    I think a lot of people get confused about ram. Having 8gb ram or 12 GB will have absolutely no performance differences unless the app you are working with requires more than 8gb and in 2022 that's none! Or anything even close. Ram doesn't improve how fast a device will compare unless it's newer version. And then it's milliseconds. It makes a difference with background apps. And let's be fair does anyone really need 20 apps running in.the backgrounds? If so I would suggest they turn off their phone and get on the laptop. So people wondering I can categorically tell you 8 and 12 GB of ram if exactly the same speeds makes etc etc will perform exactly the same as far as speed is concerned. ( Well unless you 20 odd apps open ans the 12 GB will be faster not because it's actually better but because there's more) do you need 20.apps open? No

      Yeah I agree to a point. If you are looking to have your phone for a long time, get 12 gb. But if you are gonna have it for two years or less, get one that's 8gb. But in this video it seems it all comes down to ram management.

    PCs: We work fine on 4GBs of RAM. Give us 8 and we'll run latest AAA games.
    Smartphone brands: *UpGRaDE tO 12GB fOR mORe spEeD*
    EDIT: TL;DR: The 4/8GB RAM on PC is an exaggeration.
    Many people have correctly pointed out that 8GB RAM is now minimum for modern PCs and games would probably require 16GB or even 32GBs. The point of this comparison was to mock the trend of more RAM means more speed. Mobile phones manufacturers had surpassed PCs in terms of RAM back in late 2018s. But if you don't game, I've seen many people being content with 4GBs on RAM for basic tasks like 1 or 2 chrome windows and editing documents. This is especially true for Linux users.
    All versions of Windows before 10 also run fine on 4 gigs. But now as 8GB has become the norm with 16 being the sweet spot, Microsoft has seen fit to let Windows consume more RAM for snappier switching between tasks. Besides, on PC, you can very easily use up 32 or 64GBs of RAM. On phone, I can't imagine a scenario where more than 8GBs would be required.

    Just to stir some water, if you are the casual smartphone user who doesn't have 10+ apps open simultaneously at once, 6gb for ram is plenty. Even mid-range phones like the A71 can provide this experience plenty.
    8GB and 12GB is like mid-grade laptop levels that you'll probably never max out anyways unless you're into hardcore gaming.
    Bottom line is, if you judge smartphones solely by ram size, and are willing to pay an arm and a leg for them, they'll most likely never disappoint!

    Once you've filled up a 3rd of the memory, which won't take long, it's about as fast as a 16gb 1gb ram phone. I've got an A50 with 4 gb of ram and it's perfect. Smartphone upgrades are the biggest rip off in electronic history. Every few years I buy a good 2nd hand phone cash. Contracts cost the earth, and you end up paying huge amounts for phones that aren't worth a 3rd of what you've paid.
    I hate being ripped off and am far happier having an older phone that's paid for. Also, I only change my phone when I absolutely have to. Being a non gamer I've only used up about 1/4 of my 128gb's.
    Tv's come down in price yet smartphones and cars go up non stop, and the gullible public go running after every single "must have" that's advertised. The advertisers sell the lie that you simply "MUST HAVE" the latest of everything, that's why most people are so miserable - because they literally BUY into the lie.
    "Not I" said the judge.

      I was using Samsung s7 edge until last month, it has 4GB ram and the most painful for me was the speed in app, probably the low CPU speed with low ram speed. If I compare to current cheap 4GB phone, it's much faster then top galaxy phone from 2016 with the best spec in 2016. So what happened is that it has firstly problem with speed, than the capacity. I would also prefer 12G just for safe way, but no 12GB Xiaomi mi 10 Pro was on global market. I expect with my 8GB it will again start being slow than having insufficient amount. And when you get to phase that the real app usage is slow, you don't bother with app being killed on background and reopening 3 more seconds, because the slow usage is much worse.

      At some point it will stop going up, like it happened to computers years ago. You can't just expect to daily use 16 GB of RAM in a phone. Prices will go down though, so buying an overpowered phone (and not using its full power) will not make it a better choice against future phones (cheaper and new). Battery should need to be replaced too after 4 years to compete against new phones in the market, which also have warranty...

      I guess, all Androids has built-in app killer that kills apps when not in used for a couple of minutes or seconds?🤔 And I also guess, it was from battery energy saving or data saving, which either are annoying?🤔 iPhone used to freeze apps but not totally killing them?🤔 On this feature, the best RAM Management and overall OPTIMIZATION goes to iPhones/iPads?🤔

    • @afrimhoxha2628
      @afrimhoxha2628 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@i_hate_rock_and_metal Apps in Android, don't just consume ram, they also consume other resources such as cpu, network and hence battery...Meanwhile Apple just freezes them ( with the exception of some media apps). Also most androids apps are written in java which by its nature requires more ram usage than compiled languages such as ones used for iOS. So in the end it's not about optimization, just different approaches.

    In all honesty this is nothing to do with Ram management but what the OEM (OnePlus) has set in their modified version of Android, you don't want to many applications left open because thats increased system load, higher impact on CPU resources = more heat and in turn and far more importantly battery life. 50 apps open and you will be watching your battery deplete in real time. That's why despite iPhones having tiny batteries and pathetic amount of ram can get away with it as it suspends tasks and compresses the application. A operation that Android needs really rather than running all the time.

      @@d.shadocx9277 If I'm not mistaken Apple only uses 4gb-6gb of ram and they can pretty much play any game.
      Usually the bottleneck is the cpu, not the ram. You can have 12gb of ram but with a bad processor that means nothing. Or a good processor with 3gb of ram and be able to play any game decently.
      Evidently, you can pay more for more ram and a better experience. But that is not the question. For someone who just plays casually or isn't interested in extreme quality, just have to pay what they need. No reason for more, nor to argue that he needs more even though he doesn't.
      If the market requires a better phone for better games or an specific game, he could buy other phone until that. Anyways, people spend money for a phone every year or two-three years if they have to.

    I am looking to upgrade my One Plus 5T and I was wondering which of the following phones you would recommend:- The One Plus 8 Pro (because I am used to the One Plus UI and I believe the cameras are good on it) the Huawei P30 Pro (because you gave it a favourable long term report and it has still got Google Play Store and I have an Honour Watch) the iPhone 11 ( because I have a MacBook Pro and I have had an iPhone in the past and Left the Apple Ecosystem because they messed up their software a couple of years back but I think it is better now). Or can you suggest another one beside these? I don't want to spend over £1000 for a phone as I feel that is way too expensive for a phone. I would appreciate your feedback as I do feel your reviews and recommendations are honest....thanks

    • @TechNick
      @TechNick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bud, did you watch my OnePlus 8 Pro unboxing and review? If not, definitely check it out. Since you are on a 5T I think you would probably be the happiest person in the world owning the new 8 Pro. What I tell you now is my true honest opinion, stats aside. Huaweis are great and the P30 Pro is a great option but it's already been replaced so you are kinda only upgrading one generation of phones instead of 2. I think the cameras on the P30 are brilliant and when compared to a OnePlus 7 the P30 dominates but the main sensor on the 8 Pro is so darn brilliant I would put it on par with the quality of the P30 Pro. Also, if you are coming from a OnePlus, going to a Huawei is going to be hard, it's probably the phone furthest from stock Android and OnePlus, as I'm sure you know has the best Android software around because it's so simple and stock. If you used to love apple, the iPhone 11 seems like a decent option provided you want to keep your phone for long, apple supports like 4 years of updates but I would recommend getting the Pro Max since it has a screen size on par with leading Android's and a much better battery. The regular 11 doesn't have an OLED display like the pro models. But even then... Let me tell you, I have an iPhone 11 pro Max. I used it for a while, and then went back to my Samsung. I then decided to give it another try a few months ago and used it for about a week and couldn't handle it anymore, it's like I'm not in control of my own phone. You know when you play a game and there is a setting missing that you would really like to change but can't? Well that's how I see iPhones. They are brilliant devices and have excellent hardware, the software is fantastic but the limitations put me off way too much. I am a sucker for the best Samsung around, but since I got the OnePlus 8 Pro, I honestly couldn't recommend a better phone to anyone. It's incredible. P.S. make sure you pickup the sandstone case with it, it's amazing 😉

    • @davidjohn0505
      @davidjohn0505 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TechNick wow.....amazing and extremely quick and detailed answer....thank you so much. I have only recently started watch your in-depth reviews and subscribed to channel. At 65 I am a bit old in the tooth but I still like gadgets and especially mobiles. I don’t change my phones that often but over the last 10 yrs I have had about 4 iPhones and was quite happy with their quality and their reliability but then they had trouble with one of their upgrades and just felt they just couldn’t care less about the consumer. Plus on iPhone 7 (I think it was the battery died very quickly and then we found out that they where doing something with the batteries to make you buy newer models.....that’s when I decided to move to Android to One Plus 5T) . It wasn’t easy moving from Apple to Android but the quality and reliability of the one Plus was just superb and reasonably priced was the icing on the cake). Recently, I have felt the 5T is getting on and sometimes can be a bit buggy, especially with installing new apps but I just feel I need a change. I totally agree, the oxygen os on the one plus is so so easy to use and so stock Android like. I was so looking forward to the One Plus 8 pro but then when it came out and the price hike and the not so great reviews I kinda went off it. But as you say if I went for the Huawei P30 pro I would be year back in the technology compared to the one Plus 8 Pro and if you say the camera would be better on the one plus 8 Pro....then I think I would be better with that. Plus living in the UK I don’t want to go with restrictions regarding Google devices with the P40 Pro ( yes I know there are ways round that.....I just don’t want the hassle). As for the iPhone.....I just don’t want to give the over £1000 to them for that ugly notch and really ugly camera set up. One Plus just has style compared to the larger iPhones. So it looks like I am going to get the One Plus 8 Pro. So thanks a million for helping me make up my mind....it’s just so hard trying to choose when you live in Northern Ireland where there is little or no chance to have a hands on experience to try out these phones....so then you have to rely on guys like you giving unbiased reviews.....again thanks a million...keep up the good work
      PS I will take up your advice and get the sandstone case as you recommended....what do you think of their new bullet headphones?

      I'm not sure if it's similar to PC, but on a computer, ram allocation doesn't mean you actually use it. For exemple, you could use 10gb out of your 16gb but only use 5gb in reality. That's also why when you got 16gb vs 32gb on a PC when you look at how much you "use" the amount of ram "used" in the 32gb one will be bigger than the 16gb.

    Well, for some is may seem wrong, but it's TRUE, at some point, ram numbers dont matter unless there is a good speed+optimisation, then also the 8pro has more complex software which means more memory took away, also a phone cant give away all ram or the phone would be LITERALLY unusable, so my theory says op8pro kept more ram unusable just because its unnecessary and would make the phone unusable, cause at some point ram numbers are either for heavy tasks like montaging or super heavy files+lots and lots of them that you should keep open, but sometimes or even most it kills apps just cause; well not much use for.
    Please next time try force holding apps in the ram that would be interesting, thanks!
