How to install a Subwoofer on a 2022/2023 Subaru WRX

  • In this video we run through the steps needed to remove the head unit on the 2022 WRX along with installing a Line Output Converter for a subwoofer.
    Note: The blue wire on the line output Converter doesn't need to be used since you will be using the red one on the harness. Just cut off the end of the blue wire so that the wire isn't exposed.
    Hope this helps anyone that watches

    Great video buddy ! I have a question that may be you can help with. I recently got the whole system upgraded in my 2022 base WRX. I have active 2 way up front from a 4 channel DSP/amp and some rear fills from factory radio. It was done by a local shop. The equipment is really good (audiofrog, helix) but the sound is really really flat and unimpressive to the point I feel I wasted my money. There’s also a static noise floor coming from the front speakers whenever listening to music. If I turn the volume to 0, the static goes away after exactly a minute. It’s almost as if some noise is being sent to the DSP/amp when there’s load and as soon as the load shuts down the static goes away after exactly s minute. My installer says, he picked the signal from the telematics module into the DSP. The noise issue combined with the really flat/soulless sound makes me believe somethings up with the way he intercepted the signal into the DSP. Appreciate any thoughts. Thank you !

    • @variantaero
      @variantaero  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the issue may be that he used a signal from the telematics module when instead he should have used one of the harnesses on autoharnesshouse.com.. there's one that bypasses the telematics system so that you don't possibly damage it. The website should tell you which one you'll need and the steps needed to install it correctly.

    Had one quick question. So it looks like you’re using the signal from the rear speakers and it’s being passed on to your sub. There’s a lot on the Internet about car companies rolling off or reducing the base in the factory system so it doesn’t harm the factory speakers which are usually not great quality. Did you notice any decrease in the base intensity or did you have to crank up the bass on the equalizer even with the sub? Thanks!

    • @variantaero
      @variantaero  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually had to set the bass on the equalizer lower than the rest of the EQ because it ended up being slightly too much. As for the intensity of the speakers before and after, it seems much louder on my current set up versus without the sub. I typically listen to music around 15-18 on the volume knobs.

      @@itskwis4767 I tapped into the rear. I tried doing 4 ch. fnt + rear tap for the 4 ch. amp, but the OEM system is ridiculously integrated. Tapping the rear, but leaving the rear OEM connections still in place. The fronts need about 3 Ohm for Starlink to not malfunction, and it uses the rear Ohm for audio controls. If you completely disconnect the rear's, then the DSP functions will not work and there will not be any beep sound when pushing the buttons. If doing just a sub, then no big deal--just tap the rear and leave all OEM connections as they are. If doing a 4 ch., ... I connected 2 tweeters (4 Ohm each) to the rear door OEM speaker wires, then ran new wires for the 4 ch. amp to each door so as not to mess with OEM stuff.

If you are upgrading the fronts and rears to 4 ch amp, then you will need the StarLink jumper. If your amp has offset turn-on, then you don't even need the power plug because the high input will turn on the amp when it see signal. If you are using a powered LOC, then you can run the turn on from that --> amp.

      @@RobHTech hello ! Thank you !

      @@addykumar672 Hi Addy. This could be several diff. things. 1rst: is the DSP/amp only the fronts, and you mean that the rear speakers are still ran off the OEM head unit? And front is active only, no passive crossover? The front signal should be captured after the StarLink module. It's considered a hi-level input. And to clarify, is the amp/DSP one unit and where is it located in the car?

Its something to do with the brain of the system thats re calibrating it or something.

      Did the amp screw with the starlink or the telematic system? The harness website cautions to tap into the front speakers after the telematic? You just ran the sun off the rear and didn’t mess with the front speakers? I’m thinking of adding a audio control lc7… I wonder if it will fuck with the suburu starlink stuff?

    • @RobHTech
      @RobHTech ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bryonmiller2142 He did not have any problem because the StarLink system only uses the front speakers, and he only wired up to the rear signal for the sub amp. If you want a 4ch amp running the fronts, then you need a LOC with selectable input impedance switch (20Ohm), or an AudiControl dummy load. You also need the StarLink jumper, or you can just tap the front signal output between the StarLink module and the front speakers. StarLink needs to see about 1.3-3 Ohm load on the front speakers, otherwise it will go into fault mode. The dummy resistor/selectable input impedance provides the load to prevent StarLink from turning off.
