I would have ten grand a week (thar I couldn't spend, it's so much) and I would shout from the rooftops how i gave half a million pounds to NHS, schools, care homes, child poverty, etc. And how proud to be doing it again next year and the year after..

    _"It's not a huge sum of money"_ - I guess he's not talking about the 4 million quid from that hedge fund with assets in the arms industry and private healthcare. You know, the one that they delayed taking payment of until the very last minute so that when they declared it, the public wouldn't see it until way after the election. 🤨
    That "donation"? I dunno, maybe he was talking about the ones that most Labour Cabinet Members have received from various supporters of 1sr43li state, including the government itself, with David Lammy accepting over £170k already. Oh, and don't forget the all-expenses-paid trips to those sunny climes the MPs are almost duty-bound to accept.
    There are plenty more -bungs- donations made from more "private donors" now, as the funding from the grass-roots, the membership and the unions have plummeted since Corbyn was ousted.
    It almost makes you wonder who the Labour Party are there to represent because it sure seems to be a world away from who the party was set up to benefit. Yeah, a _"drama in a teacup (sic)"_ for sure.

    Bit of a weak statement about those leaving to avoid tax. Should go further and say if you want to own property or a business in the UK, irrespective of whether you live there, you need to pay some sort of income tax if you are the beneficial owner.

    • @kmrk4055
      @kmrk4055 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not the principal of tax it's the rate of tax that is the issue. One persons idea of 'fair' is another persons idea of high. Anyway what a surprise to see the wealthy owner of green energy generating company talking about green energy.

    • @islandsedition
      @islandsedition หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kmrk4055 I get what you mean, and without getting into the weeds as I don't have sufficient data with me now, the reason I say "some sort of tax" is because if you live abroad and are I entitled to certain benefits as a non dom, such as healthcare, then that principle should also prevent a property owner from negatively impacting the UK economy either through sitting on a property as an asset, or as a landlord or as a business owner. Basically, you should not be able to extract any wealth without tax because that wealth extraction impacts the country. Yes, there's is a discussion to be had about the rate, and that should be against the benefit they derived and any impact they have. Currently, those people he's saying can leave, will retain those assets in the UK from which they can extract wealth, only now they won't be subject to UK tax and likely will pay less tax in a haven. Some will even just move their tax liability abroad and remain in the UK, paying a foreign tax and enjoying most of the benefits of wing in the UK, including using the NHS because they never ask your residential status if they hear a UK accent, see a UK NI number or perhaps ask to see a UK passport.

      Could do what the Spanish do if you move in the same tax year and charge CGT on ANY property sold to move here. Obviously if someone is rich enough they will not need to sell but it may stop some people moving money about to get out of paying anything.

    • @islandsedition
      @islandsedition หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stephenjon3502 tbh I think a better solution would be a cap on annual income and a separate cap on overall wealth. Probably around the 1m and 2m respectively (at current rates). In 1980, the richest 1% of UK earners paid around 11% of the total income tax. This is significantly lower than the approximately 28% they contribute today. Over the decades, the tax burden on the top 1% has increased as income inequality grew and tax policies were adjusted. During that time, the tax system was less progressive compared to recent years, and the share of income tax paid by the wealthiest was a smaller proportion of the total.

You have to accept that there will always be people with drugs-, alcohol, and mental problems, and to avoid crimes, you have to support them. Nobody needs an excessive amount of money. It is sick. On his comments about the proposal that all rented property by EPC C grade or better, it is a great policy but with a couple of huge flaws:
    1. EPC methodology is hopeless, everyone who studies it agrees with that so it needs to be replaced otherwise we will end up with "upgrades" to rental properties that really do not achieve much
    2. A maximum spend of £10k - in my experience of dealing with properties built in the 1950s or earlier, that is usually not enough even in the north of England. But the bigger problem, is that in many properties based on Government's own analysis the work might save tenant £200 per year in heating costs but the landlord would probably need to increase the rent by £75-90 per month (depends on what rate of return landlord is looking at and how much of the rent is taken in agent fees), so the economics simply do not work unless there is some government scheme to reduce the cost
