I only discovered Kathy Kirby in the last few days. I bought a CD, book, and her autograph. Her voice is mesmerizing! It's so very good and unequalled by any one. I love female British singers from the 60s. Kathy Kirby was not one of the Beat girls by any means. Kathy was unique and I am astonished she didn't have recognition in the US. She was truly Great.
Listen to Kathy’s “The way of love “ which was a regional hit in the USA just making the lower reaches of the Hot 100. In 1965 .Her manager Bert Ambrose refused to let her go to America ,and bad management and mental problems curtailed her career .
I think this is one of the best songs she ever sang, there is & never will be any other woman singer to be as lovely & beautiful as her that can sing like she could, she could hold the notes so well
Brian Mayhead, I'm 60 Y/O, vaguely remember Kathy Kirby as a then 5 y/o boy. Sarah Vaughan floored me then & now with her voice and sexy beauty, especially video recordings (1949-50) before I was born. RIP Sarah.
What a great singer, just heard this song on the radio, she sings it just as good live. Beats the pants of so called singers today even when she hits that high note holds it where as some todays commercial opera singers would be warbling. With her stunning looks and voice should have been far more popular. Sad that later she had some metal illness. R.I.P. lovely singer and lady.
Same here, I heard it on 'Sounds of the Sixties' this morning and just had to youtube it. Fabulous Singer, what a voice she had. Me Dad Luvved her and me Mam hated her, and now I can see why ha ha . Nice posting this isn't it . xx
happychappy12 yes "Sound of the Sixties" is where I heard it. I listen every week. I remember seeing her a few times when I was just a lad and even then thought she was a bit of a stunner. I recall her lips were always had a shine to them. There were few good singers such as Matt Munro, round at the time that never made real transition into the rock and roll/pop, fortunately Dusty did.
I remember worshipping Kathy when I was a teenager, I had a signed portrait photograph and a scrapbook of cuttings from newspapers and magazines, now sadly long gone. Such a short sad life for this beautiful, sexy and talented lady. RIP
Amazing vocals......how she holds that note on...".....M E E E " its like...lets not worry about taking a breathe.....straight into the next line..........From memory only Sinatra had this gift........you don't get this at all these days.
Was there some sort of conspiracy to not promote her on the radio in the USA out of fear of her outshing and outselling her rivals over here? This is the only theory I can come up with. What a splendid and powerful God-given voice!
On this day in 1964 {April 17th} Kathy Kirby performed "You're the One"* on the British ITV network television program, 'Ready Steady Go!'.... "You're the One" entered the United Kingdom's Top 50 Singles chart on May 7th, 1964 at position #36, three weeks later it would peak at #17 {for 1 week} and it spent nine weeks on the Top 50... Besides "You're the One", the London native had four other Top 50 records; "Dance On! {#11 in 1963}, "Secret Love" {#4 in 1963}, "Let Me Go, Lover!" {#10 in 1964}, and "I Belong" {#36 in 1965}... Ms. Kirby, born Kathleen O'Rourke, passed away at the age of 72 on May 19th, 2011... May she R.I.P. * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department; the week "You're the One" peaked at #17 there was another 'You're' record on the Top 50 at the time, "You're My World" by Petula Clark was the #1 record for that week...
You're the one : You?re the one that I sigh for The one that I even lie for The one that I even die for You?re the lover that I cry for Oh my darling hear me sighing For you left me sad and lonely Can't you see, my one and only Oh, my darling, hear me crying Can't you see my heart is dying Come to me Oh, I implore you I love everything about you My life is nothing without you Come back, come back, come back to me Oh, I implore you I love everything about you My life is nothing without you Oh my lover
Can you remember what the next song was called? I can hear it now but its name escapes me. It was good. Something about a "rock and roll band since 1922"!
A wonderful voice but I have to cringe at the rewrite of the original lyrics which were far superior. Not the singer's fault but they could have done a much better job tracking the original verses.
What a singer, just discovered this fabulous amazing voice...Ordered her best of album.. can't wait to blast her singing in my car.
She was amazing ....pity we do not have such singers now 2018
Viva Kathy.!..Her voice will go on.What a time it must have been in the 1960’s for music.Just brilliant.!❤️👍
A tremendously talented and beautiful lady. Such a lovely voice. In different circumstances she really could have conquered the world.
Amazing.. wonderful

Of all the 60s female vocalists, I think she had the best voice. I'm not surprised that her first singing lessons were in the direction of opera.
What a voice!
Wow! Amazing voice and she was beautiful too.

That voice is superb !

Didn't appreciate it at the time, but Kathy had a wonderful voice. R.I.P.Miss Kirby.
What a voice!!!! ❤❤❤
Magic, just magic! Wish I'd have been there!
They didn't come any better than Kathy Kirby. She was sensational.
So many notes and progressions I heard from 1970’s Japanese mecha anime music ! Especially Go Nagai’s dayum!
After doing research on the Spanish song Malagueña Saleroso origins, I discovered theirs an English version. Who knew?!! Love it!
Maravilhosa a cantora e a versão adorei.

Toutes les grâces en une femme Et cette voix

You're My World was recorded by CILLA BLACK! Very odd, indeed, that it takes an "American" like me to set the facts straight for you!
You're the one :
You?re the one that I sigh for
The one that I even lie for
The one that I even die for
You?re the lover that I cry for
Oh my darling hear me sighing
For you left me sad and lonely
Can't you see, my one and only
Oh, my darling, hear me crying
Can't you see my heart is dying
Come to me
Oh, I implore you
I love everything about you
My life is nothing without you
Come back, come back, come back to me
Oh, I implore you
I love everything about you
My life is nothing without you
Oh my lover
And a big fine bairn to boot!
great
I loved her I could watch her breath all night (( * _ * ))
Our Marilyn
Fascinating... But my vote still goes for the Original Mexican rendition.

Agree she should have sung a Bond theme
None of the Autotune Fannies can Sing Like this Lady.
No autotune here...no foldback or monitors...just pure talent

I'm a die-hard fan for Cilla Black & for Dusty Springfield. Kirby's voice seems rather 'hard' to me
Loved Kathy.......but hated her manager

Acapulco '22.
I think it was her boy friend who held her back,he had such a hold over her. Paul beynon
@@paulbeynon9835 Yes the band leader Ambrose . She sang with his band,
Malagueña. Good for "ñ".
