    Every time I watch a video like this it really gets me in the mood to start doing some fitness training....(for about 5 min) Then I remember how lazy I am and go back to just riding my bike as often as I can lol

    I am a rider who is 61 and completely agree with you. I live in the desert and ride both a CRF450 and a YZ450f out in the boonies and I realize i need to workout so I can withstand a crash, which I can now after buying a squat rack with 300 lbs of weight. When you get older you lose that boyish charm. Your ear hair grows ridiculously fast. Your eyebrows are reaching for your ears. And your legs become skinny like bread sticks. Yes, as you say in your excellent video, your cardio goes downhill fast if you even think of not working out every week. We are all lucky to have the lust for dirtbike riding because Hell, the alternative is to become some fat fuck on a golf course. When you get older you have to try much harder to stay in the game because entropy is not your friend. I love your video. It is amazing to hear somebody out there repeat what's going through my head, which is "Don't rest. Get up and ride." Thank you. Thank you.

      I'm 63 and started doing road racing track days on my suzuki gsxr 600. Lots of fun, but the faster I started getting the more I realized the risk was outweighing the reward. I didn't like the idea of crashing at 160 mph. Sold everything. Now I want a dirtbike. All the road race guys say don't do it. It's more dangerous than road racing. BS I say. I lost 10 lbs road racing. Dirt riding is going to be even more physical. I can't stand not having toys to play with. My biggest problem is deciding what type and size of dirtbike.

    Great video. I'm 45 and training for a hardcore enduro at the moment. And it's not easy but if you only do a little bit you only get little results. I use a treadmill (6kph @ 22 degree incline - 20 mins), weight training (squats/dips/pull ups most important) several times per week and tractor tyre dragging once a week for that high intensity training. And aim for 10hrs/month on the bike. No crap food and only the odd mid strength beer for booze as I don't have time
    for hangovers! Riding improving and feeling great!

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      exactly red! doesn't take much to make a huge difference, i just try and ride twice a week then a short run here and there on the spare days.... so much fitter with just that than the average dude in his or her mid 50s....

      CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS thanks. I asked in one of the MX threads and some MX health coach came on and asked for my email to send me info. Then sent me some type of intake form asking for health insurance number and all. So I shut that down before it even started. This was in the US. Anyways, greatly appreciated!

    I get WAY more exercise on my bike then when I do my regular exercise routine. I have soo much fun riding my bike that I forget my heart rate gets up into the 180's and don't even realize it. I have to stop before my heart explodes. Great job on this Vid.

      same here christian, i'm way more shagged at the end of a hard hill climb than running up hills with interval training. having fun makes a big difference....

  • @helavatar

    Good advice. Way better than I got from a trainer. When I was in recovery with my wrist I asked if the therapist knows of a trainer who might help me to put together a training routine. I got a name and when approached the said trainer I had my doubts and sure enough he was into building muscle and had no idea how to build cardio for endurance race. So just took up cycling, running and simple balance exercises from the materials given to me from recovery sessions. But there were still a few things missing and this video gave me a few ideas what to add.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's not good when a trainer has just one approach... it's not fair for the client who have different needs and lifestyles!

  • @WyattPotter
    @WyattPotter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm 15 and I was practicing a stand up and my left hand slipped off the bars while I was going up and my front wheel turned to the right and slammed back down. I went over my handle bars and hit the ground chest and right shoulder first. I then proceeded to slide on dirt filled with tiny sharp rocks, and of course I thought this one time I could get away with not wearing my chest rig! I came away with tiny scrapes and shock of how this could have been alot worse. Take his advice to heart. I bench 15+ my body weight and I can military press 100 on the good days. Stay safe out there people.

      That's what plenty of effort and dedication does for you eh? :-) I wish I had just a bit of that mindset - but funny thing is, when I had to fight off a bout of cancer there was no question about doing the hard yards. I was trying to keep that same attitude over the last year in order to get at least some of degree of strength/fitness, and I did, but it's sooo easy to slip back into slacker mode.

      @crosstrainingenduro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      nothing like the big C to shake things up glenn... and glad you are still around! i just do the bare minimum for my age but have done more since chatting with gally. and i might really ramp it up soon as i'm toying with the idea of just maybe doing an extreme enduro!

    Really interesting advices. Sadly even if I'm young, I have to spend too much time sat on the chair studying, so that my phisical condition isn't as good as it should be for a 20 year-old guy. Hope I'll be able to follow Stephen's advices ASAP, but I'd say that having a correct and balanced diet is as important as doing fitness exercises.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure you were at pacific park on the weekend and you were kind enough to let me ride your beta 480 thumper? If so, I would like to extend my thanks. Unfortunately for me, I now know how badly my bike is set up. I would love it if you would do a video on how to set up regular dirt bikes for short people. I understand the irony since you are six foot plus! I've been watching your videos and considering trading in for a beta. Now after riding yours, I'm convinced I need one. The x trainer will hopefully be short enough for me as you saw when I dismounted your bike, the seat was up around my chest lol. Thanks to you, I'm now getting more into the hill climbs and rocky mountain technical stuff and am loving it. I hope your team member that had the stack on the weekend is on the mend and embarrassingly, if it wasn't you, then thanks to the random guy out there that let me ride his Beta.

      Big Dan beta makes a 2" lowering kit for all of their models, so just another reason to get one. I got a 300rr race edition last year (my wife surprised me with it- gotta give her credit) and you will not be disappointed in any beta you get. If it is the height that pushes you to the xtrainer, remember the lowering kit option and you can get whichever chassis/engine you desire without settling for the defined xtrainer

    Well yes, you could do interval training, if you got less time for training a week. You would get the same reason back in one short traning session as you would usually have in three training sessions a week. But this method requires an exprerienced sports trainer, if you are not 100 % sure what you are doing. Because if you don't know, you could more destroy your body with this, than doing goods to youreself.
