How to install a Subwoofer on a 2022/2023 Subaru WRX
มุมมอง 25Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video we run through the steps needed to remove the head unit on the 2022 WRX along with installing a Line Output Converter for a subwoofer. Note: The blue wire on the line output Converter doesn't need to be used since you will be using the red one on the harness. Just cut off the end of the blue wire so that the wire isn't exposed. Hey thank you for this video and great job on the install. I have a question, does your WRX have the factory Harmon Kardon premium audio? I was just wondering where you are getting your audio signal from. I am assuming you are getting the signal from your cars factory amplifier in the head unit? Just curious. Thanks again.
@shojay9270 no, I do not have the HK system. All powering and wiring etc is on the video
Thank You, Thank you, Thank You!
Why not just tap into the rear speakers and run off that no need to remove head until lol
@coleschettle6494 if you want to run wires to your rear doors, go for it. Our cars don't come with normal rear speakers above the trunk
For any one with a sunroof, the plastic grommet shown is the sunroof drain.
Hey did you notice your headlights go dim ever since you’re connected to the main battery
@benwert7127 no that's no issue for me
The red power wire “amp turn on” is where you connected your remote wire? Did you connect the blue wire from the kicker box as well or just straight from the red wire on harness?
Well there goes the warranty lol also none of the wires will fit in the wrong spots
@tubbsharper754 this doesn't interfere with your warranty as you aren't doing any modifications that affect it. No cutting wires etc.
Is the head unit harness setup the same in a Base model?
Just picked up an AFD V1 wing w/ the paint issue they have from the supplier… gonna tackle this project over the weekend! My only question is .. how many cans of base paint did you buy? Figured 1 is enough but if I need 2 i def want to have enough for the project before I start! Great video & super informative! Sweet VB btw 💪🏻
B-E-A-UTTTIIFULLLLL 👌 by chance are you in SC? hehehe need someone to do this to my CW VB
@@waybach no, I'm in OR
Have you guys made Wing Stabilizers for the Type R wing on the VB WRX? Thx.
@@333demigod no, we have not. Still need someone with one to make them with
What wing is this?
Everyone, please fuse the power wire to your amp!! Easy addition that could save you and your equipment! Not sure if you added one or not
Yes, always add a fuse! Mines shown on another video
There is another grommet underneath the fender liner that comes out a little higher so you don't have to cut a hole in the insulation. I did remove the grommet to drill it out and poke my wires through. I noticed you didn't show the reinstall of the fender liner which I found to be a real hassle.
Mines the cvt so I don't have that rubber grommet. That being said, the reinstall process is pretty simple so I didn't include it since I already included the removal of it
@@variantaero So I guess the liner pops right back on for you. I had a hell of a time getting one of the holes to line up.
@@billsanter yea, everything has its place and you have to pay attention to what goes where. If you got that, then it's very easy to put back.
There are places on this where there is gap between the stabilizer and wing. 6:31 How much should there be?
What wing do you have exactly?
@@variantaero import image racing. I will be putting my stabilizer on before the weekend is over.
@@44actual I see. If there are gaps, then it's because our stabilizers weren't designed for your wing. There are only a couple wings they were specifically designed for so you may need to do a little bit of trimming to get it to sit how you want
@@variantaero hopefully it will work out. I made sure to order the correct stabilizers as listed on the website.
How was removal and installation?
I used this video only for the link for the harness. You won’t believe how hard it is to good a harness for a 22+ wrx. Your link saved me 😂
Glad I could help!
You can tell it's a good tutorial when there's tens of thousands of views, but little comments. Tells you that people were able to do the install with little to no problems. People are usually vocal about issues and problems
Part #?
No idea, I just asked the desk at a local dealership
What's that aftermarket shift knob? I've never seen one of those in a WRX. How much did you pay to get it installed or did you do it yourself?
The material the same as the car?
What do you mean? Metal? Plastic?
They fall off yet?
Nope, still on there as strong as ever
@@variantaero bet was debating on them for mine. Appreciate the response
It looks the same as the crosstrek. Have someone try it on a 2024 crostrek already?
If they have, I haven't heard anything. I'm assuming they are the same since all the Subaru cars after 2022 are on he same "global platform"
Great job on this car. Looks amazing!
Appreciate it 🙏
How did you deal with the texture on the fender flares? :-) Thanks for the video, this is inspiring me to have a go at this myself. Those Aeroflow parts are so expensive!
Sanding them is the same as on the rear bumper. Just follow those same steps
do you have a video on how to remove the rear bumper?
No but it's pretty easy to do. I might have to make one, one of these days
@@variantaeroCanyou take off just the black textured part ? Ty
@@JohnnStamos no, it's all one piece
@@variantaerothank you. Beautiful build man!
Where did you get the new bumper from? Just a dealership in your area ?
Yes, a local dealership
Show us the end result!
How goes it? Has it flaked? Have you done the fender flares?
Did the entire car and no issues. No flaking, nothing. As long as you do the proper prep, you'll be golden.
automatic is a sin
Glad it bothers you so much
only sin here are the subs. that’s for high schoolers lol
Couldn't you tap the signal from the stock subwoofer to the line output converter. Not sure if all wrxs come with a sub but mine does.
No stock subwoofer in mine
Is it possible to tap into the stock wiring? Like do the wires come out more so that you can tap into them?
Did you ever find out?
@@retloc yeah lol I tapped into the stock wiring harness and it worked
@@jakej.9192 Just used an loc for the rear speakers? I’m looking to do it on my 24 i’ll be getting thursday
@@retloc exactly, you’ll have to remove some of the black tape to access the wires and then your golden.
@@jakej.9192 perfect, i did it with my friends mazda3speed a week ago, just don’t know if it’s different since he had an amp, so just to check again, i take head unit off, peel some tape back, tap into rear speaker wires with the loc guide or whatever, and then connect those rcas to my amp and such
Do you need the harness? Or can you just splice into the existing speaker wires? I ordered a powered subwoofer (no separate amp) and am trying to figure out the best way to install it
the best way would be to get a harness. If you want, you can just tap into your cars harness but you risk damaging something.
Why not run it through the firewall grommet?
There isn't one on the cvt wrx
Do you have a link to the wing you purchased?
I just purchased mine off ebay. From a seller called autumnwish_autoart
That MTX Sub looks like it went to the moon and back!
Had it since 2010 lol
Do you have a video or photots of where you connected all of your wires into the harness for tapping?
Just of whatever is on this video.
Where did you get the wire that goes to the mirror to add the heating element? I dont have heated mirrors on base 22 and i live in vermont were its cold and snowing a few months a year.
This video is actually on a 2015 WRX. I don't know if they are similar for the 2022's. If you have the base, the most likely you'll need aftermarket mirrors that come with the heating element and will need to wire them up yourself.
My friend has a 2021 Camry that does not have factory heated mirrors and I want to modify it. Is it possible to pull two wires from the rear window and connect them to the new mirrors?
So glad someone finally made a video about this. I’ve had the materials in my garage for months now I’m trying to block off some time to take care of the rear and front bumper. I did paint match my own fenders, but for some weird reason the paint companies sent me a mid coat, which I didn’t notice until I was completely done kind of made the ceramic white a little yellow and sparkly. I ended up ordering a set from Aeroflowdynamics.
That's actually kind of funny. The same thing happened when I painted the rear bumper for the first time, although they sent me an even more bright white color that of course, I didn't notice until it was done and on the car.
Where did you connect the blue wire?
100% epic. Glad I watched this video.
Helped me big time thanks!
best thing about this is that when you get tired of it you can just rip it off, keen to get one for myself you make it look so easy putting em on haha
So from what I can see did you tap into your rear speaker wires? Just asking cause im not using the harness and teyin to figure which speaker wire is throwing out the bass?
Yes, using the rear speaker wires.
clean af! nice job
Great video. Do you have the navigation modal or none navigation. I have the premium model with 11 inc screen but not the Harman speakers. I don’t think I have navigation. I feel so dum not knowing if I have navigation so I don’t know witch harness to buy.
You have the non navigation model. That's what I have too
Yes non navigation
Stupid question the top visor part above the radio does that come off on its own?
When I did this on my 2014, I did it in the reverse order, fed the short end of my power cable into the grommet from inside the car, then I used a coat hanger to grab the cable and pull it into the engine bay. This method is def cleaner, and might be necessary to get through the grommet cleanly. On my old, I just shoved a screw driver through it and jammed the cable through lol. Great video though, this is absolutely helpful.
did you go back and wetsand again because of the orange peel?
no, it wasn't too bad in the end so I just left it.
nice blanket lol. with all those stickers on the headunit. does it actually say who its made by? i would say harmon kardon but they look nothing like the forester decks.
