    The shop did exceptional work. Converting a 1969 corvette with modern day technology is not easy. It is like buying a new corvette. However, there is a downside. As things begin to go wrong you will have a near impossible task finding someone with similar knowledge to work on your car.

      I'm guessing 350,000.00. But there are some serious breakthroughs that were dealt with that are no doubt going to be part of future kits/ installations and that no doubt had some factor in cost savings to the customer..The tenacity that made this build possible was actually beginning to make me ill.the mock up and fab of the trans tunnel was more than I could endure. I had a highly dysfunctional relationship with a 69 roadster. Triple black, Hooker pipes T/A radials on cragers..The top always leaked..And it rode like a worn out pickup truck..No amount of money ever solved those two ultimate deal enders.

      A 6 speed manual from Silver State with everything is about $8-9k Car Effex here in New Jersey charged me $3k to install it.
      Motor depends on what you want in it, brand new crate motor? $30-40k depending on what you want and HOW MUCH POWA BABY!
      Figure shop time at $120-140 per hour.
      Wheels and tires 🛞 between $2,000-7,000 depending what you want.
      Brakes $3-4k plus install at $2-3k
      So I would say under a $100k if you’re putting in a new crate motor.
      $350,000 and your doing a new car that is going to be a body off restoration, rotisserie done body with a new chassis and everything you can think of.
      So it depends on what you want to do restore, modify or go pro touring/show car.
      If you’re just driving it and want to do the work yourself, just take it piece by piece and get it done.

    I just found this series and what an excellent one it is. I'm looking into doing something similar for my wife's next car. She has always wanted an '80 - '83 Corvette. If I can find a decent-shape body for a good enough price, I'm pondering a very similar restomod, but swapping the T56 for maybe the 6L80 automatic so it's reliable and easy to drive.
    I fully understand the limitations of my question, but is there a way to have a ballpark estimate for what I should budget on the mods/labor?

    • @V8TV

    Hello I have a 1979 Corvette L82 and I like to put a LS7 in my car?
    Will that work because right now.
    Its automatic with transmission?
    So I like add more power so if you can please let me know will the LS7 work?
    Thanks.

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Daphne, the LS7 is a slightly different animal when it comes to LS engines, mainly because they were designed for a "dry sump" oil pan system, meaning they require an external oil tank, lines, and pump. This occupies much more space than the LS3 or other "wet sump" LS engines. And LS7 can be converted to a wet sump system, but that is an extra step in the process. It may be easier to make similar power using a modified LS3 platform to start with. The LS7 may bolt to your automatic transmission, however, we'd recommend a more modern electronically controlled automatic to handle the power of the LS7 and provide easier tuning and calibration of the transmission. This might require additional fitment modifications to the tunnel to install. These are general answers, we hope they help you with a bit of context. You can reach us at www.v8speedshop.com/contact and we'd be happy to discuss your ideas further. Thanks for the question!

    • @jazamora7521
      @jazamora7521 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention that factory ls7 needs heads replaced asap, you're better off with a sleeved block and have it built to whatever cubes you'd like with wet sump crank and better heads.

    When is it appropriate to use a K&N, (or any other brand), filter? I had an LS3 and now have an LSA and haven't used a K&N on either of those. What's the advantage?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great question. We used the K&N in this case because they offer a huge variety of shapes / styles of filters, and their catalog provides dimensions for all. This way we can design a custom air intake and pick a filter to fit. That and we know the flow characteristics are better than a stock paper filter, and they last forever.

    • @GalaxyStranger01
      @GalaxyStranger01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@V8TV
      Thanks for the answer!
      One more quick question - you see all these people immediately slapping a custom intake on their stock Camaros - you'd have to tune it to get any benefit from it, right? And even then you're not going to notice a difference unless you start making drastic modifications? And because it flows better does it let more dirty air into the system?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That depends. There are some air intake systems that don't require a full re-tune, as the stock ECM can compensate a bit for slight changes in airflow. More drastic mods do require revising the tune for optimal performance. Higher airflow does not necessarily mean less filtration. Hope this helps!

    Wants to keep it original, doesn't want it original, want's it original, doesn't want it original. I don't get it. Either it is, or it isn't. Doing whatever you want to your own car is great but it just seems inconsistent in this case. My L-71 1969 that I've owned for 52 years still runs great with almost 180,000 miles. It goes like hell and stops safely. With the GM HEI, Hooker Sidepipes and a few other mods, it runs better than factory. But, I have changed my car to suit my own prefs and never have worried about "original" which seems to be the big thing these days. Hopefully the owner will enjoy his car for many years to come. I plan to do the same.

    Nice job on the car but I just don’t like the look of the over sized wheels on these cars.

      Ohh. And would a crate 350v8 be enough for the tremec 6 speed?
      Could I put a tremec 6 on my current engine?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The seats are the stock ones that came with the 1969 Corvette. It is possible to install a 6-speed behind a small block Chevy engine.

    anybody gotta clue what this would cost, 15k i figure

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the parts... the driveline and fuel system put you in the $15k range alone.

    • @Hugeroost
      @Hugeroost 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang, so this guy prolly dropped 25k to have this done then, its badass no doubt. To some people thats chump change though, and even then he's way under what it would take for a newer car to touch it. I'd go to gmperformance and buy that lsx 454, for 20k, insane power, more less plug and play. I'd have that tranny built up, and that package would hang w anything pretty much. Have you guys dropped any of those LSX's, that's really a helluva deal...Roost

    • @chisel83
      @chisel83 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brake package and wheels would be 5k just in parts. If I had to guess I'd say 40k would be a good start.

      @@chisel83 well if you have it to burn I guess. I drove one of these that was for sale a couple years ago their badass no doubt. At the end of the day its an old car, feels old, drives old. I'd rather have a new one but I understand the love, that c8 i'd rather have it and it'd spank this old one except MAYBE on the highway and i'm not sure even there the old one would win. Fine ass car though

    Sometimes I just don't get it. Wanting the car to look stock with the newer radio yet not caring that it doesn't look stock with the Dakota gauges? Why not be consistent about everything? The motor, brakes, wheels etc. are all NOT STOCK and not STOCK LOOKING. There is nothing stock at all about this car so it just puzzles me but it's not my car so I don't care. It's just weird to think about how other people "think". When in truth, all cars are "stock" for about 15 minutes until you drive them off the lot. Then they become used cars with original equipment. A water pump needs replacing, and the car is no longer original and never will be again. After some years go by, the owner wants to make the car original, but it can't be done. Even if you hand paint factory codes on the rear end housing and try to duplicate what the factory did, it's NOT original. So, why not be honest and if you own the car, make the car exactly the way you want it and as comfortable and safe to drive as possible and who cares how "stock" it looks? I realize I'm alone in my thinking but oh well...
