the pointy hats are apparently called capirotes, and they are worn by catholic monks from spain and hyspanic countries and italy. has nothing to do with racism or the KKK. the KKK probably got the idea from the italians.

I once got paid to write a story that was every mishmash stereotype. "Jew, The Scottish Ninja" Jew was a puerto rican immigrant to scotland who was taught ninjutsu by a japanese rabbi. He was joined by his pet slime, Fluffy, and his best bud. An effiminate (but straight) vegan werewolf. They were fighting against a group of nobles who were angry at the commoners, because pies were becoming popular, and the nobles felt that the only true sweets were cakes, reserved only for the rich. So they wore cupcake hoods and laced sheets to represent fondant and burned circles in front of pastry shops to scare the owners. The CCC were a menace. (Cake Cake Cake) 😋 Was one of my favorite projects. I got to lampoon literally everyone and everything.

In the comics which this based on those guys were supposed to be Malta Knights. Malta Knights hunted Muslim pirates and other criminals while wearing those uniforms because those uniforms made it hard to tell how tall or what age or race the person wearing it was. The KKK appropriated the uniforms despite being ant-clericals.
