It was a tough but rewarding climb! We hope you enjoy the video. We had a blast participating in the Mother’s Day climb earlier this month. Climbing permits can be found online at recreation.gov. Let us know if you have any other questions

Thanks so much, Delnora! We try to get out even when the weathers rough, but can be hard sometimes to find that motivation 😅

My knees were aching watching this, but such a beautiful view from the summit! Also loved Tim's catwalk haha.

Our legs definitely ached after this hike 😅 It hurt for a few days. By the last couple of miles we thought our legs were going to fall off. Hahaha Tim’s catwalk was my favorite and he was a trooper for doing it -Helen

I just keep thinking of all those famous images of the mountain exploding. Especially when you're at the edge - th-cam.com/video/bjD8eFyz6l4/w-d-xo.html. It's so calm and peaceful now. It would really be something to see it in person

It would quite the experience!! The cornices (overhanging snow) on the crater were massive and we definitely stayed far from the edge. It was very peaceful and calm when we were hiking that day. Hardly any wind, a bit eerie to say the least. You should come visit! July to early Sept is best to catch the weather windows at Mount St Helens.

Was it pretty easy to navigate to the top and back down? Especially as snow melts, avalanches, and white out conditions?

Glad you’re considering this! It can be easy to lose your route in the winter if there is snow, so we recommend having a couple gps options with you (Gaia or All Trails app, Garmin inReach, paper map and compass as back up). We can share our route if you’re interested. Feel free to email us at helenandtimtravel@gmail.com. It’s a busy trail year round even with permits so you will never be truly alone. You can check the northwest avalanche centers reports when they are in operation for the season, usually between Nov to April, so anything outside of that will be self judgement on risks. We would recommend going when there is clear weather windows on both sides of the day you’re going. We definitely chanced it with the iffy weather window and there was some avy activity and white outs that made us nervous. But we had a mix of sun so we felt thankful 😅☀️
Also if you’re going when there is snow melt, start early before sunrise so you don’t have to deal with soft snow. Recommend bringing crampons, microspikes, snowshoes, and trekking poles if you go when there is snow. Though you may not need them, it was nice to have them just in case. Hope that helps!
