That's why nfs is in that state. He is the one that pushed for more grinding and customisation. Customisation is like a dessert. It's of no use without a core game! ( main meal).
black panthaa is not the reason why the game is bad🤣 the reasons are the budget for the game, the pressure from EA, the constant team changes, the difficulty of keeping everyone happy and developing the game in a now dated engine... I've been following black panthaa for a decade, and he simply can influence some thoughts during development BUT IF THE GAME IS BROKEN TO THE CORE HOW SHOULD IT BE HIS FAULT?
@@drift_works if he is not influencing by feedback to any extent ( 0% ) we won't be having any grind in the recent games. If recent games are like a rip off of forza horizon then grind should be non existent. They clearly focused on customisation without having a game underneath ( nfs unbound ). No way that happened without someone influencing the course of the game development. The singleplayer in unbound still has zero content apart from the 4 week campaign. Meanwhile the dead multiplayer gets new modes. How can you blame EA for that ? If that's payback like progression, yeah that's classic EA meddling with the game. The three things emphasised by theo are the problems nfs has now. Grinding progression , customisation and online multiplayer.
I believe it's because of the car culture that is being promoted by media. Slammed stanced JDMs with sky rocketing prices, when those "shitboxes" were never meant to be in higher echelons, amongst luxury sport cars.
@@alphaenterprise2232 here in Germany the car culture is taking everything from shitboxes to super cars, putting nice wheels on it, lowered high quality suspension (KW and others) without stance and maybe a carbon lip. Or building a Nordschleife track tool. We never had Underground tuning with sound systems, body kits and shit 😅
@@leospeedleo I remember Germany having a huge Euro Tuning scene in the 90s, kinda similar to Max Power scene in the UK or a mix of both Hot import and Max Power cause there we're some insane builds 1996-2002
I love how the Shift series is not even fit in any of the NFS era you've mention. They both feels more like an early beta access of Project CARS rather than an actual NFS
that's the best description of the shift games i've read, especially considering the very first public alphas for project cars 1 were built upon shift 2 directly
@@sofwanlutfy4050 finally someone who knows classic nfs. Nfs 3 hotpursuit , high stakes , hot pursuit 2 those were the titles that earned the nfs titles. Sadly the kids these days just played underground and think that's what nfs is. ( there were a dozen nfs games before that ! )
Man, to have a modern Hot Pursuit style game would be amazing. I've been playing Hot Pursuit Remastered for over 2500+ hours since 2021, and play it nearly everyday because of how simple yet utterly fun and thrilling it is. It's truly a shame we likely won't get a game like it again.
Agreed, but honestly can you blame them though, especially with the MW reboot. The game ran smooth, looked great, but calling it MW when it clearly was a BURNOUT game with licensed cars ruined it for me. I loved RIVALS and HP2010 because COPS v ROBBERS.
Not just the NFS fans. Every racing game that doesn't offer enough tuning these days is trashed like hell. Nowadays, if a racing game comes out with little or no tuning, it's either badmouthed or ignored by large sections of the "community". Take the new Test Drive as an example. The game obviously offers very little tuning, if any at all. Especially in terms of visuals. The fact that the franchise has always been like this doesn't interest these people. The game has a lot of obvious problems. But tuning is not one of them.
Rivals is the Zetsubou no Shima in NFS. It was first hated at launch but as the years pass on everyone loved playing it. Same with Zetsubou on Black Ops 3 because of it's setup process that is too tedious, plus it was too buggy.
Something that didn't helped this era is that the mechanics and design philosophies trace their origins to Burnout and not NFS, same with the Ghost era. The Black Box era still had the same driving physics and engine that of the classic era just upgraded each game.
The Handling Physics of HP 2010 OG was complete trash, I loved every HP game up until that point, that physics was 100% burnout Crapterian, ppl who played tons of Burnout were in no way the same as all the old NFS Fans. 2 different fan groups.
the black box era had way different handling than the classic era, it went completely arcade more so than NFS2, yes the Supercar Era also had arcade like handleing but it was better, it gave us the classic era cars and tracks with the open world and scenery to blast around and have fun with cars you would never see in real life much less touch one. NFS 2010 and MW 2010 was like NFS2 are steroids, for that it was alot of fun.
Ultraviolet, your deep dive into Need For Speed's Supercar Era is a revelation! 🏎💨 It's refreshing to see someone shed light on this underrated period of the franchise. Your analysis of why these games were over-hated and what made them special really hits home. Thanks for giving this era the recognition it deserves and showing us a new perspective on these high-octane classics. Keep up the fantastic work! 🚗🔥
Need for speed was ruined by its so called die hard fans. It's bizarre that they didn't like pursuit weapons. ( literally hotpursuit and rivals are the only games that feature it). It's a grounded take on car combat with racing. They are too focused on progress and customisation that later nfs games had to lock spoilers and hoods behind dumb errands like complete 5 billboards. Classic nfs games had no customisation ( just pre existing color options for cars ) and they were okay with it. Unbound has customisation , but there is nothing to do in the game! 2 types of event, annoying cops that serve no role in the game other than to make you run around in circles trying to get to the meet up to start a race, way less tracks or circuits ( you try playing races and it's the same race after a few in game days), no transfer over of offline garage, rampant use of meta cars in mp with severe grinding almost to the point that it might be free to play as it's own game. I wonder why these people want to endlessly grind.
@@itz_iper2317 I second that. Rivals is IMO the best nfs experience I got. The blazing fast speeds coupled with insane over the top weapons like shockwave/ shockram, emp, spike gave me the best adrenaline rush compared to any nfs game. ( nfs heat high heat races come close but it's only a very small amount of that game).
Drag, sprint, drift, circuit, races with cops, link ups, underground league and you say their are only 2 things to do 🤣🤡 I love the creativity on how people get to hate on unbound
@@naimishtiakahmed9221 yeah it's pretty diverse and even transitions quick. Like one moment you are in a desert and the next you are drifting towards a winding snowy mountain when the blizzard kicks in. It's not realistic but it somehow reminds me of that hotpursuit cgi trailer with the reventon coming in for the takedown when 30 seconds to Mars's edge of the earth song plays. Somehow rivals captures the cgi trailer in game for me.
I'ma say this Both The Run and Rivals really deserve a 2nd chance, The Run was the perfect concept for a racing game aimed at action game fans but being too short and Rivals' concept of multiplayer Cops vs Robbers was really jank but was fun as hell when it worked. Someone need to retake those concepts (and a part of me seeing from how its shaping really wishes that Resistor is indeed the spiritual succesor of The Run)
People were mad at Rivals because of the how easily you die, or how some pursuit tech didn't work EXACTLY how they wanted it, Rivals was literally MADE so you gamble every time you decide to cash in or not. Yet people were still mad!
@@Taganoym people were mad bc they just started out playing the game and a rando in a way better cop car just kept initiating pursuits, horrible game design
@@Taganoymidk about you but i dont like playing a racing game where the overpowered player cop just smashes me across the map and i have no way of fighting back.
The run had so much potential man. The car list, the story and the handling model is so good. The problem is that it has low replay value because of no freeroam and barely any online modes
I may be biased towards this era since NFSMW2012 was one of my first racing games, but I'm able to justify my love for it as well. The cars are fast so you're never bored by snailing around in a stock Punto (no offense ofc, MW2005 is still very good), the graphics in all 4 of these games are absolutely fantastic and arguably better than the ones in recent NFS entries, and the map design, which you already mentioned, really perfects the experience for me. I bought NFS Heat on sale for 4 bucks and the map felt way too bland compared to something like Rivals or even MW2012. A real fall from grace in my books, only because the player base wanted something else... Edit: I forgot to mention how good the OST was in the Supercar era, definitely check it out if you're interested
I actually quite like 2012, I want another game with a similar car list. It had an amazing soundtrack. And was just fun to mess around in, plenty of ways to play. But yes it had quite a few faults. Still one of my favorites games.
Played the fuck out of MW2012 and that game got me into Last Dinosaurs with the music. Zoom was fucking magical and I still listening to it till this day!
Honestly I always liked the 2010-2013 era of NFS games, but then again it's mainly because I grew up playing Test Drive Unlimited 1 which had no customization besides changing the color of the car and tuning.
I am a firm believer that nfs rivals has the greatest gameplay in the nfs franchise aside from maybe hp 2010 or most wanted 05. The police chases in rivals were insane, physics were fun, and the map felt alive and was absolutely beautiful. It's sad that it was so overheated. (Note: this was the first racing game I played and the second video game I played on my Xbox so I may be a little biased haha)
Totally biased but it's just your opinion, I pretty much played them all since 1994 and I disagree. While I did spend long time playing Rivals I never touched it since 2014 and I was very happy with NFS 2015 that I still play for hundreds of hours
Bruvvv, same hereeee, Rivals was my first ever racing game and I play it till this day, it's so fun, I really don't know why people value customization over gameplay, kinda stupid tbh
Yeah, rivals is one of best "supercar era" nfs. It like sequel of HP2010. Personally i dont like dark tone of rivals, but it's not bad. It's just different. I dont understand why so many people call that "reskin of HP2010" but they totally fine with "Undound" reskin of "Heat".
You aren't wrong. Rivals is the most chaotic nfs game ever. It's an improved version of hot pursuit but with some cons like no pause , always online , server issues, locked 30 fps. ( even on pc if you make it run at 60 the game breaks).
This is why I laugh at the "true" fans of the franchise who all want an MW remake or something that has to do with tuning meanwhile the game series itself started out as a supercar racing franchise.
The ''true'' fans are not true fans at all. They are opinion bashers especially of everyone who likes different NFS different from NFS UG1-2/MW 2005. Of course not all of them are like that but talking about the true die hard ones, a.k.a. the ones who stuck with the same mindset and formula over and over again and the same who hated NFS Carbon for not being direct copy of NFS MW 2005 or perhaps not NFS UG3 which shows how pathetic are they. Their excuse is always ''I just want good NFS like NFS MW 2005'' like pls... And sadly we may no longer get any unique NFS because of this.
Another Hot Pursuit style game with over-the-top fictional bodykits like MW2005 might as well keeps people happy. If what people mainly complain about supercar-era NFS is the lack of customization, then that will do.
@@Benek918 A large number of them are nostalgia-blinded people I'd say, pretty much the same batch of fanboys who keeps screaming for a MW05 remake yet if it ever becomes reality, they would still say that the original is better.
@@t.k3579 Yup, exactly that. And if it was literally exactly the same game just ported to new platforms they'd complain nothing was changed. Not to mention that cars and songs would inevitably be cut due to licensing and, oh boy, would they be up in arms. Some people just can't be pleased
The problem really is the mashing of EAs two racing properties together They’re like water and oil in design philosophy, they don’t mix, and detract from each other’s core experiences
@@jordanclark4635 Most Wanted 2005 is basically Hot Pursuit and Underground mixed together, and we all know how it went. If the devs are too afraid to experiment with anything new, we might as well gonna be stuck with another NFS Heat reskin every year.
Tuning culture has ruined racing games for me and especially Need For Speed as there is no more uniqueness with the cars. These old NFS games with no tuning upgrades or bodykits are great because it lets you become open minded and appreciate the cars in the game for what they are and perhaps even use cars that the player may not like at first but learn to appreciate its advantages and disadvantages.
In fact NFS UG2 used many ricer mods which are so damn ugly. Not to mention how the worst cars were featured in at least both NFS UG1-2 and UG Rivals. Neon, Lancer ES, Sentra, H2 and the great car ruined by the ricer mods - Civic.
What you’re saying doesn’t make sense. How would being able to customize your car any way you want ruin the uniqueness of it? Wouldn’t only being able to change the colors of your car or nothing at all ruin the uniqueness? Customizing your car with body kits and vinyls are what makes it unique. Not just changing the color of your car. If u just want to change the color of your car in the modern nfs games then u can but why should they remove the visual parts for that?
@@Noah2Great I mean, it kinda makes sense because most people customize cars to "super wide, slammed to the ground with big wings, splitters and diffusers" and all cars become that general thing, which kinda muddies in a way the subtle differences in curves and body design even from supercar to supercar because they all just become widebody slammed machines, instead of retaining a very unique and different body like in HPs, despite the Zonda, Viper ACR10 and the Carrera GT fulfilling the great all around + cornering machines, they are so different in appearance, that makes them unique on their own, if you added customization to it, most people would 100% do what I said before, therefore becoming less unique, if most people are customizing a specific style, what seems like a way to make your stuff unique just becomes less with how much it is being done, Not to say some people do make different stuff, and they really shine in uniqueness for the fact of being so wildly different to what most people do, but in HP, the cars are unique because every car on the car list is so wildly different, except the repeats like the Gallardos, roadsters, etc. But even then, they also are different in driving and have cons and pros, normal Gallardo is fastest on straight line, the Balboni Gallardo is overall fastest, and the Superleggera is the most maneuverable and lightest of all, which aids it when competing to the other Gallardos, even the normal one
As someone who grew up with the tuner era of NFS, I have began to appreciate what the series started out as, supercars racing in scenic locations. I enjoyed playing HPR & Rivals, which were super fun games.
Considering most of the die hard NFS fans were originated from Most Wanted, Underground, Pro Street, and any 2000s tuning culture, it's no surprise that they overlooked what NFS were originated from.
Ngl I much prefer this era to the modern era and it’s not even close. The gameplay was and still is better, even rivals clears all the modern games imo. These games weren’t perfect but they were a lot of fun. I miss this era of need for speed 🙁
I love need for speed heat and I do like Unbound, but hotpursuit is a better game then both, Rivals would be better than Unbound if it weren't an always online shitshow with barely working servers. And most wanted 2012 is actually underrated, sure it takes the most famous need for speeds name and butchers it, but if they had named it anything else, it would be a lot more praised. Meanwhile nfs 2015 and payback are the two worst games in the franchise, the people who hype 2015 up to be the "best modern nfs game" always hate on Rivals despite it literally having the same exact handling model with a shittier sense of speed, even more always online bullshit, and cops more braindead than zombies.
The Supercar era were my favourite NFS games! So much so that I own the Limited Editions for all of them. I never bought any NFS game after Rivals. Stuck with the same formula since 2015 is not my style.
Everything nowadays is style over substance. Pretty graphics, impressive VFX and "realism" are enough to receive shallow praises by the general public. Nothing new or innovative is being made. Sequels, Remakes and Adaptations. Media consumers and studios prefer to swim in the same rusted bucket of warm spit because it's a place they know. No surprises, everything goes as expected. And dump unnecessarily large sums of money into it, to have the best spit possible.
Really good video. I've always been a huge fan of the Hot Pursuit games, and the fact the last one we got in that style was Rivals back in 2013 is a massive shame. People have to remember the series started out not as Underground, and yes... there are fans who don't want another Underground styled game. Also, you are one of the few TH-camrs that I know who calls out the Ghost Era for not being great, which is quite refreshing.
The Ghost era is only regarded as great, because of Heat. But, it speaks volumes considering how mediocre at best, barebones Heat was and, yet, is still seen as the "revival" of the NFS franchise Heck, most say Heat is better than Unbound, which I can not comprehend at all either lol
Ghost games tried to overcome nostalgia and failed miserably. They didn't even do the balancing of the cars right, because it was boring to play online and only have 911 turbo '89 and Huracan (drift), and Heat nor PvP has something that a racing game doesn't have, this takes away 80% of the replay factor.
@@UltraViolet_Moses Shift is fucking insane! You go so fast that the car violently shakes at over 150 mph it's scary... It's my favorite NFS game in the 2000's!
NFS Prostreet was over hated too by its launch but pple start to recognize it I LOVE prostreet so much it’s even my favorite game of the series idc about the cop chases the vibes trough the festival and cars are everything to me ❤ also you got yourself a new sub man Great job 👏
The reason i hated all of these "supercar" era games wasn't because of the weapons or lack of customization like you mentioned (I grew up on HP2 and NFS2SE), it was because the core gameplay was basically Burnout but made bare bones, especially by Criterion. You are rewarded by high speed drifting with nitrous which makes you faster and so on. You were punished by even trying to drift without mastering it in Black Box or EA developed games and even then, it made you slower because that's how it was supposed to work.. It was not fun for me to whiz past a 90° turn doing 200kph, that was what Burnout was for. Making your driving model input lagged brake to drifting was the worst possible decision they could've made and i still consider games after Undercover (which still had decent potential) inferior to anything before it. (crash cams, takedowns, just sprint races, virtually no progression).. also the airport was paid DLC mind you.
Rivals is one of the greatest NFS games ever, the adrenaline, the energy, the vibes is unmatched Too bad people care about changing everything in their cars but not about the actual gameplay
as someone who loves modern nfs and its customization, i recently played rivals when it went on sale. it was VERY fun, literally just an edgier, faster, and overall better version of hot pursuit. if customization is a necessary sacrifice for me to get more games like rivals, then i’ll gladly pay the price.
HP2010 was a phenomenal game and the only game they absolutely nailed brake to drift. I dont like break to drift but in this game, it was well implemented and fun.
For me, the Classic Era is the actual Golden Era and the Supercar Era is a close second. The Blackbox Era had a few truly great games in Hot Pursuit 2, Most Wanted, and The Run, although the first one is based on the Classic Era, while the last one fits into the Supercar Era. The Modern Era has been so bad, that I've lost interest in the series.
Here is my take (ofc you are free to disagree) - NFSHP 2010 was a great game overall. - NFS the run was a 9/10 demo game. Even the quicktime events were a fun filler. The only issue? It lacked any sort of content past the main storyline. - NFSMW 2012 was a mess. It was essentially a worse burnout game. Agreed the upgrades had to be earned but you do not feel a connection to the game since all the cars are handed over to you. - NFS rivals is an underrated game with one of the most brutal police systems and "ride or die" gameplay. Even the map was beautiful AF, the only gripe? Always online and issues with the server. (for context my first NFS games was MW2005 -> carbon -> prostreet)
Finally someone who has the same views as me. I loved nfs mw 2012. But as a burnout game. ( because at that time there wasn't a burnout game in years ).I would have loved more destruction though. Rivals was the best adrenaline rush I had in an nfs game. There is nothing similar to it.
I will say 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯 ( nfs-mw) is just like typical game sequels where they mess up the game because of lack of connection with the fans that love it. Just like any game sequel of 2/3 which is completely done in wrong ways , Burnout Fairhaven/BP 2 is supposively a nice game but just gone in a bit of wrong direction. It's still the kind of game you will love if you play burnout paradise. I never knew I'd find a sequel to my favorite racing game ( The run is my fav nfs but not racing genre as whole). I don't even want to call that game by it's official name, at all costs. It's a burnout paradise 2 : Burnout Fairheaven . Just like any typical game sequels done in a way that makes it like " oh yeah the old version was better " but you'll still kind of like it once because it's still the franchise you love.
I wouldn't mind a burnout style NFS at all. The problem is that its a complete empty shell that can be completed in 2 hours. What made Burnout good was having a ton of things to do, in NFS 2012 you can literally just race or enter chases, there's zero substance to any of it.

My problem is that MW2012 tried to be a Burnout game with the NFS name on it, plus there not enough feeling of progression (just let me unlock faster and faster cars when i'm progressing through the game)

I think it all boils down to a case of mistaken identity. People identify NFS with tuner culture and games like 2015 and Underground. But NFS from it's start wasn't about that. It started as a supercar racing franchise, then tried to return to that after Black Box. And the fans NFS made from the Black Box era weren't happy with that.
That's entirely true. These peoples which identify the Tuner Culture as a root for NFS games are totally misleaded. NFS titles started with Sports Cars and Supercars. Also, the main reason why the Black Box era is born is due to the success of NFS Hot Pursuit 2 PS2 which has a Cop VS Racer theme. That also explains why NFS Hot Pursuit 2010/Remastered are very successful too. Which means without NFS Hot Pursuit 2's success, none of the NFS from 2003 to 2008 as well as NFS titles w/ customization would've been born to begin with. In fact, NFS High Stakes which is the 1st NFS with customization started it all. Then, NFS Porsche Unleashed did the same and NFS Underground 1 improved on it. So, that also means without the Classic Era, NFS games with customization wouldn't exist too.
@@O530CarrisPT_C2 That's totally right. Apart from the Underground duology and Motor City Online, Every NFS titles includes Supercars. Plus, 22 NFS covers have European cars, 8 are Japanese vehicles and 4 are from america. Which means Europe is more prioritary than other countries in the NFS franchise.
Interesting video, very much enjoyed it. Do you think the aesthetic risk they took on Unbound was a key change in the wrong area, and the core game still felt stubbornly familiar?
I think it was a bold move, and I surprisingly enjoy quite a lot of the changes in art style. Where it went wrong for me is that they weren't brave enough, and only limited this crazy new style to characters and animations, so it felt more like a missed opportunity to me!
@@UltraViolet_Moses This is a very similar situation to the newer BMW G8X , when people first got a look at them, the hate was unavoidable, but once they got to drive it/ see it in person, they all loved it to bits.
This is something i've been saying for a long time now that the racing game community is to blame for why the racing games scene is so dead and bland now. The reason everyone is chasing Forza (Even a game like TDU) is because the community wanted it. They want every racing game to have Forza's handling and open world with NFS's customization so of course every new title is basically a Forza clone including NFS itself now. And then they complain that every game is the same, like yeah goofballs you made it happen, when studios look at feedback they see you wanting those features so now take it.
I think it's extremely ironic that TDU is chasing Forza, since the first Horizon game was absolutely made for TDU fans lol. Of course it changed with the years. I'd even say Horizon isn't as good as it was
True. There's literally no racing game right now that makes me wanna go "yeah that looks exciting, let's buy it." The only racing game that has came out in recent years that actually has a soul and feels like it was made for car enthusiasts is granturismo 7. Yes gt7 is not without it's problems like the always online bulls*it but when u ignore that and look at the extremely accurate and beautifully detailed car models, the car list, the car sounds, PSVR, the track list, the physics model and the fact that literally every single car feels different and has characteristics that align with their real life counterpart etc. u get the sense that it was made for car enthusiasts instead of 12 year old forza kids who just want the latest and greatest supercar and a supra. I love the fact that gt7 doesn't follow the trend of only featuring the latest and greatest supercars/hypercars and completely ignoring automotive icons from the early 2000s, 2010s, the 80s and the 90s like the Murcielago LP640, McLaren SLR etc.
Hot Pursuit 2 is still my favourite NFS. I just bought a new mint condition disc after my old one broke this week. Heres to many more years of this game
NFS's latest years have really cemented my opinion of the franchise as the clout chaser of racing games. It doesn't have its own identity anymore. It used to be just a way for you to drive some high-end cars you would not be able to drive otherwise. That's why I always had a soft spot for HP2010, because it went back to the *real* roots of the series (despite how hard some Underground/MW/Carbon fanboys want you to think these games are the actual roots, which they aren't - never were, never will be). And even though I don't like vehicular combat (or powerups in racing games in general, sorry Blur and other Mario Kart type games), I still had a blast playing it in multiplayer with a few friends. Nowadays, I just couldn't care less about any new NFS game.
Tbf it was originally supposed to be a mw sequel I heard but all that got scrapped, I’m sure they just got lazy and didn’t change the title but that name being a cash grab could be true also.
90s and early 2000s NFS "Classic Era" is still the greatest. I loved how NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals brought back that classic era of NFS, the open roads, dynamic weather changes, driving sports cars, supercars, hypercars against the police, was fun! The Underground fanboys ruined it. We need a NFS Rivals 2 or a High Stakes 2, or even a Hot Pursuit 4 type of game!
Underground and Most Wanted fanboys ruined it together. I can't stand it every time when both groups want the next NFS to look like either Underground, or MW, or both of them in one.
Another game like Porsche could be great as well. Something like NFS Ferrari . One thing that i loved from that classic games were that every track or escenery were so dam beautiful
i hate the "NFS Most Wanted 2012 shouls have been a sequel" thing that BlackBox era fanboys say because its like they think Carbon doesnt exist or something
Split the franchise: Need for Speed, Need for Street or something, Make it Super clear, Profit! I personally much prefer the supercar era, these games are simply more excitng and fun.
I grew up during the golden era, and these games definitely have a special place in my heart, but my all time favorite will always be The Run. I'll never say it's objectively the best, it's just the one that speaks to me the most. Also the challenge series in that game were AMAZING.
Although admittedly when playing back Hot Pursuit 2010 I didn't get the same satisfaction as I did when I was a kid, as I did miss the customization I had been spoiled on with Most Wanted and ProStreet. Still, I feel like Unbound is just a different direction for the game, and is in an era of dystopian crazy bodykits. I'd argue that if they can work on not having cringy dialogue and having a more diverse soundtrack (some metal and dubstep wouldn't hurt), it would practically be perfect. Hell, I wouldn't mind leaving open world behind for a game in favor of a more professional racing scene.
@@The.Slick.Walker Don't get me wrong I like junkman and autosculpt. And I think the Kyza/Yasid kits right now are a very underrated era for Need For Speed. But I'd rather a game of fast cars than the loud ass shitboxes that wake me up at 3 AM that the neighborhood kids straight-piped, making all that noise only to go 20 miles per hour.
@@J.PC.Designs Especially people forgetting that Neon, Sentra, Lancer ES, H2 are the biggest shitboxes that we have in NFS UG series. But yet they are ''cool'' However the most overrated car we can agree on is the MK4 Supra especially in NFS UG1-2 was the SZ-R version like NFS 2015 and not the RZ or Turbo which is the better version. I really don't get what is so special about the Supra, except that is really slow as stock and also heavier than the ''controversial'' MK5 Supra.
In my opinion, modern NFS games should go through 3 phases. They should make a supercar oriented one, with a good handling that wouldn't make it look like Outrun, going back to the roots of NFS, that isn't an open world, but has incredible tracks and would put more focus on pulling out the most out of the game and console generation/modern PCs. The next installment could be into tuner scene (Like Underground and and "modern/ghost" era games), with an open world map, it could include some supercars of course too. And the third game that could come out should be something like ProStreet/Shift, with a handling that would be quite realistic, and big focus on making you feel the tension, adrenaline and speed like in the GRID and Shift games, like really get into our senses. That would make each next game feel like it's something more fresh, also previous two installments with different topics would make people that are into one of them probably look forward the next 2-3 years very much, if the current one would be good. However, the core of the approach to these games, could be based around the Blackbox era, as it seems to be the the one that works well for players, it pulls them in, and it might be caused by the system of building your way through the ranks. If it would be properly designed, I'm sure it would have very good effect.
HP2010 is the game that got me into racing games for the first time, I still remember playing it in 2nd grade on my Xbox 360 (in 2016 cuz I was late to the party lol). A year later or so I got Rivals, and then sometimes later I got my Xbox one (which I still have today) with FM7, The Crew, and NFS Payback, and I've been a fan of racing games ever since. Sometimes I feel that since I grew up with a NFS game that lacked customization, it's part of the reason why I'm able to respect cars just how they are, and I'm really not bothered if a racing game doesn't have 'good' customization. It's so weird that NFS these days is desperately trying to "redeem" itself to the people who hated the supercar era games, while in doing so the game quality and overall innovation just keeps going lower and lower. I know I'm almost definitely biased saying this, but it would really be nice to see a new iteration of the hot pursuit/supercar style NFS games, it would be a great refresher and a way to break the chain of copy-paste NFS games. In a better world, perhaps we would have some sort of cycle of NFS styles, where, instead of NFS trying to be everything at once, the different styles would branch out and truly explore and innovate into their own ways, somewhat like how FH and FM used to alternate yearly. As cool of an idea that would be, it's (near) certain to never happen due to the current state of the AAA 100% ensh!tification guarantee. But it's still cool to think about such possibilities.
FINALLY. Someone with common sense. I agree wholeheartedly. The joy of NFS was that it was varied. It's so frustrating seeing so many point to the underground games as what NFS MUST be. These people are blinded by nostalgia. "we want something new" yet when something new was given the mindless hoardes rejected it because it didn't check a couple boxes from a couple games a decade prior. I love the supercar era. Maybe that's due to nostalgia too but I just wish they would innovate the series and not just iterate. EA could easily get a few studios together, give each studio creative freedom and the budget to create something new and special without having to stick to a formula and we could see a new NFS game every year even with each studio having 2-3 years of development similar to CoD but actually not repetitive. But alas corporate greed will end up prevailing even if this strategy would probably make them a ton of profit and an actual new legacy to cherish buuuttt of course it wouldn't squeeze every last penny so it won't be done sadly
Honestly my favorite nfs game was MW 2012. I know I know “how could you?!?” I genuinely loved this era. It was more about making the game fun than giving you the ability to drive a ricer at 300 mph.
Tbh this was the era that i enjoyed NFS the most, from the cinematic hot pursuit, to the fun MW12 and the chaos of Rivals. This was also when i got my first xbox and found my friends that have been with me for 10 years now.
I think the next NfS should rather be a Shift 3 than an Underground 3. Shift 3 would have more circuits - such as Portimão/Estoril, COTA, Interlagos, maybe even Le Mans 24 Heures or Mount Panorama.
IMO ProStreet was the 2nd best NFS after Porsche 2000. And it had the best soundtrack and feeling of speed & acceleration. Also I admire the fact that it introduced something new & fresh with taking cars to street legal races and focusing on their characteristics & capabilities (like old good NFSes did) instead of diving into a pathetic story and forcing us to do cop chases. In PS the cars were the main thing, and it was awesome.
...they started out with supercars, this video makes no sense. The only feelings hurt here were the kids not old enough to play the originals ...which all had supercars and minimal customization.
We need to go back to this era. Tired of the obsession with customisation, which adds nothing to the gameplay experience. Hot Pursuit 2010 is still my favourite NFS. And yes I've played the Black Box era games
the franchise should try to merge the two, not to appease fans, but to try and potentially do something where you have progression with cars themselves and visual customization that impacts the car like it does in prostreet there's fun to be had in both the gameplay and making your car your own, but the problem is that modern nfs can't balance the two, leaving one either lackluster or nonexistant
Most Wanted 2012 for me felt like something what should be called "Most Wanted". In simple way of meaning. Just like in NFS 3 from 1998 after successful escape of pursuit they say "You're Most Wanted". But MW from 2005 was highly focused on black list's members. It was more like NFS Black List for me.
@@HeroManNick132 lol, look at the views, this video made you can literally see that people dont care about this, you love to deny that nfs mostwanted isn't good but this video proves that.

Although I prefer the underground era (besides Payback and Unbound) of NFS for a number of reasons it's UNDENIABLE that the supercar era is classic need for speed at its core and deserves it's respect. A lot of need for speed "fans" and especially the influencer types like Blackpanthaa who just sort of grew up with the underground black box games act like they understand the franchise and what it was always meant to be. I love the simple idea of jumping in a car if your choice that's fast and running from the cops while racing through scenic locations, Hot Pursuit 2 being my favorite of the games that did it with the 2010 version under it. Although i prefer being able to customize my individual cars, the car types, overall vibe, the cheesy but fun campaigns, and prefer the urban locations of Underground, Most Wanted, And especially Carbon being my favorite of those games. It doesn't mean Need For Speed can't have multiple identities for all types of audiences like the street legal era being Pro Street and the Shift games for example. Need For Speed wouldn't be as iconic if it didn't have these types of games in the first place.
I still think that's an inbetween position for people who grew up with those, but also not spent a significant amount of time with the originals. The supercar era also suffers from a major identity crisis because Criterion was pulled off of the Burnout series. The era largely plays like Burnout with licensed cars, which makes for an extremely odd combination. It's not as good as Burnout, but it's also not fully Need for Speed, there's a foreign DNA in these games that shouldn't be there. HP2010 is a nice nod and MW2012 is Burnout Paradise with schizophrenia. The other 2 are interesting entries. I love the simplistic nature of these games (and HP2010 ranks pretty highly in my list) but they don't capture the raw car culture and mystery the old games have had.
Tuning culture ruined this game. Need for Speed was born as a supercar racing game - the likes of Ferrari F50, Porsche 911, Lamborghini Murcielago, etc. The fact that there's people that associate NfS with the era started with the 7th game is insane. I blame 2 Fast 2 Furious for that. Hate on NfS HP 2K10, The Run, MW 2K12 and Rivals, but they were the games that made NfS return to its roots.
Actually it was 2F2F who influenced NFS UG because it came the same year as NFS UG1. Black Box in NFS UG2 took sounds from there also like Brian's Evo 7 sound, Roman Pierce Eclipse (these sound clearly say 2F2F in the files so they weren't hiding it). And NFS Carbon (although unused) took Dom's Charger sound from the first Movie). Even though it wasn't mentioned the acceleration sound is 1:1 with Dom and Brian's drag scene. Let's not forget that Black Box took the 2F2F jump for the intro as well introducing the NOS which previous NFS didn't have that but every NFS after NFS UG1 has it.
Lamborghini was born as a tractor manufacturing company. People associate Lamborghini as a high end supercar brand that makes iconic supercars. That era of making supercars was the most succesful for lamborghini and is what its most kown for. Just because the nfs supercar era was the first doesnt make it the best. It is abundantly clear that the customization/black box era was the prime of nfs and their most succesful era. Look at sales comparisons, look at any ranking of the games, look at how many car enthousiasts were born just because of this era, How is it insane to associate a franchise with their most popular games just because they're not your favorite? Do you think if lamborghini unveiled their next flagship vehicle and it turned out to be a tractor people wouldnt hate on it? Somewhere in italy there is a grumpy old man sitting on his porch mad everyday that lamborghini is making supercars instead of tractors because it was born as a tractor manufacturing company. That is the same logic you are using here.
@@nothingeverything8715 But Automobili Lamborghini and the Lamborghini tractor company have been split up for decades. Stop thinking that a mopped up Supra is the best thing around...
@@O530CarrisPT_C2 nobody is thinking that a mopped up supra is the best thing around. Thats just 12 yr old tiktok kids. The era of blackbox games as a whole were just much better and the sales prove it. Any nfs tier list will have at least nfsmw and nfsu2 at the top. Go to any car meet (supercars) and ask car enthousiasts their favorite racing game. Most will say underground/ most wanted. These games influenced a whole generation of car enthousiasts. That was PRIME need for speed. Its not just about the type of cars or customization. Its about the experience, the vibe and atmosphere, story, soundtrack, iconic moments, uniqueness, action, creativity, innovation, gameplay, car sounds, cop chases. Blackbox games just did it the best out of all other eras and thats a FACT if you like it or not. Go play gran turismo if you just want to drive stock european supercars down a mountain at 50 mph. People like you are in the loud minority. Blackbox nfs games are one of the few racing games that most non-racing gamers have all played and what most NFS fans consider the best. That will be what most people associate NFS with forever unless something way better comes along.
As a first: I can see why they needed to shift their focus to supercars and hypercars, as the focus of the tuning scene was already diminishing since Most Wanted 2005. They added Supercars and Hypercars in there as well, and in order to give the tuning more depth, they introduced autosculpt in Carbon, which was a good addition. Plus, the supercars era was a direction back to the roots to the oldest games in the series. I wouldn't say this in itself is controversial... it's the games, in particular one single game, that brought them into the downward spiral. Hot Pursuit: It was an okay game. I wouldn't say it's a gem, I wouldn't say it's outstanding, but it certainly had its charm. I'm not too much of a fan of the Burnout drifting for real cars, but I can see past that. It also had lots of Supercars in it, just like Hot Pursuit 2 had. It's a legitimate continuation of Hot Pursuit. The Run: Haven't played it too much, it was one of the first NFS which I skipped, but I'm interested to play it. The story honestly looks interesting. Most Wanted 2012: Hot Pursuit, but worse in every way. It had nothing to do with the old Most Wanted except the Blacklist. Again, I can tolerate the drift model of the cars, but having literally no story, very little normal cars, no real progression system, searching for cars in the city instead of deserving the right to use them/buy them... Yeah, you can risk things, no problem. You're allowed to take risks. But in my opinion, EA/Criterion failed with each risk they took. If they would have called it anything else than Most Wanted, it could get more fans behind, but when you're competing against one of the most loved NFS parts, if you make a legitimate successor, then don't release such a hot mess where only the name reminds of the predecessor. And then the scenes where the police cars stack behind each other and build a giant wheel... No thanks. Dear devs, I don't know what you smoked, but don't smoke it anymore. Rivals: Another "Meh" game. It's not a bad game at all, but it's not good. IMHO, Most Wanted 2012 is one of the reasons why NFS is dying a slow death. That game was so fucked and such a disappointment, NFS would have needed to have absolute bangers afterwards to redeem themselves. However, not a single game was a banger. The last ones were probably Hot Pursuit and Shift. They really try to freshen up things with every game, and still they fail. The series has been on life support for 10 years, and it's not improving. As for my part... I'm not surprised in the slightest.
The only credit I can give to this era of NFS is that it helped me appreciate the way cars look in factory form now. Nowadays I hardly ever dress up my car with aero, decals, or even replace some dreadfully ugly factory wheels in games. I got nothing against tuner cars, I loved them in both past and present forms. I just like how cars look and the way they drive.
Going "sleeper" look kind-of had a slight advantage in multiplayer: opponents underestimating your performance. This is applicable even for the BlackBox era.
"even though it's only because of change that we got that golden Blackbox era in the first place" THANK YOU! I've been saying this for a while, we need innovation back in need for speed! Maybe someone should bring back the weird ideas Blackbox had like Terrorfive. Or make new weird ones, the possibilites are endless.
The original Most Wanted is my least favorite actually, I never liked its handling physics. I did love Porsche Unleashed, Hot Pursuit 2010 and Most Wanted 2012.
Absolutely, Need for Speed was so good in this era, I played Most Wanted on the Vita and I love it to this day, sure I am more of a Forza Horizon fan because I like realism in car handling, but Most Wanted is so much fun. I would even say it was as vital as Forza Motorsport 4 and Horizon 1 in making me a Petrol Head. Such a shame that people complain about anything. (And yes, I did play Hot Pursuit 2 (2002, this was my first NFS game), Most Wanted and both Undergrounds when I was a child.)
I have all four of these on my 360. Undercover was my into to the series, followed by these four in chronological order order, then MW2005 and Carbon. The supercar era is definitely my favorite as I come back to them the most.
Hot pursuit 2010 is my favourite nfs game. That might be because i don't care about customization. Just let me choose my car's colour and I'm good. I understand that a lot of people like to create their personal cars, but it's still one of the least important features of a racing game IMO
Another great video, man, i enjoyed it, you make me feel vindicated to just go with a flow back in a day because when even before HP 2010 was released, the fanbase was about to split into two camps and go backwards, because unfortunately for many people "going back to the roots" was too drastic of a change and this thinking that tuner car customization as a must for NFS game was what made me move away from community, i personally enjoyed HP2010, MW 2012 and Rivals, heck i even spent hours playing Shift spin off subset, because i was so disappointed with the failure of Undercover and HP 2010 felt like a fresh air to the series after years of Blackbox era games. Keep up the good work, man.
@@JoelGarcia-g6s no, what i'm saying is that fanboyism imploded around 2009 because it was a thing before but it was bit more confined between new kids and old roots NFS veterans, it's just the moment something different to what many who joined in during Black Box era were used to was released like HP 2010, now it started to become like "a major issue" all of sudden and then the clash became much louder.
I've played every nfs from hot pursuit onwards. Rivals is one of my favorites. Great map, great soundtrack, great gameplay. I'm always replaying it and calling friends to do so
"[You] played every NFS 0:58 from Hot Pursuit onwards" ? Do you mean NFS III : Hot Pursuit (1998), NFS (6) Hot Pursuit 2 (2002) or NFS (16) Hot Pursuit (2010), which is the THIRD game called Hot Pursuit? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need_for_Speed
People often forget that the very first NFS games were also all about supercars. Underground, Carbon and MW were more in style when we put them in context of the tuner era, and now they think that was the "true NFS"
The game's title says it all, Need for Speed, not Need for Wang Side Skirt Bumper Flamethrower. People says super cars with weapon is unrealistic but how about NFS World's power ups?
@@3xtan327 NFS World was hated for the microtransactions but when it shut down it became so ''nostalgic'' to them. Double standards of it's finest. When every NFS is like 5+ years old, it's liken more.
I am not kidding when I say that Most Wanted 2012 is one of my favorite games in the series. I love Fairhaven, driving physics, criminally underrated soundtrack and police that drives as if meth is the most important ingredient in every officer's morning coffee. Multiplayer is probably the most fun I've ever had in a racing game.
Couldn’t agree more. I remember MW 2012 fondly. That online experience is the best all around in the series since it was introduced. Such a great game and time it was back then.
I always have thought nfs has been divided by the high speed (1-high stakes, Porsche 2000, mw2012, hp2) and the tuner timeline (mw 2005, underground, etc)…I prefer the high speed era but I can’t deny I’ve grown up with both, Porsche made me have a addiction with the brand though 😂😂
I absolutely LOVED that era, and still do! In fact, I'm not a fan of the tuner culture and I did express it once publicly, that made a lot of fans angry. NFS was meant to be a supercar game, with wild tracks and physics to have fun with.
growing up i thought The Run was the most impressive NFS games ever given that it was also developed by BlackBox. Maybe that assessment aged well over time.
It’s not the same blackbox that developed the old games tho, most of them had already moved to studios like quicklime games. It was mostly ghost game devs. Although lm assuming they probably had the same creative director so it turned out well still.
I have no idea why alot of people fight over what NFS should be. I never played the 80's or 90's nfs but currently play TDU2 so I know having exotics without any visuals feels amazing but at the same time, I was fixated on WRC as a kid. A race where you see these ordinary looking cars, some had modified bodykits, plastered with decals and sponsorships. When I had the opportunity to torture my PC that had no GPU (I think it only had like 80 or 200mb of VRAM) to run the first UG and MW 2005, I instantly went and placed all kinds of decals and sponsorships onto it like I was part of some illegal betting group. It was fun, although I always see dark lines covering the car due to how my graphics card is non existent. NFS for me isn't just the tuners nor the exotics nor the police, it's just a game that you enjoy because you like it. In fact, I'm jealous most of the people here can run modern NFS because my laptops certainly can't. I can run UG2 and MW 05 now along with HP 2010 but I wanted to experience sticking some fancy sponsorship decals and cool racing liveries onto any BMW or lexus and call it my "GTE cars". I never had that opportunity and I would trade my damn soul if I could have a laptop that could upgrade itself to have the most modern specs imaginable so that I can just run newer racing titles. I might not be considered a true fan of the NFS series because I don't have a side to choose but, NFS was my childhood, along with some other games like Colin Mcrae Rally, some obscure dakar rally game that I played on my mom's keypad nokia (forgot the name), and possibly more. So yeah, even if the franchise gets stale, I'll still love it because it gave me a good past even if I won't have the power to play it. Tbh, I never watched the vid because I can feel that he'll rant about how old nfs is good and why new nfs is bad or it's sticking to different things that made it harder to progress. I'll still give it a view later but for now, I wanted to calm down but I'll still leave a like because I ain't an asshole and I know you poured hours into this.
@@HeroManNick132 ah, I see. Sorry man. I never researched about the game's year it was released so I just made a rough estimate. I mean no harm about it because I do appreciate old games even if they're older than me.
Even though my first NFS games were NFS-HP2 (2002) and MW 2005, I was a diehard fan of supercar era and the reason why I loved it so much because it was very simplistic compared to other eras. There was not so much to grind in the games which saved time and the ultimate and last thing that matters in racing games is 'Speed' which the supercars served the very purpose. Customisation doesnt change things, they are just for personal taste and only appeal to stand out among the crowd. Other reasons for liking the supercar era were realistic graphics, smooth handling and physics, vast open maps and broad roads, compeititive Ai cops and racers and lastly OST(I even listen to MW '12 and Rivals ost during leisure time).
This is the true original NFS.... now NFS became Fast and Furious :/ I just wish EA gave Underground a different game title rather than using NFS. But oh well.
They are only very surface level like the original NFS. The games are otherwise reskinned Burnout. The original 5 games had a focus on interesting closed circuits, had no nitrous or boost whatsoever and focused more on the cars themselves. Only HP2010 has a small little tidbit of car culture with the marketing blurbs for the cars during selection.
@@Babybarschalarm I did liked underground rivals which does have customization and tuning and to be honest that game and midnight club 3 will be my favorite tuner playground of the 2000s if I can get a ps5 and play unbound then that will my ultimate tuner playground of modern gaming but I still enjoy NFS games of the 90s with supercars but the only thing I dislike about the tuning culture is the toxity against supercars and many think that supercars and hypercars are for rich people but even poor people can like one of those and another thing I hate about it is the trend of performance modded sleeper cars beating hypercars.
In my personal opinion, the Supercar Era of NFS as you call it, is the best one in NFS. Hot Pursuit, The Run, Most Wanted and Rivals are all exceptional games that received far too much unjustified hate for not being the exact same as before, even if every single on of those games is a million times better than games like Undercover and Underground 1. I remember how in the early 2010's, people were crying and moaning about NFS needing to go back to its roots, because apparently the roots of NFS is Underground. The original games were fast cars going fast as their very basic principle, the 4 games of the Supercar Era are fast cars going fast and more. They're the perfect embodiment of what the original NFS games wanted to be. But now, because all of the crying from people, that are basically manchildren, that just can't take their rose tinted glasses off and admit that Underground 2 and Most Wanted 2005 are deeply flawed games despite how good they may be, we get to have the weakest era of NFS, even if I do think the newer games do some things pretty good. We do not need NFS to become Forza Horizon. Forza Horizon is already the best at doing Forza Horizon despite how some would prefer the earlier Horizon titles and some the newer ones. The Crew has tried for 11 years to be Forza Horizon and it has never quite got there, even if I do enjoy Motorfest quite a lot. Test Drive Solar Crown is already being tried to be sold by media as the Forza Horizon killer, but I can already tell you it won't reach that level, even if it may be a good game. NFS needs to change once again. Perhaps the games can be in rotation, one is a Supercar type game, the next one is a Tuner type game and so on and so forth. I don't know, but they need to be their own thing. Trying to chase Forza Horizon and Most Wanted 2005 will not work at all. They should stop listening the loud people that cry every time because the game isn't a carbon copy of UG2 or MW'05, for no matter what they do, they will never be satisfied. Even if a perfect remaster is done, they'll find a way to bitch about it. They should make a good racing game, one that we don't have nowadays.
If MW is truely deeply flawed, it wouldn't be as beloved. There is a reason why people see it as the gold standard of NfS games. And you don't get that status when a game is deeply flawed.
@@ninochaosdrache3189 Yes, you do. GT4 is widely regarded as the best GT game, and it has a lot of problems. One thing doesn't take away the other.
When creativity and vision got killed by it's own fans demands... people seem to forget that we need to have fun in these games, we don't need another forza horizon copy, what we need is A FUN RACING GAME! I really like Hot Pursuit (2010) because it's like an amalgamation of burnout 3 and Hot Pursuit 2 (2002), I don't mind brake to drift cause it's FUN.. If I really want realistic handling I play Gran Turismo or some other Simulators. I also like to customize cars but I don't mind if the game don't have it when it's already fun...
Man, BlackPantha should watch your videos. You understand the core of these game rather than being obsessed by little features of it.
Yea, I think his voice is pretty important in NFS because EA listens to him
That's why nfs is in that state. He is the one that pushed for more grinding and customisation. Customisation is like a dessert. It's of no use without a core game! ( main meal).
Someone should contact him and show this vid
black panthaa is not the reason why the game is bad🤣 the reasons are the budget for the game, the pressure from EA, the constant team changes, the difficulty of keeping everyone happy and developing the game in a now dated engine...

Meanwhile NFS literally did that but the „fans“ were too stupid to realize that 😂

Something that didn't helped this era is that the mechanics and design philosophies trace their origins to Burnout and not NFS, same with the Ghost era. The Black Box era still had the same driving physics and engine that of the classic era just upgraded each game.
Probabaly one of the best answers

Amen!
In my opinion pursuit weapons, racer and cop teams really are what makes nfs more original and fun, other than just "illegal street racing game"
@@itz_iper2317 I second that. Rivals is IMO the best nfs experience I got. Both The Run and Rivals really deserve a 2nd chance, The Run was the perfect concept for a racing game aimed at action game fans but being too short and Rivals' concept of multiplayer Cops vs Robbers was really jank but was fun as hell when it worked.

I actually quite like 2012, I want another game with a similar car list. It had an amazing soundtrack. And was just fun to mess around in, plenty of ways to play. But yes it had quite a few faults.

I don't care as much to play as a cop so I prefer Most Wanted 2012 over Hot Pursuit, and Rivals.
The stuff I loved about 2012 was the car engine sounds when you fire up the Aston Martin V12 Vantage start up sound was dead on
Honestly I always liked the 2010-2013 era of NFS games, but then again it's mainly because I grew up playing Test Drive Unlimited 1 which had no customization besides changing the color of the car and tuning.
@@dr.sivavignesh664 at 60 fps it's x2 speed. It was developed in like 8 months, it's a joke.

The ''true'' fans are not true fans at all. They are opinion bashers especially of everyone who likes different NFS different from NFS UG1-2/MW 2005.
*I smell Hot Pursuit fanboys.*
@@The.Slick.Walker I smell NFS UG1-2/MW 2005 fanboy.
@@Noah2Great I mean, it kinda makes sense because most people customize cars to "super wide, slammed to the ground with big wings, splitters and diffusers" and all cars become that general thing, which kinda muddies in a way the subtle differences in curves and body design even from supercar to supercar because they all just become widebody slammed machines, instead of retaining a very unique and different body like in HPs, despite the Zonda, Viper ACR10 and the Carrera GT fulfilling the great all around + cornering machines, they are so different in appearance, that makes them unique on their own, if you added customization to it, most people would 100% do what I said before, therefore becoming less unique, if most people are customizing a specific style, what seems like a way to make your stuff unique just becomes less with how much it is being done,
Not to say some people do make different stuff, and they really shine in uniqueness for the fact of being so wildly different to what most people do, but in HP, the cars are unique because every car on the car list is so wildly different, except the repeats like the Gallardos, roadsters, etc. But even then, they also are different in driving and have cons and pros, normal Gallardo is fastest on straight line, the Balboni Gallardo is overall fastest, and the Superleggera is the most maneuverable and lightest of all, which aids it when competing to the other Gallardos, even the normal one

But, it speaks volumes considering how mediocre at best, barebones Heat was and, yet, is still seen as the "revival" of the NFS franchise
Heck, most say Heat is better than Unbound, which I can not comprehend at all either lol

And the NOS is inspired from 2F2F and yet every NFS after NFS UG1 has it. I miss the times when NFS didn't have NOS.
Im sorry but Criterion was actually a nice and fun company
not the new criterion tho, it's just a rebranded Ghost
Rivals is one of the greatest NFS games ever, the adrenaline, the energy, the vibes is unmatched
Too bad people care about changing everything in their cars but not about the actual gameplay
innovation and experiment : ❌ repeated mechanic and endless grinding ✅
Because innovation and experimentation usually isn't as fun as the tried and tested formulars.
as someone who loves modern nfs and its customization, i recently played rivals when it went on sale. it was VERY fun, literally just an edgier, faster, and overall better version of hot pursuit. if customization is a necessary sacrifice for me to get more games like rivals, then i’ll gladly pay the price.
Most new NFS games are overhated imo. The run was a masterpiece. MW 2012 was unfortunate with it's name and HP2012 was a blast
Now that i think about it. Driveclub will always and forever be a supercar era game
You’re not wrong, it’s essentially a classic need for speed with a modern coat of paint, even more so than the need for speeds of that era.
Here is my take (ofc you are free to disagree)
- NFSHP 2010 was a great game overall.

Early NFS had always been a supercar game, especially when it involves Porsche cars.

Which means Europe is more prioritary than other countries in the NFS franchise.
They identify it with that because 90% of the ''fans'' started from the Black Box era (mainly after NFS UG1).

Rockstar, bring back Midnight Club
See? I kept telling them that NFS originally is about sport cars and exotic locations and of course exciting police chase. Lamborghini police car :V

Folks, it's called Need For Speed not Need For Fartcan Honda Civic

Yuh
90' NFS was the real golden era
Based.
Most people who want tuner customization are kids under 12 years old

I know I know “how could you?!?”
I genuinely loved this era. It was more about making the game fun than giving you the ability to drive a ricer at 300 mph.
Tbh this was the era that i enjoyed NFS the most, from the cinematic hot pursuit, to the fun MW12 and the chaos of Rivals. This was also when i got my first xbox and found my friends that have been with me for 10 years now.
prostreet/shift was so good and nobody gives it a home 😢
I think the next NfS should rather be a Shift 3 than an Underground 3.
Shift 3 would have more circuits - such as Portimão/Estoril, COTA, Interlagos, maybe even Le Mans 24 Heures or Mount Panorama.
Funny that NFS Shift for PSP was basically Pro Street 2.
@@O530CarrisPT_C2 Project Cars 3 is literally Shift 3
IMO ProStreet was the 2nd best NFS after Porsche 2000. And it had the best soundtrack and feeling of speed & acceleration. Also I admire the fact that it introduced something new & fresh with taking cars to street legal races and focusing on their characteristics & capabilities (like old good NFSes did) instead of diving into a pathetic story and forcing us to do cop chases. In PS the cars were the main thing, and it was awesome.
New UltraViolet video. Today is a good day.
...they started out with supercars, this video makes no sense.
The only feelings hurt here were the kids not old enough to play the originals ...which all had supercars and minimal customization.
If I'm being honest, the "supercar era" was better than anything that came out last 10 years, my opinion.
We need to go back to this era. Tired of the obsession with customisation, which adds nothing to the gameplay experience. Hot Pursuit 2010 is still my favourite NFS. And yes I've played the Black Box era games

@@The.Slick.Walker Well it's true, the bodykits in MW & Carbon didn't affect the cars aerodynamics at all
@@The.Slick.Walker Okay, troll.
the franchise should try to merge the two, not to appease fans, but to try and potentially do something where you have progression with cars themselves and visual customization that impacts the car like it does in prostreet
there's fun to be had in both the gameplay and making your car your own, but the problem is that modern nfs can't balance the two, leaving one either lackluster or nonexistant
I dont understand why cant you have both? Just have the cars and don't customize them and problem solved

The Run is my favorite of the supercar era, and unfortunately the only one that underperformed.
See, this is the energy we need
That NFS2 intro man. That is how you do a damn game intro. I still play that game from time to time still to this day.
I have discovered midnight club 2 came out before 2f 2f and NFS underground did
Lamborghini was born as a tractor manufacturing company.

And here I am still enjoying the classics. I'll take Need For Speed High Stakes any day over all the other ones.
HP2010 is the Metal Gear Rising of NFS Games
The original Most Wanted is my least favorite actually, I never liked its handling physics. I did love Porsche Unleashed, Hot Pursuit 2010 and Most Wanted 2012.
i think that both golden and supercar eras are amazing
i like them both
although blackbox will be always on top for me (including the run mmmm)
Man I remember absolutely loving rivals when I got it years back. It was peak.

The NFS came in 1994. There is no 80s NFS.
@@HeroManNick132 ah, I see. Sorry man. I never researched about the game's year it was released so I just made a rough estimate. I mean no harm about it because I do appreciate old games even if they're older than me.
naming current era "ghost era" is melting my heart
This is the true original NFS.... now NFS became Fast and Furious :/
I just wish EA gave Underground a different game title rather than using NFS. But oh well.
Well, that's what happens when fame takes over.
And now for me I think NFS games with tuning is the brain rot for the racing gaming genre
@@JoelGarcia-g6s Well said 💯
They are only very surface level like the original NFS.
Thank you for voicing out, i agree
FF7 is considered to be one of the best games ever and it has some serious problems as well. You can have severe problems in your game and still be a widely beloved game. One thing doesn't take away the other.
The first five games HAD supercars in them, the "Supercar era" was NFS going back to what it was
When creativity and vision got killed by it's own fans demands... people seem to forget that we need to have fun in these games, we don't need another forza horizon copy, what we need is A FUN RACING GAME!
When the Need for Speed actually gives you the need for speed
