Labour freebie scandal is an 'absolute salad of rollocks', says James O'Brien | LBC

  • James O'Brien questions what exactly he should be angry about regarding the row around Labour's 'freebies', as he maintains 'they've actually done nothing wrong'.
The PM came under fire after accepting work clothing donations worth £16,200, and multiple pairs of glasses, to the value of £2,485 from prominent Labour donor Lord Alli.
It has also emerged that Ms Rayner has accepted clothing donations worth around £2,200 from Lord Alli. Rachel Reeves further admitted that she had accepted money for clothes from donor Juliet Rosenfeld.
It was announced on Friday that Labour's top team will no longer accept donations to pay for clothing.

The banks own the corporations - the same banks to whom the government is in debt to with a currency that's only backed by its own debt and the continued belief by the masses that it has value. Physically it's utterly worthless.
More to the point the banks want their money back and since we can't even begin to pay it back, let alone it's interest; they expand their corporate controls and fund through them. So tell me - you think of a single politician prepared to utterly destroy the nation as a consequence?

No objection to people donating to MPs or political parties as long as there are no strings attached. No cost to Taxpayers if they get freebies from wealthy people.
These donations to Labour MPs and the Labour Party did not break Parliamentary Rules and the Laws have not been.broken! This is why I always knew that James' disdain for Jeremy Corbyn and his whole faux outrage towards the left of the Labour Party was *always* about him, his cushy establishment media job and his socioeconomic status. He absolutely reeks of Centrist Dad energy.
As it's been said a million times in a million different ways, it's not about the gifts given to the politicians. It's about the gifts given BY the politicians in return.
Nobody does something for nothing. And if you've spent the last 14 years cutting the Tories to ribbons for their 'mates rates' style of government, you have no credibility at all if you're not INCREDIBLY suspicious of what Starmer stands to gain from all these gifts.

Who is benefitting from the Johnson wallpaper right now, which you spent a whole programme bellowing how dreadful that was. Of course now it’s Labour it’s all perfectly innocent.

This reflects American politics. The Conservative party list of "things they did" over 14 years is egregious. Undeniably egregious. And the historical events plague us as a country today, and will do for years to come, HS2 being an example. Right now, any Government that isn't them, is going to be pelted and dredged for everything they say and do. Some of it, like the donor (hardly a) "scandal", sits in the, "all politicians are the same" bucket. The way parliament works has been the same for years, regardless who is in power. Personally, there is a long, long way to go before I'll be saying the current lot are doing a bad job.
In the US, Kamala Harris is being scrutinised over everything she says, and even the slightest misstep is blown up, whereas Trump's obscene behaviour is judged on a curve - "it's just Trump being Trump".
I don't think JO'B is being partisan - he is simply giving balance to the "everyone should be outraged" rhetoric, and reminding us of where these current events sit in balance to things past.

The fact that the conservatives are corrupt does not excuse Labour's corruption.
As for Trump(vile individual that he is) there are no shortage of media outlets who criticize him so when it comes to him you are creating a straw man. Not to mention the fact that Kamala Harris has made it very clear she will carry on giving unconditional support to Israel's genocidal war in Gaza.
JO'B is being partisan because he is playing down Labour corruption by using " what about" tactics.

Just because it's been going on for years or the values involved are much less than their opposition took doesn't mean it should continue.
I can't accept gifts from companies I work with as it would potentially be seen as a conflict of interest.
    Are politicians above that?
This isn't the odd bottle of wine at Christmas, this is meaningful amounts of gifting, and people aren't giving their gifts for nothing.
