Her success in the U.S . was minor. There were years...the British Musical Invasion when the American public turned their back on their homegrown vocalists... But KK was not an American favourite. Cher had a big hit with a Kathy Kirby U.K. hit.

Kathy Kirby was one of the best pop singers this country ever produced,the only other girl singer that came anywhere near her in looks and talent was Dusty.
I'd say Shirley Bassey. In that they were the both ex big band singers. Dusty was more contemporary and more influenced by soul and r&b. She might have done this song but she would have done it slightly differently and phrased it differently. Just as good but different.
Odd how the British accent doesn't comes out when they sing, depending, I suppose on the region. With the Irish and Scots, it's another matter. Very enjoyable video.

The overbearing influence of Ambose meant she sang older tunes and he never let her join the 'pop culture'. Her biggest 'hits' were covers of songs from at least 10 years back. Consequently she never developed a 'pop' style of singing.
Her Wiki page will shock most of you...When she was a teen she dated a 60-year-old married man and admitted to having an affair with Bruce Forsyth at the same time....and that's just for starters..

Fabulous! I believe she was classically trained and it shows in her vocal range. We miss you Kathy, I hope you are still singing in heaven.
