will be getting a 25 forester within a year. I had the large touchscreen in outback. Good to see they moved the auto start/stop to main screen (used to have to go thru 3 or 4 steps to turn off). Question... I did not like how the built in nav took the entire screen & to switch XM stations, had to go back to main menu & choose that app. Is there a way to split the screen, top portion nav, and still show pre-selected radio stations across bottom of screen? Also, Is there any other benefit to factory nav, or is it just fine with android auto nav (i don't have apple)? You know your stuff, I'd buy a car from you.
Great video Alex , I heard that Apple iOS 18 released this fall is only going to support wireless CarPlay, for Subarus do you know how that will effect my. 2024. Forester premium moving forward which is still plug in only ? Will I still be able to use CarPlay for years to come? Not sure to what degree Subaru on there end supports different versions of CarPlay
Are they going back to painting the underside of the hood and engine compartment? I was a little taken aback with my 22 FW hood and engine compartment that looked like primer grey with some overspray body color kinda feathered in. Made me wonder what else was 'close enough' on the rest of the car.
Question: I rather use my Garmen GPS which plugs into the area where a cigarette lighter goes in my 2014 Impreza. I do not want to use my phone as a GPS as service can go in and out. Is the feature to plug in a Garmen GPS into such a “charger” or whatever it is called still available on the Forester and other Subarus? I really enjoy my Garmen than a phone as my GPS! Thanks for your informative videos!
so the only way for now to get the old style in a new forester is to pay $40,000? also i just checked, on the subaru website and you can't even spec out a forester wilderness when doing a build and price check
I'm wondering if they discontinued the Wilderness models due to emissions BS since the Wilderness models got slightly less fuel economy....not that a regular model got very good fuel economy in the first place. I wanted a Forester Wilderness, but seems how nothing has been said about them in the 2025's I'm glad I didn't bother looking into getting one.
We replace our 2021 with a 2025 Forester touring. We love the car except that the heated seats only get to 88 degrees! Spoke to Subaru customer advocacy people who said the seats are performing "as designed". Sure hope they can fix this issue because they don't get nearly as warm as our 2021 heated seats.
I like your videos. I just think Subaru made a bad decision on not making a Forester XT. Slow sales is what I learned, but Subaru puts a turbo on the Ascent. I have a 2016 XT Forester and will never get rid of it. I'm just disappointed now the Forester is a grandma car now 😢😢
Bring back the Forester XT, make a minivan, and don't reset the auto start-stop on each ignition cycle. For fuck's sake just leave the auto start-stop in the last setting it was set to.
Hey Alex-love your videos-Quick question-the hands-free option on the back hatch is a great addition-but you lose it if a hitch is installed for a bike carrier. Can you tell me if the dimensions of the 2025 back hatch are identical to the 2024 model? I found a bike carrier/rack approved for the 2024 Forester but not yet tested on the 2025. Will REALLY appreciate your help because finding a non-hitch bike carrier for the Forester is a challenge! Many thanks.
The dimensions are almost identical so there is a good chance it will fit. I would however check the return policy for the rack you intend to buy in the event it doesn't fit and you need to use something different. Since the 2025 Forester just started arriving to dealerships in June, I'm sure many 3rd party companies haven't had a chance yet to confirm compatibility. But over the next few months I'd imagine that will change.
@@alexpmo Excellent, Alex-thank you. Other cars with the hands free-liftgate option came up with a way for the sensor to be relocated-do you think that will happen with Subaru? Since they pride themselves for being the outdoor/active brand it seems incredible that they have forced consumers to choose between a hitch and a new hands-free liftgate.
I have a 2011 forester and going on a trip in 2 weeks. How do I connect my android phone so it plays though the radio for wake or any other gps directions?
unfortunately, the 2011 Forester doesn't have android auto capabilities. You would have to upgrade to an aftermarket head unit for this. This came out first on the Forester starting with the 2019 model year.
that auto start stop has been proven to be absolutely useless and even detrimental to emissions besides being dangerous in real life driving when making a left turn across traffic
I don't find it to be a bother. I've gotten used to it. There are times when I am surprised that it doesn't stop the engine. I haven't thought enough about it to determine what the parameters are. Plus it can always be defeated with the switch on the dashboard. The purpose of this is to reduce emissions. As the engine is stopped, I can't see how that is detrimental to emissions.
Auto start stop is the worst thing ever invented for cars. It serves no purpose and the fuel saving is negligible. I turn mine off every time I start my car. Hopefully the manufacturer puts in a stronger starter and better battery to deal with the extra times the engine turns off and back on. Also how is the engine not prone to excessive wear due to oil pressure going down when it shuts off and then back up when it turns on?
For auto Start-Stop Subaru has single customized option - "Turn signal ON stop prohibition". But default setting value is Permit (Auto Start Stop is activated even when the turn signal is operating). If you really need to Auto Start Stop is not activated when the turn signal is operating - you need go to dealer to set value Prohibit for this option.
The lack of auto start/stop is one reason I'm glad I bought a 2018 Forester. That, and no special battery requirement that makes do-it-yourself battery replacement a pita, no direct injection with carbon buildup worries, no pita thermo control valve (removed in the 2025), actual physical buttons for seat warmers, no silly looking taillights as in the '19-'24 model years, and a half-second faster 0-60 than later models even with less hp, just off the top of my head.
We were shocked that our 25 Touring didnt come with homelink. Also, no hood struts. I know..kind of nit picky, but sure does seem as if Sub is penny pinching. It is a very nice car and a big step up from our 17.
Got a question on the 2025 Forester Touring I just leased. I have the 11" screen. When switching into reverse, the backup mirror appears on the top left portion of the screen and to it's right, it has another screen that shows the car from above. Is there a way to show the backup screen across the whole top portion of the screen? The view on the left upper portion is so squeezed in, you cannot see very much. I'm coming from a 2021 Ascent where the backup screen was much more viewable even on a smaller screen. I've searched thru settings but cannot enlarge the backup screen at all. Thanks, Bob
@@bjharada look for a camera icon on the lower left side of the screen while in reverse. This should give you the ability to change the view of the camera. It should switch between the regular view and the 360 view that now comes on the touring trim
@alexpmo that's what I went with... I miss their fun colors they use to come out with... also the nice deep blue/purple with red accent on the Sport. I'm not a fan of the bronze (or brown as I call it) on the 2025 Sport..
Yes it doesn’t work very well. We just use a cable. It can just help keep your phone alive but if you are looking for something to charge fast it’s not that wireless charger
I'm curious as to whether the Wilderness models will continue or not. Seems the reviews aren't mentioning it, so sadly I think maybe it was a short lived package that actually had me interested in a Subaru Forester due to the added ground clearance and the modified AWD programming.
😢 I'm so disappointed with Subaru dropping the turbo XT .. im either going to buy a low mileage JDM XT and refresh my wife's car or ...our new Forester might be a Ford Everest Titanium 4x4 😅
If you take the badges off most of these crossovers they all look the same. Yet, none of them are all that great, nor justify the ridiculous prices. Have to say that at least Subaru for the most part has kept their prices somewhat more reasonable than every other automaker. I just hope they aren't discontinuing the Wilderness models, I'd love a Forester Wilderness....since its just me I don't need a larger car, but the extra bit of ground clearance and the programming for the AWD is a great deal for the random winters we get here in Idaho. I just can't afford the payments on one so its gonna be a while LOL.
Hope you all enjoyed this one! Comment below with any questions you have! Also, what do you think the "upside down cupholders" are used for? 😂

Tailgate "cupholders" are for hanging clothes on a hanger or if camping a privacy screen.
Just curious, How do you hang something?
I've seen the new 2025 at my dealer. I'm glad I bought a 2024. The employees at my dealership have been joking that it looks like a Ford Explorer. 😢
Exactly, what I said,I personally think that 2023 & 2024 looks better than 2025. Maybe engineers in Japan are not familiar with Explorers 🤦
Yes! You can still use your Garmin with the 12v power located just behind the gear shift
@@alexpmo thanks!
@@alexpmo is that something you could film on one of your videos by pointing it out? I do not notice it when you do show this area.
Can anyone advise regarding this 11.6” Screen in cold weather (Canada) ?
so the only way for now to get the old style in a new forester is to pay $40,000? also i just checked, on the subaru website and you can't even spec out a forester wilderness when doing a build and price check
На самом деле замечательная машина ,на каждый день .Со своей харизмой.
Charger area would benefit from off center device charging
We replace our 2021 with a 2025 Forester touring. We love the car except that the heated seats only get to 88 degrees! Spoke to Subaru customer advocacy people who said the seats are performing "as designed". Sure hope they can fix this issue because they don't get nearly as warm as our 2021 heated seats.
I believe there is a service bulletin put out to update the software for this. Check with your dealer
@@kwasidapaah8383 Thank you. I will ask again on my next visit.
I might have missed it, but do any of them have auto-folding mirrors?
unfortunately, no
Hey Alex will there be a 2025 Wilderness edition?
I don't believe we'll get another Wilderness until this time next year for the 2026 model year.
Does Subaru fixed the big Thermo Control Valve defect on 2025 cars ?
Remote start should be free. Not part of a subscription. If all you want is remote start, it should be free.
I like your videos. I just think Subaru made a bad decision on not making a Forester XT. Slow sales is what I learned, but Subaru puts a turbo on the Ascent. I have a 2016 XT Forester and will never get rid of it. I'm just disappointed now the Forester is a grandma car now 😢😢
Nothing against grandma...
The tires are bigger on the touring
Bring back the Forester XT, make a minivan, and don't reset the auto start-stop on each ignition cycle. For fuck's sake just leave the auto start-stop in the last setting it was set to.
What happened to the garage door opener button once located on the rear view mirror?
Great question! Still trying to figure that one out myself
Is there going to be a 2025 forester wilderness?
Hi Alex can help me get service manual of Subaru wrx 2023
My 2025 forester wilderness has some blue stitching along with the copper stitching accents. Its hard to see since the copper is more prominent.
Oh, that's cool! I've never noticed that
@@alexpmo if you still have any 2024 wilderness on the lot, check it out :)
This came out first on the Forester starting with the 2019 model year.
yes dashboard 🔥multimedia system same as outback
that auto start stop has been proven to be absolutely useless and even detrimental to emissions besides being dangerous in real life driving when making a left turn across traffic
The auto start stop is something I am totally use too. Also in Vancouver traffic saved me a ton of money @ $2.05 a ltr
It is a very nice car and a big step up from our 17.
oh no! I do agree that's surprising. Must be new because the Outback Touring and Ascent Touring that share the same mirror have the homelink
That is a surprise... my 2025 Limited came with the homelink mirror.
Have they fixed the Thermo Control Valve issue with this new generation via a more reliable part?
Yes. They don't use one.
I believe they went back to a mechanical T/S! They apparently realized the TCV was a failure.
Can you tell my local dealership to start buying colors other than black and white?
we got a lot of whites ones also. My guess is that Subaru expects to sell a ton of white
@alexpmo that's what I went with... I miss their fun colors they use to come out with... also the nice deep blue/purple with red accent on the Sport. I'm not a fan of the bronze (or brown as I call it) on the 2025 Sport..
@@virgilkirkland1205 I’m just looking for a green one. Every time I check they’re just getting new white ones.
2020 Forester is bigger than 2025, try checking the width through the cargo cover
OK, it’s starting to grow on me. But the wheels look awkward like they need to be bigger and wider to fill it out.
Hi! I’ve heard some feedback that the wireless charging doesn’t work well because the phone slides around on it. Has anyone else seen this?
Yes it doesn’t work very well. We just use a cable. It can just help keep your phone alive but if you are looking for something to charge fast it’s not that wireless charger
Looking forward to the Wilderness model….???
I'm curious as to whether the Wilderness models will continue or not. Seems the reviews aren't mentioning it, so sadly I think maybe it was a short lived package that actually had me interested in a Subaru Forester due to the added ground clearance and the modified AWD programming.
The Wilderness will be coming to the 2025 Forester. It's unclear when it will receive the new design though.
😢 I'm so disappointed with Subaru dropping the turbo XT .. im either going to buy a low mileage JDM XT and refresh my wife's car or ...our new Forester might be a Ford Everest Titanium 4x4 😅
I’m not a fan of the new look. The front reminds me of an Explorer and the rear looks like the last gen Mitsubishi Outlander.
No xt😢
Not in love with the redesign. Plus the sport version looks downright ugly. Brown wheels?
I think the new Sport looks better than the previous Sport. Most people didn't like the red accents on the Sport so the brown has been a good change.
Fantastic ... not super hot Turbo !!!
Kind of looks like a Explorer from the front.
That and the Honda Pilot 😅
@@alexpmo Lol True looks exactly like the 2013 explorer front end just a bit more refined. I like it.
2025 has more torque at lower RPM’s
Huge touchscreen is the weakest point of the new model
Fordaru Explorxter
Yes 😂
I don’t like the new design. It looks like a Ford edge. Which if I wanted to Ford edge I’d buy one. I just don’t like the new design.
REALLY not a fan of the new design. Very bland. Doesn't look like a Subaru anymore, IMO.
It will take some getting used to like any other new redesign
I do not like the new rims that come on the forester for 2025
I do not care for the new exterior design at all, especially the grille. Ugly
