You are only 3 more Tool songs away from realizing they are the greatest band on the planet. Note a lot of their songs go together so be careful or the Tool Army gets pissed 😂. As others have suggested, start with their first album and go through their entire catalog. The Tool Army will turn out in droves. Also get the lyrics up and only ever do the audio, no videos. #spiralout
The reason it sounds so random during that soft breakdown is because these guys are the masters of polyrhythms. The drummer, Danny Carrey is especially well versed in polyrhythmic drumming. During that section each band member is playing a different rhythm and every few bars or so it all lines up. It’s beautiful, controlled chaos. Just wait till you get deeper into their discography. Enjoy the spiral brother. The Tool army is here for it 🌀
Once you listen to this particular song over and over again, you'll realise that this is one of the best (if not the best) song ever produced. Spiral out 🌀
r.e. technical, Tool is known as being one of the most progressive metal-adjacent bands around. They play with multiple polyrhythms throughout most songs, and Maynard's writing typically has at least a couple possible second or third meanings. Tool is an experience. Its not the music you knew.
r.e. Adam jones' tonality, he's known for having one of the best curated mixes/effects, and he keeps it very tight to the chest. You are right that he doesn't do things normally.
sorry to keep leaving you comments, but you asked, and for that reason: Maynard James Keenan is the front man/vocalist for no less than three bands, to include Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. He can play things, but he's a lyrical and melodic genius.
I like that he immediately understood that he was listening to greatness. Road nailed it with the breakdown. We’ve all been listening over and over for decades and we still can’t put our finger on how/why it’s so awesomely soul changing. Just great to see someone bathe in the fountain 😁🌀
You raise a good point. Most people when they first hear tool don't like it. That is the say they might think they like it but they don't like it as much as they soon will like it if they continue to listen to tool. It's simply because they're so unique. It's what makes their music timeless also. You see the mainstream rock and roll hits people either instantly like or they don't. People instantly get hooked when they do like it. However like any cheap drug it very quickly stops working. Tool will never stop working for you. For the same reason one must have enough experience with tool to really understand. So you might think you like this song right now but I assure you the more you listen to it the more you're going to like it and that's going to be for a long time like that ...
Danny Carey from tool is a monster on the drums. One of the greatest drummers ever. You should check out the live drum cam of him performing “pneuma” by tool. It is amazing! Great reaction sir! Also, I subbed ever since you dropped the first tool reaction. I’m here for the journey.
Love watching new Tool fans. You really can’t go wrong with choosing your next song, their entire catalogue is amazing. Another artist you should check out if you haven’t already is Rage Against the Machine. They were friends with Tool and had a couple appearances on each other’s albums. They rock hard, and have even harder lyrics.
There is no other band that creates a sonic soundscape like TOOL. It literally creates an auditory journey for your mind. Absolute masters of their craft and a blessing for the rest of us that get to experience it.
To answer your question... Maynard(vocals) uses his voice as an instrument... the mathematics of their music relates to alchemy, gematria, esotericism, hermetic principles of healing through harmonics and frequencies, and philosophical principles of Plato and Carl Jung among others. The music is just a way to express their spirituality for others to enjoy and hopefully expand their mind and soul. You have only scratched the surface... the lyrics are soooooooo important to fully comprehend what they are doing.
Most people have no idea about Gematria or Hermetic principles, good on you. I think 10,000 Days is a timer. Exactly 10,000 days after the release of Aenema is February 3rd 2024. I think it's the day Arizona Bay is created. I'm prayin for rain I'm prayin for tidal waves.
The floods are coming... the west coast will be hit first, then the slosh back hits the east coast. There will be a new coastline and Arizona will have new oceanfront beaches. Soon, people will have to confront their ignorance and hubris to survive this in 10 to 20 years. Our electromagnetic protection from the suns radiation is waiting quickly and its causing havoc in the earths core... the days lengths are changing and catastrophic change is going to flip the world on its head.
Subbing for more Tool reactions! My friend, this is just the tip of the iceberg, Tool is by far the best band of the past 30 years maybe ever. I can tell already that you get it. Start from the beginning of the band and react to their whole discography. The Tool Army will follow 🤘🏻🌀
Personally my favorite Tool song is Right In Two, please give it a listen. Loooove the progression of the sung, plus I'm a sucker for the imagery of angels watching humanity and making commentary on why God made humans they way he did. It's awesome
IMO, if he does listen to right in two, it should be intension + right in two. Right in two is pretty amazing in its own right, but I recently read the lyrics to intension (never been a huge fan) and realized it leads right into right in two and now I only want to hear them in that order.
This is my favorite T♡♡L song. As a 33 year army fan of this my fav band since 1990 it is the best feeling to see new T😂🤣L virgins react to each song LMAO it brings a smile to my face each every time I see a new army member join like this. For 33 years everyday I have deeply listened to this band best band in the world 🌎 Nobody can hold a candle 🕯 to 🤘🏼T🎧🎧L🤘🏼
Welcome to the Tool army. 4 instruments Danny/drums, Justin/bass, Adam/guitar, Maynard/vocals. You have now entered the precipice, prepare to have your mind blown!
I'm going to enjoy watching you grow to realize that Tool is the truth lol. The real deal. Complex..deep meanings... mathematics. It's exactly what I felt in 93. Welcome to the Tool Army Sir. Listen to what the previous peeps have said. The Tool army is real and very very loyal. Great content. I look forward to more.
This song is based off of the Fibonacci Sequence. The Fibonacci spiral shows up in most natural things. It's truly amazing once you look up the number sequence, and then go through how the song is sung.
The music is written first, then Maynard comes in and writes his lyrics and the rhythm of his words to the music! ❤ Maynard was a choir geek like me in highschool! 😁
Maynards voice is considered an instrument all of it's own in the band. A musical instrument cannot be bought, taught or replicated by anyone else on earth 😎
This is the best song ever, in my humble opinion by the way. It’s my favorite one! I could say, Tool saved my life, and currently I need more Tool to heal my pain. I loved your reaction brother.
There’s nothing wrong with these being the first 2 Tool songs you have reacted to; and despite getting comments to start from their first album to witness Tool’s musical journey. I believe your next reaction needs to be: Puemna - Danny Carey drum-cam by Vic Firth!! Once you see his drumming performance in that video you will get a greater appreciation of how “technical” of musicians they all are. Next few suggestions: Puemna - Danny Carey drum-cam The Grudge Vicarious
For me, listening to Tool is like a ride in a wild river. There are moments of peace, there are moments of craziness, but overall, there is a natural flow that you can't control.
There is a way to bop with TOOL bro... Half a bottle of Johnny Blue, followed by an Elaine (Seinfeld) boogie. Try it! The inward collapsing knee motions, coupled with the outward thumb movements somehow match the constant changes within their music 💃 😂 Lovin your reactions mate! 4 days in, and already using your content to unwind from a hard working, highly stressful week. You're now my favourite Sydney-Sider. This Mexican (aka Melbourne boy) has never had one of those before. The magic of TOOL hey... Music without borders ✌
The best description of Tool I ever heard...this is going to sound nuts.... The friend who introduced me to Tool, a musician in his own right, said it like this, and I’m paraphrasing...”if you’ve ever heard young children who have no idea how to play an instrument, yet want to start a band because they think it’s cool--The first time they play together would be scattered, ridiculous, chaotic nonsense. Well, Tool are those young children. but, unlike those kids, Tool has, somehow, mastered how to play music chaotically,...with order.” It makes sense if you think about it.
It’s always really fun to see someone listen to a band for the first time. Can’t wait to see your journey in all aspects of music! This is why rock and metal thrive, because even today they reach new members… fuck yeah 🤘🏻🔥 Move with the music!! Don’t worry about it just find the grooves lol #FEEL #DOIT
Honestly it's at the the 13:02 part of YOUR video when shit gets real. The "intro" to the "outro" is what separates this tune from every other song ever written. Masterpiece, indeed.
It sounds like "controlled randomness" the first time. Listen to the song 4 more times, and you will begin to hear all the different threads that make up the beautiful weave of this (and every) Tool song.
Tool: Vocalist: Maynard james Keenan (who also have two more projects: A Perfect Circle an Puscifer) Bass: Justin Chancellor Drums: Danny Carey (aka The Octopus) Guitar: Adam Jones (great visual artist too..he worked in the make up and design in Jurassic Park and Terminator movies among others) They won the Grammy in 2021 for best metal performance. Tool developed his own style and genre starting with Hard Rock as a base in the first two albums. PD: The Cnunkyness, The Choppyness, The Crunchyness. Those words stuck in my head man.. I can't stop repeating them!..LOL
When this album came out I was blown away to put it mildly. I got to see them live on the 10,000 days tour. They didn't play a single song from Undertow (including Sober), they didn't play The Pot and they played a couple of songs I wasn't expecting and it was still mind blowing. I wanted the show to go on forever. You will enjoy A Perfect Circle & Puscifer as well. MJK is a freaking mad man.
Awesome seeing you being introduced to Tool. Their entire catalogue is brilliant, with pretty much no bad songs. Some more that show off some of their musical genius: Pneuma Danny Carey drum-cam, 46&2, Descending, The Grudge. Pretty much any recommendation that you get on here is guaranteed to be incredible and a musical journey
I legit, literally nearly just jumped outta' my DAMN skin when you started talking and I heard your accent and realised you're an AUSSIE!!? (Not enough Australians do Tool Reactions on TH-cam unfortunately) 'So good to see you' ^ (a reference to their song Third Eye) #YEAHTHEBOIIIIIS #SPIRALOUT #KEEPGOING 🔧🎶🌀🖤🤘🏻
The next best thing to listening to Tool for the first time is watchng/listening to someone's reaction to them. If you continue then you are in for a treat my man.
picture it like this... Maynard is the seconds and the band is the minutes and hours... basically "time" iitself just figured that out now! thank you legal stuff! 😅enjoyed this very much! so glad I know this band from the start (almost) and now people are reacting to them! you guys must stop before they go popular! 😅 nah! ha ha! just glad I can relive some of the discovery through you! plus I'm older and better with details now so I really can enjoy turning the guitare, voice and drums out to push more on that bass and other details like that! if you want some great T00L reactions I suggest the channel Geebz! he even has some great insights on how things were done on the recordings! great reactions from you! hope you had a chance to read the lyrics too? T00L army for ever!
I love the joke built into this song. See, its a very complex song (the rhythm of the lyrics is based on the Fibonacci number sequence, plus all the rest of the musical and time signature complexity) and yet the lyrics are about how we should stop over thinking everything and just enjoy the ride.
Also their time signatures are hard to follow, don’t try to bounce your head. I normally sway when I hear them, try to focus on the music and feeling and just enjoy the experience. Like this song says “Over thinking and over analyzing separates the body from the mind.”
Hello fellow Aussie 👍.. loved your reaction. I subscribed specifically to witness you be awakened to your Tool senses. You will not be disappointed by any of it. Enjoy!! ya legend 🤙
Alright homie. I’ve been saving this one. Thanks for sharing. Let’s go! 5:18 Yea it’s virtually impossible to “head bop” Tool on the first couple listens (typically). Just try to sit back and take it in would be my advice. Peace! 10:30 I’m no musician but told Danny chooses to play certain parts on the *and* as in the “1 AND the two” 14:35 Maynard James Keenan is a vocalist. One of the best ever. His rhythm and taste are trancendant 16:17 moar Tool
That part you mentioned in the middle is the band playing in 6 but Danny is playing in 5. So that’s why the snare hits sound different every measure, but they meet up after 5 rounds of 6 for the band and 6 rounds of 5 for Danny. I love the math involved haha
I had to pause watching you to offer some advice some other Tool fan will eventually comment to you. Never watch the Tool music video if it’s the first time you hear their song always studio. Their music videos are made to be disturbing at times and rarely have anything to do with the song itself. They only made them so they could air their songs on MTV. Come back to their music videos on a second round later once you understand tools humor and quality. Second always have their lyrics up because Maynard the singer is a poet and has some deep shit to say. Also his voice is viewed as an instrument, his voice is in the back of the mix since the music and especially the drums are upfront. The music is the cake and his singing and lyrics are like the icing on top. Maynard James Keenan (Lead Singer and writer of all the lyrics), Danny Carey, ( a literal giant 6’7” prior jazz drummer nicknamed the Octopus because he is able to play 4 different tempos on each of his limbs.), Justin Chancellor (Best Bass Gitarist who typically plays with a pick instead of his fingers.) Last and not least Adam Jones one of the most technical and creative guitarist you will ever hear. He is the guy who designed and created the few Tool music videos. He was a movie special effects artist before joining tool, he worked with Spielberg and Tim Burton.) Best band ever! Check out Parabol/Parabola next, it was my first Tool song and they are meant to played together, try to play Parabol into Parabola without a pause. 🤜🛠️👁️🌀 Spiral Out!
You stopped and used the word random several times describing what you were hearing, then later in the song, the vocalist encourages us to embrace the random. Dude, you’re getting things on first listen without lyrical context that took me years to understand. I’ve watched tons of these react videos, and you’re grooving on it closest to how I envision my listening experience. Love it. Channel is an absolute banger!
haha yeah the headbanging challenges when listening to Tool. They give you that long progression of strange time signatures until they hit you with the 4/4 and the pit goes crazy.
The "random snares" section, isn't; it's polyrhythms. The rest of the band are playing in 6/8 time and Danny (drummer) is playing in 5/8. So they come into synch every 30 beats, or every fifth band measure and every sixth drummer measure. 🔥🤘🏽😎 Which makes the final section (outro) sound so solid and cohesive at 4/4 time.
This is a deep one for sure. Glad you're on board, man! To be fair, you were warned about the timing. LOL What's insane is a lot of the time Danny (the drummer) is playing one off-time signature, while the strings are playing a different off-time signature, but they eventually line up. Maynard (the singer) is strictly vocals.
Always love to see music listeners discover tool. I don't think you need to worry about "being ready" to hear a song as you seem to listen with not only an open mind but with discipline for the tougher parts as well. Just make sure the multi tracked songs are paired together and you'll be fine. A sub and a request for Vicarious next in your Tool journey your reactions are appreciated!
Take your pick of any other Tool song honestly. Love to see your reaction to these: 46 & 2 Ænema Schism Parabol + Parabola Right in Two Jambi Vicarious Pneuma Descending Culling Voices Invincible
You have no idea yet what kind of a journey you are about to enter. But you have nothing to worry about, the tool army will be with you all the way. I have just subscribed- spiral out! 🌀🌀🌀
I had to hear it about 11 times before I came to this conclusion, but... THIS is the bestest tune ever written. In any genre. Displacing A CHANGE IS GONNA COME by Sam Cooke, in my opinion. The sonic journey and the philosophical lyrics elevate LATERALUS to a historical place. Seriously. There are plenty of other contenders for greatest epic pop songs of all time (American Pie, Stairway to Heaven, etc;..) but once one is able to cope with the overt heaviness of the music? Well, LATERALUS is simply unmatched. The fact that it is still, to this day, pretty obscure? That only makes it extra special.
Lateralus has been my favorite tool song the longest, but it didn't hit for me on the first few listens. I remember wondering why so many lists and fans said it was their favorite. Seems like you have musical background though, and were able to ride along. Loved the reaction! If you need a few suggestions, Parabol/Parabola (together!), 46&2, or the live drum cam of Pnuema would all be great reacts. Parabol/a is from this album, and has a similar cerebral feel. 46&2 is an earlier album - more aggressive and self realization. Finally, Pnuema is off their latest album. Very complex, but extremely smooth and mature. They don't have a bad song; Though some are more accessible than others, and better for later in your journey. Can't wait for more!
sevsimo reacts Tool did for music in the 90s what Pink Floyd did for music in the late 60s and 70s. Both bands are so talented beyond the highest levels, and both bands pushed the envelope of what music is/can be. My fav song of all time is Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd. I heard it when I was 9. I pretty much totally got it. But sadly, I didn't know the artist or title, and didn't hear it again til I was 24. Best song ever written or performed. Welcome to the Machine, bro. PLZ, PLZ, PLZ react to it. Where have you been? It's alright, we know where you've been!!!
You are only 3 more Tool songs away from realizing they are the greatest band on the planet. Note a lot of their songs go together so be careful or the Tool Army gets pissed 😂. As others have suggested, start with their first album and go through their entire catalog. The Tool Army will turn out in droves. Actual top tier Tool fan advice
Don;t try to read the lyrics while listening to the song. Way too distracting. Either read them first, or after, not during.
@@corey6393 Can't say i really agree with that one
I love Tool so much that they're the only reaction videos I ever watch. It's a vicarious joy.

Tool developed his own style and genre starting with Hard Rock as a base in the first two albums.
PD: The Cnunkyness, The Choppyness, The Crunchyness. Those words stuck in my head man.. I can't stop repeating them!..LOL
thanks for the comment and the info my friend much appreciated!
hahaha glad to hear that man that's what this song was!
Some more that show off some of their musical genius:
Pneuma Danny Carey drum-cam, 46&2, Descending, The Grudge. Pretty much any recommendation that you get on here is guaranteed to be incredible and a musical journey
I legit, literally nearly just jumped outta' my DAMN skin when you started talking and I heard your accent and realised you're an AUSSIE!!?
(Not enough Australians do

Welcome Friend
... Tool is an experience. I'm glad you've found them :)
The next best thing to listening to Tool for the first time is watchng/listening to someone's reaction to them. If you continue then you are in for a treat my man.
The lyrics are to all their songs are def worth reading. The drum cam of the live song PNEUMA is outstanding.
picture it like this...
I guess another project of Maynard is going to be next! A perfect circle- Judith ! Lets go! Can't wait for your reaction :)
Welcome- we’ve been waiting for you to enter the rabbit hole of Tool. You’re knuckle deep inside the borderline… 😊
Also their time signatures are hard to follow, don’t try to bounce your head. I normally sway when I hear them, try to focus on the music and feeling and just enjoy the experience. Like this song says “Over thinking and over analyzing separates the body from the mind.”
The time signature is based directly off of the Fibonacci sequence, which creates a 🌀!
My favorite band ever!! I love the Grudge, 46 & 2, honestly they really don't have a bad song. Love you're reactions. You got my sub.
This is the greatest song ever recorded.
Hello fellow Aussie 👍.. loved your reaction. I subscribed specifically to witness you be awakened to your Tool senses. You will not be disappointed by any of it. Enjoy!! ya legend 🤙
Adam, the guitarist, once said he writes his solos to complement the vocals, not compete with them. I can hear that in all of his work.
The last two minutes of that song is one of my favorite vocals part by Maynard.
The TOOL rabbit hole goes deep!🤘
Loved the reaction mate. This is my favourite song of all time by any artist. Next up for you by Tool - The Grudge
Swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human... Spiral out, keep going.
Alright homie. I’ve been saving this one. Thanks for sharing. Let’s go!
5:18 Yea it’s virtually impossible to “head bop” Tool on the first couple listens (typically). Just try to sit back and take it in would be my advice. Peace!
10:30 I’m no musician but told Danny chooses to play certain parts on the *and* as in the “1 AND the two”
14:35 Maynard James Keenan is a vocalist. One of the best ever. His rhythm and taste are trancendant
16:17 moar Tool
Every time I see a new tool review I sit down and just wait for the new member to the fam!
~ S P I R A L O U T ~ K E E P G O I N G ~
Thanks my friend appreciate the comment and the info!! Will be sure to check out Parabol/Parabola appreciate the recommendation!
THE GRUDGE!!! Powerhouse song!❤
The best way I've heard Tool described was "Quiet madness" and I think that holds up.
haha yeah the headbanging challenges when listening to Tool.
Which makes the final section (outro) sound so solid and cohesive at 4/4 time.
2 part piece of masterpiece art🔨🔨🔥🔥Toolarmy🤘🏻
This is a deep one for sure. Glad you're on board, man! To be fair, you were warned about the timing. LOL What's insane is a lot of the time Danny (the drummer) is playing one off-time signature, while the strings are playing a different off-time signature, but they eventually line up. Maynard (the singer) is strictly vocals.
Possibly the best song ever written, and if not, I'm sure it's another TOOL song 🤷♂️
Tool is the definition of Controlled Chaos! 😂
Aussie Tool reaction!! Loved it dude! Liked and subscribed! Keep goin down that rabbit hole, it only gets better 🤘
loving your work man. im sure the tool army has filled you in on the details about this song and the Fibonacci sequence used. good one bro
Love to see your reaction to these:
46 & 2
Ænema
Schism
Parabol + Parabola
Right in Two
Jambi
Vicarious
Pneuma
Descending
Culling Voices
Invincible
46+2, H, 7empest, Vicarious, to start 🔥
You have no idea yet what kind of a journey you are about to enter. But you have nothing to worry about, the tool army will be with you all the way. I have just subscribed- spiral out! 🌀🌀🌀
thanks for the sub man looking forward to this awesome Tool journey!
Check out the grudge, it was the opening track to this album and its a mindblowing explosive start to one of the best albums ever made.
Welcome to the #ToolAmy, my friend... Enjoy IT!!
😉🎶
Can't wait for more!
thanks my friend really appreciate the comment and the recommendations!
and thank you for tuning in to the channel, much more Tool to come!
I just subbed for the Tool journey 😊
thank you much more Tool to come!
The instruments are playing at different time signatures all together creating the spiral effect..
sevsimo reacts Tool did for music in the 90s what Pink Floyd did for music in the late 60s and 70s.
It's alright, we know where you've been!!!
you lucky, now you found tool i wish i could erase them from my mind so i can hear them again for first time
Man I do really relate to you!! You're awesome!!
