A sly one too. He showed that it wasn't as good on the dirt as the dirt bikes, or as good on the road as adventure. All that says is that it's somewhere between adv and dual, which I think is a large part of the appeal. On top of that it's cheap to buy and maintain, $1,000+ off the price of the other bikes he compared.

@@jimfixespixelsexactly. I guess there's gonna be haters (especially when going off a spec sheet and not actually even testing the bike - lame). Those of us that own them and ride them know that what the Himmy has is "intangibles" ie "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." They are just FUN even if you can't explain why. As an adventure bike it's "being there" and this bike will take you. I enjoy looking at it too. Way cooler looking motorcycle than the ones compared with. Much more stable and enjoyable on two lane highways than a dual sport such as the DRZ. I could go on. Granted the KTM390 will out perform it on the road but I don't want to spend that much on a small bike. If I want to ride a street bike that out performs it I take my AT (I know I'm lucky I can own more than one bike). How cheap I got my Himmy for just adds to the fun factor (and is why I can afford more than one bike).

As long as you take it for what it is. Not for 1 second have I regretted the purchase. Once you get to know it, you can get some nice lean angle on it. Even on the knobbies. Twisty small country road and flip that thing. Off-road.... I always compare it with a tractor. It'll get you anywhere, as long as you have the time to get there. Running costs is next to nothing. Would I have this as my only bike? No. It's just to slow for me when I travel long distance rides. I would recommend it for an additional bike to just have some fun. Mainly off road in my situation.

Honest review here : I have an Himalayan and I think Yammie did a great job.
The Himalayan is nothing more than a very slow 2 wheeled donkey with a seductive neo-industrial design.
But hey, just like you would expect of a donkey, as long as you feed him good stuff and don’t make him sprint for a long time, it keeps on walking for a long time.
The engine is simple, nothing fancy, just the essentials, but essentials built solid.
This is my first bike ever, and I think it’s a good choice for any beginner rider out there.
    For 3 reasons.
First, it’s cheap for good looks, and that’s quite cool for any youngster that wants to get his hands on his first brand new machine.
The design team actually really well distilled the scrambler retro-steel-vintage inspiration in the overall look, and that works.
Second, IT IS REALLY SLOW. And why is that a good point you would ask : it’s because as a begginer, this bike taught me the basics of riding without putting me in danger.
No speed, no danger = squiddy no deady.
    Last point, but not least.
I rode all over France from North to South in three days and not a single minute I felt pain in my ass, neck, arms or back. The thing is comfy af, and tough af.
I bet none of the Versys / GS / KTM rider out there could say that after riding 9 hours a day for 3 consecutive days.
One thing Yammie didn’t mentioned though : the brakes.
    MAN, they’re awful.
It brakes really bad, and after a few weeks of riding it everyday, it forced me to learn to anticipate everything with extra care.
But, since it doesn’t go fast it’s not that of a problem.
Cheers from France Yammie, and baguette to y’all.

Now obviously grain of salt, because I own a Himalayan and love it, but my impression having watched the whole video is that you may have a bias and you're reaching a little to try and make your point.
Yes, the DRZ is a better, more fun dirt bike- but it's way less comfortable for long rides and has waaay less range.
Yes, the Versys-x is faster, but again less comfortable and in practice it has less range and comes with fewer farkles, and they cost more to add.
No comment on the 390 adventure, it's honestly not a great bike for either real adventures or real dirt riding.
And why no comparison with the Svartpilen 401? That to me is the most obvious bike to bring up, and you've brought it up a lot recently.
In general I think you consider your opinions moreso on what you think is "fun" rather than "practical"- and that's totally fine, especially here in America. But it really should be said- the Himalayan is /incredibly/ practical for what it was designed to do. I own a Himalayan and an XSR700 and if I had to give one up, it would, though grudgingly, be the XSR. The RE is definitely not as thrilling to ride, but it also lets me carry far more, is more comfortable, and is incredibly easy and cheap to maintain.

The Indian version of the Himalayan which I own(the one in my profile pic) (BS3 2016) does not have ABS as well as fuel injection. But the second and the third iterations (BS4 and the latest BS6) both have ABS and EFI along with switchable ABS in the latest version. Sure its no where near its competition with the likes of the KTM or the Kawis or the BMWs, but there is something so lovable about the bike that it has a huge cult here and worldwide.

I do not own a bike but am looking for one for this summer and Your video showed me the different options, which is good and thank you for that. But as for a review on a bike, "kawasaki is better" is not a valid argument to judge the bike. Fuel consumption, build quality, reliability, serviceability etc is.

Actually the only reason we indians like the royal Enfield cause we have so much traffic that its impossible to ride fast without hitting an expressway, so there's no point in buying a fast bike.(if you don't live in mumbai or delhi or so) So, to quench our thirst, we have to find for something else (alternate genre) that is kinda like retro-cruiser type bikes and since Enfield's are cheap af, we go for em'. They are actually surprisingly formidable off-road in a basic way and very easy to ride/noob friendly, which probably also works for those who don't need or want the additional power or technology.
The reason people love them is for the same reason people will tell you that there's nothing else like a Harley, and there's lot of stuff which compares well to the Himalayan on paper (in its actual price range, not at a 20-30%+ premium), but not much that looks anything like it.
Shame they didn't wring a little more power out of them though, if they could cruise at 130 km/h I think that would really differentiate them from some of the competition.

    • @Strideo1
      @Strideo1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

TEC Bike Parts claims they're working on a reliable bolt on performance upgrade for the Himalayan that will reliably add 20% more horsepower. If their claim is true I think it'd be a game changer. While 20% more power won't make the Himalayan "fast" by any means I do think it would put it in a much more comfortable position for road riding.

      @MotoJournoKris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Strideo1 Definitely, it really needs that extra top end, then in comparison to something like the CRF250L there's a clear advantage for your highway cruising even if you trade off on the dirt side of things with weight, etc - although a bit more grunt down low is also always welcome. They certainly aren't highly strung out of the box either.

I have not driven the KTM yet but owned a Versys-X for a year. After upgrading the seat and brakes (pads and lines) it was perfect for me. Light weight, sharp steering on asphalt and quite capable for light off road action. The build quality is very high despite being build in Thailand. It never failed me and never needed oil. The tires that fit the Versys come in many flavors to suit your needs. For long highway trips I changed the front sprocket for even better fuel efficiency.
The Benelli adventure bike is one I hope to review in the near future for comparison.

  • @Magill2571
    @Magill2571 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Adventure riders aren't worried about how many pony's a bike has. They don't even want to go fast. All that they worry about is are they going to get their. The himalayan will average over 60 miles to the gallon and can get around 250 miles to a tank. If it goes over in a spill it is light to pick up as most of the weight is down low and cheap to fix as there is nothing expensive to brake. You don't feel tired after a long ride as the riders position is good both on the seat and standing on the pegs. Get your reviews in order by actually riding what you review and not doing a paper review.

How can you justify doing a review without even riding one.
I've just sold my 2019 Africa Twin Adventure Sport and bought a 2021 Himalayan with luggage and pocketed £5.5k
Yes it's not fast but a brand new bike with 3 year warranty for less than half of what my other was and much more fun, what's not to like.
I was terrified of taking the AT off road due to the height and how much it would cost to repair if I dropped it.
The Himi doesn't even faze me, if it gets dropped so what, it'll probably withstand it anyway and if it doesn't the parts are dirt cheap to replace anyway, unlike anything Honda...
I loved the AT but having £10k sat in the Garage for 6 months of the year didn't interest me
Trying to keep it clean and hold its value etc. With having so much invested in it
I'll be riding the Himi all year round because it just doesn't matter anymore.
3 year warranty and 3 year roadside recovery included too.
    Brilliant package for the money.

It's easy to knock a Himalayan, I understand as I own one, I also own a bmwr1200gs lc which everyone agrees is the benchmark adventure bike, if I want to go touring the Scottish highlands 2 up obviously I'd use the gs if I want to go to Wales and down a few green lanes I'd use the Himalayan... horses for courses as they say.... I'd have to say the acceleration from 50 to 70 is abysmal and makes overtaking bloody dangerous some times, but I always come back from a ride out with a big grin on my face and have found that I'm default to riding the Himalayan rather than the beemer.... there is a English company called Tec bike parts who rumour has it are developing a new cam with a 20% power increase 🤔

I agree that The Himalayan is great for the price but when you ride one ( not clear in the vid if you rode it) it surprises you. It’s a budget bike but far far better to ride than specs suggest and that from someone who owns both a DRZ and Africa Twin.

it's not about specs, personally when i ride a bike i want to feel something, i have ridden a lot of bikes, bikes expensive with better caratheristics (ducati, yamaha, bmw, ktm) but the hima is the only one that stole my heart. do you know when you ride an old car and you listen to the engine, feel the road, without electronic stuff and other improvements and you feel this wonderful connection between you the car and the road that makes you feel one thing with everything? when i ride himalayan i feel that, i can hear the engine, i try not to stress it and treat it with respect, i enjoy the road and the world around me, i don't need to go fast i'm not on a track, i love the way you sit, everytime i jump on it i smile and i can really feel the freedom in me, and the last thing: it's ridiculously beautiful and stylish (when i stop at the traffic lights 6 times on 10 someone look at me and ask about my bike). try not to focus only on the specs there is much more to analyze when you talk about a bike.

You have got to work on your history lessons. You are way off. I’ve never ridden a R.E. but am familiar with the British history of the company and how it ended up in India. Hard to take you seriously about better(more sensible )options from a man who has a Ducati Scrambler.

WHY DO YOU HAVE AN OPINION WITHOUT EVEN A SINGLE SECOND OF FOOTAGE OF YOU RIDING IT?
SOUNDS A BIT LIKE TALKING ABOUT HOW WAGYU TASTES LIKE WITHOUT EVEN TASTING IT DON'T IT?

I rode this bike in actual Himalayan roads and i absolutely loved it
Himalayan's weight is an asset not a liability. You would absolutely love it
My friend rode his KTM Duke with me and sold it in 2 months I still have the Himalayan.

I’d rather see someone buy a Himalayan and use it because that’s what they could afford, than see those guys who buy loaded out BMW and Ducatis and dressing like they’re going on a six month expedition…just to go up to the local grocery store five minutes away.

yamie is like the nerd who speaks only according to the specs, believe me Himalayan truly is a superb machine it's made for roads and also for no roads with a engine dedicated to go the distance except the fact of some quality issues this bike is a good machine, you feel something different when you rev this snail like engine. My brother has this bike in which he rode more than 50000 km with just some minor issues in the cone set .

For a bike like this, a lot of its appeal is how it makes you feel. I rode one across Gujarat to the Rann of Kutch and found it entirely pleasant. It's a great travel bike, but one that a busa boy might not really appreciate because of its peak power stats etc. I liked the way the power delivery was really steady, and off road that torque and low centre of gravity makes it really easy to control for a relative newb. Even those rugged looks are evocative and has way more personality than all plastic and angles of most others. Alternately I rode the Dominar 400, which is basically a cheaper KTM 390 Adventure (same engine) by the same parent company for a similar trip a few months before and found it quite a stressful bike to manage day to day. Too jumpy, cramped leg triangle...had the fun qualities of a sports bike, but just not great to travel with. I sat on the 390 Adventure the other day and it made me feel...nothing. My logical brain was thinking "this is good value", and I may even end up buying one...but the Enfield has soul. As a beginner bike, even with the undoubted value proposition of the KTM, I wouldn't rule out trying one.

This video is filled with wrong information, the Himalayan doesn't share any parts with the other Royal Enfield, so it wasn't designed using left over parts. The early 2016 models were only carburetted, in 2017 it was available with fuel injection only in India too due to BS4 norms. Dual Channel ABS has been offered as standard since 2018 and new version comes with switchable abs and tripper navigation. And Interceptor 650 and meteor 350 is the newest Royal Enfield not the Himalayan. @yammienoob needs to do better research before passing reviews.
