If you are going to have a guy talking off camera off screen, with a picture of him, it is a missed opportunity to not have the top half of his Canadian head 'lip synced' south park style.
The lighting on the gun in Unreal Tournament, at the end there, is because the light is sampled normal to the player, not all of the polygons of the gun. So when you're directly facing the light, the gun is facing away slightly, but the player is dead-on. The back of the gun was lit when the player's back was turned to the light, etc. This was also the Unreal Tournament / Quake III era, where your first-person character was just disembodied hands and a gun, usually rendered in a different process, before games like Crysis gave you a body to go along with the shooting, so they were doing their best with what they had.

I remember when they first announced this and how excited I was for the possibilities. It's very cool to finally see it in action especially since I've been thinking of going back and playing some legendary games that I've never played before.
Very cool tech but it does show that old games are not designed with ray tracing in mind leaving many area's too dark or too bright. Though, I do expect the modding community will resolve this for many games.
And all that pop in and flickering in Morrowind... Also nodding morrowind always brings this "uncanny valley" feeling, where animations and models don't match graphics
if you went through the textures and added emissions to things that should be glowing, and added lights (or modified the geometry to have natural light thats indirectly lit by global illumination) that would fix the problem

@5:28 I don't know much about RTX Remix but according to Jakob's explanations I think the words you are looking for are "light probes". They are essentially light sources (but often invisible to the players) that light up the scenes in the traditional rasterised paradigm. The downside to light probes obviously is that they only contain static lighting data so you can't accurately light up the scene with say muzzle flash using light probes.
Instead of having rose-colored memories of how a game looked, RTX Remix is like putting rose-colored glasses over the game and being able to play it how you think it looked. 😁

Honestly speaking this is seriously cool technology and especially how drag and drop it is with basically any game. It is genuinely impressive but by default it just destroys the original game’s art style in the process. Unless you go in and hand craft and double check every asset, most people aren’t going to do that and use the out of the box tools and call it a day and hinder gameplay as a result.

@@lotto77102 heavily depends how it's done. Like Minecraft RTX looks awesome, yet keeps the video style. Just makes everything look like real blocks lol or at least grounded better. Bad Ambient Occlusion is the only downside to old "realistic aesthetic" games to me from then a lot of the time, RTX helps a lot of that, plus emmisiveness and bounce lighting grounds things even further
It's very much the same deal as with graphics mods for games. If you're just throwing together a bunch of the most downloaded 4k textures and realistic lighting mods, you're more than likely gonna end up with an absolute mess of an artstyle. Once you actually make an effort to sparingly using those improvements in ways that add to the artstyle and not just replace it, it just ends up being wonderful. Same for modding, same for rtx remix.

I've been following the Remix community since Nvidia started pushing Remix way back when. Some cool projects out there to remix old GTAs, Max Payne, SWAT and NFS/NFSU games, etc - really cool stuff! Unfortunately, the tool is still constantly evolving, so I don't feel like digging into it just yet, since it's both incomplete and still buggy/unintuitive in places. But when it does come to a level where I'm happy to spend time on it - my 3D knowledge will get a nice flex :)

Them playing UT and not using the alt fires to test them was incredibly disappointing... Mostly the Ripper's. I would love to have seen the Redeemer's primary and alt fire on RTX. xD

Yeah they're showing off the tool itself and how easy it is to start a project. It's still a project that will need work but it's a lot less hacky and doesn't require much from people wanting to SEE it aside from copying some files

Without RTX Remix and LTT never seemed to care before but as soon as Nvidia backs up the money truck all of a sudden we get an entirely new formst just to showcase something that makes worst models than the community has been making for almost 2 decades now. Its a slap in the face to real modders and people have every right to criticize

I'm just gonna say: This RTX magic has a ton of potential in aiding in more titles being ported to Nintendo Switch and its eventual successor. The Switch 1's days may be numbered, but I've always enjoyed seeing 2000's games ported.

@@GSBarlev They clearly said that is mostly what the tool does without any tweaks, that's not how you're meant to play the game, its how you start remastering the game. At 17:08 they briefly show Half Life 2 RTX which is an example of a game AFTER its been fully remastered using the tool.
This is amazing. There are a couple older Games i always wanted to try and this is a perfect reason to do so. Especially Portal I played Portal 2 because it was cheaper when i got it and then got disappointed because Portal looked worse and at least for me at visual glitches this is a great excuse to give it another try.
Note that if you have an AMD card, you can't use RTX remix to mod games, but you can still play games already modified with RTX remix

Honestly-and maybe this is copium, given that I'm all-AMD in addition to being Club -but I swear I like the "vanilla" looks _better_ for the most part.
@@GSBarlev They clearly said that is mostly what the tool does without any tweaks, that's not how you're meant to play the game, its how you start remastering the game.
At 17:08 they briefly show Half Life 2 RTX which is an example of a game AFTER its been fully remastered using the tool.

This is amazing. There are a couple older Games i always wanted to try and this is a perfect reason to do so. Especially Portal I played Portal 2 because it was cheaper when i got it and then got disappointed because Portal looked worse and at least for me at visual glitches this is a great excuse to give it another try.
Maybe with this the whole trend of companies focusing on remastering instead of making new games starts to fade. Really impressive tool.
