@@AutumnWoodham you do realize don't you that whenever the left accuse conservatives are using "hate speech" that all they really mean is speech that disagrees with the lefts point of view and isn't actually hateful or bigoted in any way.
and it is usually done when conservatives criticize the left for doing groomer sh1t or other similar undefendable stuff and since they have no good way to defend their point of view they just scream "racist, bigot, homophobe, transphobe, hate speech" or whatever other slur in order to try and shame conservatives that have good reason for what they are saying to shut up.

While the wait for Alucard can be painful, at least you don’t have to worry about waiting at least a year between each episode’s release.
To compensate, I watch them all every year out of spite. And just because.
Dude that was painful. They were on episode 4 when I started watching. That wait was fucking brutal.
Or 5 year wait between the anime and start of ovas..

@Mabswer oh my God I can only imagine and i learned about the ovas in mid late gradeschool when they only had like three out at the time. Anyone that knows TFS was yearly at best should know the pain of multiple years for just one of these basically hour long movies to come out. This was following that anime. You know the one that's remembered for derailing it's plot for the hardest filler BS even though the manga had at least four volumes out by the time the anime came out but they just gave up after valentine bros and went to dipshit world.
Really that anime is only held up by its ost. You know its bad when they could have creatively gone anywhere with Seras's character due to derailing her entire plotline but instead she's left kind of useless and almost damsel like when even non full blooded vamp seras in the manga and OVAs goes hard cracked by comparison and when she gets that juicy full on transformation well...best wall painting service in minutes around.
Also, the pointed hoods thing is traditionally a catholic thing, but certain extra unsavory groups have made the imagery more distasteful than originally.
But, of course, Team Four Star just COULDN'T pass up the opportunity to hang a lampshade on what came to every viewer's mind when they saw those outfits.

Just so you know, those guys at the end weren't KKK. That last guy was, as a joke specifically about their outfits, but that attire was actually holy attire of knights at one point.
The KKK simply stole it & unfortunately that's what most people think of when they see them.
I don't exactly think of them as anything better when they're not associated with the kkk. I see those outfits and I think oh my gosh we're getting another bloody crusade.

Alucard was literally written out at this point of the plot, as his presence would be like an over-excited golden retriever while you're trying to set up a house of cards.

The robes , used by the soldiers at the very end, were initially used as holy attire by knights. The KKK simply approriated them and gave them a bad reputation. Or I guess in case of the Catholic Church, a *worse* reputation.
Pretty similar to how the swastika was appropriated by the Nazis.
I would say it gave it a much worse reputation. The Catholics don't exactly have a spotless history, either. Lead to a fantastic joke, though, so it all worked out.

I love how Heinkel and Yumie are just there, they were actually main characters in the Author's previous work, them showing up is like a "Oh hey it's them" moment for fans of Hirano's work.

@@Pastamist well Hirano is like Fujimoto in the sense that he has a lot of one shots that are all bat shit insane. And that his main goal is to just write the coolest most visually pleasing and badass story possible. And from what I've seen of the manga, he accomplished that perfectly. Hirano's art is like a visual orgasm, that makes men wet and women hard.
the exchange between the Mercs as they watch Seras run off is one of my favorites, not to mention the "No-one expects the Mexican Inquisition"

A warning for next episode. Police girls backstory is very dark, Very brutal, although TFS does make light of it one thing to remember is they cut a lot of it from their version for very obvious reasons.

If you notice, both Alucard and Anderson had to correct their underlings about the amount of a certain thing they each have. (Bayonets for Anderson and Eyes for Alucard) Both end up using the exact same wording of “Bayonets/Eyes for Days” playing up how similar the two actually are to each other.
Also, Pip is basically my favorite french character ever.

The use of Dies Irae when Seras guns the zeppelin is amazing.
Also fitting, since Hellsing Ultimate use big orchestral pieces as well. Most notably, Gradus Vita was the ending theme to episode 1 and 10.

Those are the Papal Knights at the end of the episode. The Catholics had actually been using the capirote and robe for centuries, and they were also a target for the KKK. (believe it or not, the KKK hated a lot of people, not just freed slaves) They stole the look from the Catholics because it closely resembled looking like ghosts; something the freed slave community had a superstitious fear of back then. Catholics still use this look today during Holy Week.
If I remember correctly, during the actual Hellsing Ultimate its stated that whatever guns Seras was using to shoot down the blimp weighed over 300 pounds.

I can’t remember that name of the soldiers are but they aren’t KKK. The KKK were modeled after them.
I mean in the Abridged version some of them are the KKK xD But yes originally none of them are ^^
Fun fact, the characters of the mercs are not actually named Mercer Jaffe, and Willingham, those are the names of the voice actors, Matt Mercer (Mcree from overwatch), Talesin Jaffe (Lots of background stuff, but not known for a single huge role), and Trais Willingham (Mustang from FMA, and the voice of Thor in pretty much every marvel thing outside the MCU), who all happen to be the players of Critical Role, and b extension, Legend of Vox Machina
The reasoning for this, I believe, is that Tal was the voice director for Hellsing Ultimate, and had himself, Matt, Travis, and Liam(maybe Sam too?) do the voices for the mercenaries in the actual OVAs

Just remember one teeny-tiny little detail about Hellsing ultimate vs. Hellsing ultimate abridged Hellsing ultimate is way way darker than The abridged the bridge has dark but the original Canon story is so much darker and a little more disturbing

In my opinion the original is about the same in terms of darkness, it's just inverted.
Where the Abridged is dark, the original tends to be comedic and vice versa.

I read this on the fandom trivia but Pip Bernadotte although being French, has Swedish ancestry. Bernadotte is the name of the Swedish Royal House, which has French ancestry. The Crown Princess of Sweden is Victoria Bernadotte, which pretty much would be Seras Victoria's name if she married Pip
If anything Alexander defying Maxwell is now fully 100% merited since he's attempting to usurp The Pope. He's a meglomaniac with a messiah complex who thinks he should be the voice of God. I mean this actually makes Alexander obligated to oppose Maxwell openly.
The Flying Geese are more hilarious than I remember, I love their banter. I also like how non-chalant that guy was about losing his arm, but getting it back freaked him out XD

I could not stop laughing at how relaxed Bernadotte was about landmines the first time I watched this.
Actually, those white robes and hoods are official uniforms of the Catholic church's paladins. The Klan mimicked their uniforms because they wanted the image of being good Catholics, and what they were doing was sanctioned by God.

Fun fact: All of the mercs, besides Pip, in HUA are named for the voice actors that played them(Matt Mercer, Taliesin Jaffe, Travis Willingham, & Liam O’Brian. Don’t remember if Sam Riegel was part of it or not.). You may recognize them from Vox Machina(Silas Briarwood, Percy, Grog, Vax, & Scanlan). If I remember correctly, Taliesin was a voice director for the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs as well.

The last picture of Jesus that was used near 16:03 was one of the worst restoration mistakes of all time. The painting is not supposed to look like that. An amateur restoration ruined it.

17:18 I deeply enjoyed the whole move by Maxwell and the congregation of "knights". that actually is old Catholic wear if i do recall, shame about how people see it now, like many bits of religious iconography across the world, especially with more of todays western lenses. also, I kind of enjoy how Maxwell goes after the "new pope" in that Maxwells order is radical by any stretch, but could also be very traditionalist. power hungry guy with scruples angry at what gets to advance now. it plays into the whole barbs between Andersons group and Integras because they aren't meant to play nice- they are meant to be fists or blades of their faiths, so more hardline and aware of the divisons.
I can’t wait for you guys to see the next two episodes it’s such a treat

Just a fair warning about the next episode, there's a scene that is in very poor taste, but to paraphrase the creators: "The only feasible way to make this character-defining scene slightly more palatable than the original was to turn it into a Monty Python skit."
So you know, don't be mad at TFS, they did their best within the boundaries they set. By episode 7 they were no longer the kids that though a Catholic priest with a big "råpe" meme sign on him was a joke.

Dont worry. Everyone has and will mistake the entirety of the Iscariot holy order for the KKK. Its precisely why TFS played up the joke with adding in Jedd Forest and his 300 n change good ole bois at the end to play it up after playing it fairly straight with the intro of the orders.
Also though Im not particularly religious the entire pope speech does make me cringe for reasons. Because very religious people MIGHT watch this, and because its easy to see modern crusaders with their minds stuck in the 1300s to have these outlooks. Im pretty sure some of them are politicians now atm actually and thats even more horrifying.

Everyone's explaining the robes and stuff but I haven't noticed anyone explaining why the Canadian guy is massively homophobic--the Salvation Army is *super* bigoted and for some reason this flies under the radar of most people. They've thrown gay and trans people out of their shelters into freezing weather, resulting in several deaths. It's amazing that they're still allowed to continue on being perceived as a charity when they should be seen as a hate group.
