  • Cummins N14 straight pipes sound on our 1994 Kenworth T800 pulling a 53 foot load of old warehouse material. The truck is a 10 speed day cab with no jake brake. I would like to put them on in the future

One of the greatest diesels ever created.

In Japan, this engine was finally adopted for railways in 1988 by Kiha 85.
Prior to that, the railcar engine, DMH17H, retained its old pre-WWII design. This rare in-line 8-cylinder 17-liter NA engine was a nostalgic and tasty engine with a very lovely sound, but it was too heavy, had poor fuel economy, and generated high heat. It had only 180 horsepower, and it was an engine that caused trouble due to heat generation when it was driven at full power for a long time. Since such an engine was standardized after the war, Japanese diesel cars had a terrible difference in performance from trains. The in-line 6-cylinder 15-liter turbo 220-horsepower DMF15HS with expanded cylinders aimed at improving performance, and the 180-degree bank V12 30-liter twin-turbo 500-horsepower DML30HS were also mass-produced, but the power remains the same as the old basic design of the pre-combustion chamber type. As the engine was upgraded, the amount of heat generated increased, and the engine became a series of troubles. Under such circumstances, the appearance of the Kiha 85 equipped with two 350 horsepower N-14R and two JR type C-DMF14HZ was a revolution that pioneered the high performance of Japanese diesel cars. At the end of the 1980s, an old engine designed in the 1950s revolutionized the Japanese diesel car world, which was designed before the war ... Around that time, I realized the difference in engine technology between Japan and the United States before and after World War II. To do. However, both exhaust gases are terrible and fragrant.
Sorry for the strange English left to the translation site.

The Cummins N14 is also the engine of the Class 175 Coradia in Great Britain. Pretty much all UK Diesel Multiple Units (DMU/DEMU/Bi-Mode) are powered by Cummins Trains (a good example being the Class 180 Adelante, Class 185 Desiro and Bombardier Voyagers which are powered by a Cummins QSK19). The DMUs/Bi-Mode Trains that aren’t powered by Cummins Engines are the Hitachi Trains (powered by and MTU V12) and the Class 230 D-Train (powered by a 3.2L TDCI Engine).

We have a ‘94 Kenworth T800 flatbed at my job sitting in the back it’s a old moffett truck boss bought from a material company. Has moffett on it. A ‘98 moffett. We may use it for something. Truck had 2 other motors in it before this one and transmissions. It now has a 3406 mechanical CAT making like 425hp it’s a low horsepower model but damn does it sound good. Smokes all the time. Oh yeah. It had N14 cummins in it before I believe. Good truck not bad shape. It’s a fun one.

    • @zacharybishop6595

@@zacharybishop6595 I left that job late last year. They probably still got that truck sitting in the yard.
I heard I think it had same motor originally, or a N14 Cummins in it.
Actually, I think that truck has even lower horsepower.
      It probably made 380
Making half the horsepower things rebuilt and rigged up.
That was a guess I seen a 425hp model way more power than this truck got. It’s fun to drive and listen to though I remember.
