I'd recommend using a really generous covering of compound on the shaped edge of the slipstrop, maybe try using the smallest point on the slipstrop too as it works well even for larger looking gouges that have narrow points like the 15/2 gouge. My slipstop does get scratched and has grooves in it though, that's normal I think, just because the Pfeil tools are designed to cut wood and lino
Hi, normally before I start each new project, depends on the frequency you use them. You’ll be able to tell when they need sharpening as the cut on the block won’t be as smooth or easy
Hi Sarah, the gold compound is quite tough, you have to rub it on the slipstrop with a little bit of force, it might look a bit flaky but that’s normal, mines always worked well even though the compound is hard
incredibly useful video, and straight to the point!
Thanks for the kind feedback, I appreciate it 😊
Very informative, thanks!
I’m so pleased it was useful, thanks for watching 😊
Love your voiceover!
Thanks so much, I appreciate it :)
Hi Heather. Are you able to sharpen a pfeil 0.5 U gouge please? If so, which bump would you use? Thanks 😊
I always seem to cut up my slipstrop when sharpening the inside of the V gouge.

@@HeatherGoldieGallery thanks for the helpful information.
How often do you sharpen you tools when doing linocut? Thank you!

Yes good video
Thankyou!
I have one of these but I find the compound seems quite hard and won't coat the wooden shapes. Is this normal or has the compound got too old?

@@HeatherGoldieGallery thank you very much. I'm quite new to this art form. 👍🏻
Hi, is the flexcut slipstrop useful for sharpening the 12/1 v gouge?
Hi, yes that’s one of my favourite tools, I use it all the time and sharpen it on the slipstrop
@@HeatherGoldieGallery thank you very much 😊
Nice👍👍👍
Thankyou 😊
